  1. I have some sympathy for folks who show up because they are living paycheck to paycheck and don't get paid time off. Speaking of which, PTO should be required from here on out. How is this not a bigger discussion, I don't know.
  2. I'm a couple of miles north of 5 Points and my neighborhood was unscathed. I'm fairly certain that just as the 1998 tornado accelerated redevelopment and gentrification in East Nashville, this 2020 tornado will do the same to North Nashville. Hearing stories of vultures developers already out in the neighborhoods trying buy homes.
  3. Yep. This is a well understood trend in gentrifying neighborhoods. These neighborhoods also often experience a loss of units (and population) due to larger homes that had been converted in several apartments being converted back to single family and sold for big $$$. This was happening a lot when I lived in 12 S c. 2006-7.
  4. I have an air travel related question which is slightly OT. Please delete this post if inappropriate. Over the past 3 years I have not had a single trip that did not experience a flight delay or cancellation. Is that the new norm for air travel? Or do I have particularly bad luck?
  5. I can't speak to all the items, but when inflation is added in the lb of butter was more expensive then than today (I assumed the prices were for 1935). In fact food as a percentage of total spending has been steadily declining for decades.
  6. Yes. There have been several expansions of the USD since 196X. That being said, there are still several highly developed parts of town which are not in the USD (Hermitage, Bellevue, Rivergate).
  7. This was tried with The Amp. It was killed by the state.
  8. Hehe. I'm the exact opposite. The idea of riding with a random person in their vehicle makes me uncomfortable. With a taxi you're getting a professional (at least in theory).
  9. I think I read somewhere that this is being planned for this year or next. The kinda had too given that when they tried to go small a few year earlier with The Amp, it got shut down at the State level.
  10. This is pretty confusing. First they say office condos, but later use the term 'residents'. Is there a residential component, or would replacing 'residents' with 'occupants' or 'tenants' be appropriate?
  11. By my count, this will be #5 this decade. WeGo, Chamber, Planning, MPO and Cooper. Just pick one and do something (preferably fixed guideway transit operating at short intervals in dedicated ROW).
  12. Because by state law Metro cannot take in more money after a reassessment than it did before. That's why after nearly every reassessment in Metro's history, Council and the Mayor have adjusted the property tax rate upward. However, because of all the recent growth this was not done in 2017. I assume the Barry & Briley admins thought they could skate by until their second terms before raising the property tax rate. That turned out to not work so well, and the city is broke as a result. Oh yeah, and a bunch of big commercial owners challenged their assessments, and got their tax payments lowered as a result.
  13. Tried that with the AMP and it got killed. Also, as I have said time and time again, 840N is dead. It ain't happening. We need high speed, high capacity transit with frequent service operating in dedicated ROW. Are illegal at the state level. Great idea. We should implement it a soon as possible.
  14. The thing is, cancelling the bridge won't save Metro any $$. They've already reallocated the $18M to other projects.
  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altamont_Free_Concert
  16. I thought TN didn't require Drivers Ed. If that is the case, we should be working toward making it required to get a DL.
