  1. Correct. Yes. And we've already plowed that ground here many times. There are no surprises here.
  2. Ok, right, and I understand the point you're making. It's just that I didn't read/interpret the article the way you did. I think the Pilot saw the # of clicks/readers the prior stories garnered, so they thought they'd squeeze some more juice out of what was really always kind of a non-story. Remeber the proposed development for the 3rd anchor space? That was right after the prior owner acquired the property for nearly 178 million bucks! Now it's all worth 20M. Oh, the irony. These massive "announcements" are usually highly aspirational and almost always lack backing, financing, approvals, etc. This one is no different. And this will not be the last story on the matter from the Pilot. As I said some months ago, this thing is gonna take tiiiiime to complete. A decade wouldn't surprise me. 50/50ish that it's longer than that. Depending on the scope and size. Some of us will likely grow old before any very large to massive project is completed here. But it is always an aspirational speech. If the Mayor can't get a concrete win yesterday or today, he will project success into the future.
  3. What? They are doing no such thing lol. These things ALWAYS TAKE FOREVER...especially projects of this size and scope ...and especially in HR! I disagree.

  5. Yes, "carnage." LOL Oh, the brutality and inhumanity of it all!!!! : . Sorry lol. Anyway, good to know it's not personal. And at least we can't hear the barking every time someone reflexively posts about it. 3 am barking drives me mad. Although some say his dogs were salivating, so we couldn't hear that anyway I don't think .
  6. kind of you to apologize to our resident, beloved youngster, but need I remind you that "the quoted poster" has a name: @ONCE1stBlvd query: were you in Norfolk in the 50's and 60's, and if so, did you participate in the carnage? all of this seems personal for you.
  7. do not fret, my friend, for no one is going to get banned for posting about the history of Norfolk in a history of Norfolk thread. history is history. and in this case it's also herstory. sorry, bad joke. but truth is truth. and you, @ONCE1stBlvd ,speak the truth here. everyone is free to focus on his/her/their own particular interests re: the history of Norfolk.
  8. I forgot the people movers. The moving walkways are definitely on for 2025! OK, so yes. The check-in and TSA are definitely part and parcel of the Terminal project. You are correct. They also happen to be the most customer-facing/customer-serving projects. Projects that the customers would notice, immediately and favorably so. Accordingly, I think that ORF delayed this project for strategic reasonsd. Or for design, as you stated. However, I wonder if it's more than just design time ib/c the previous press reports included full renders and indicated that the new terminal was coming immediately...which would lead one to surmise that design was nearly finished. Hmm. Anyway, I think ORF prioritized these various projects based on $$$ and immediate NEED...plus by mission critical designation and perhaps by highest strategic or competitive advantage--for growth. I think the Concourse A/International Gate and FIS (US Customs and Border Federal Inspection Station) were prioritized b/c RIC has just opened their new FIS. RIC doesn't have any international flights yet, however. YET. Perhaps ORF is trying keep up or even out-pace RIC on the international routes front. The hotel is an amenity that is long-overdue and one which would make ORF more attractive to both existing and NEW passengers...and existing and NEW airlines. As for mission critical, the runway is at the end of its functional life, so it makes sense to move on that item with all due speed and alacrity.
  9. very true. everyone wants a seat at the table...and a bag full of cash.
  10. In perusing the "new" transformORF.com site, it would appear that project value has increased from 700M to 850M! Also, the pretty jewelry and front and center/customer-focused upgrades--the new glass departures terminal originally scheduled to break ground this Spring and open in 2025/2026--has been given an indefinite or "future" designation re: timing. Hmm. Looks like they are prioritizing the Hotel, the runway refurbishment, the new international arrivals facility, a newly expanded and upgraded Concourse A, etc. The new departures facility with consolodated TSA checkpoint, streamlined and consolodated check-in, expanded and consolodated baggage area, etc., ...plus the new rental facility...are all still planned, but are now listed as TBA.

  12. Originally, the garages along Freemason were ornamented. See photo from 2007. Then somewhere between 2007 and 2012, the ornamentation started failing/falling off, so they eventually removed all of it....leaving the hulking, ugly black areas.
  13. It is abundantly clear who's being undemocratic here. And it's not Petersburg City Council. The Unite Here folks are merely acting in their own self-interest...under the guise of defending democracy on behalf of the fair citizens of Petersburg. They're not fooling anyone.

  16. All I was trying to say was that Cordish is probably out of the running now. I was not speaking to the viability of a casino here. Simply put, I'm not sure Cordish would want to develop two major casinos within an hour plus of each other.
  17. I was referring to Cordish's aspirations. Listen, you do you but I am no apologist for the buffoons at City Hall. This is an unmitigated embarrassment to Norfolk-- beyond our imagination-- and beyond anyone's ability to credibly deny the same. THIS is what could have been. HERE. THESE are the things that Norfolk and Pishko screwed up, royally. And you know how they messed it up. And I don't need to cite chapter and verse.

This likely kills any aspirations locally.... 1.4 BILLION DOLLAR CASINO MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT over 15 years.
  20. They must be talking bout $$$$. Debt capacity. Bond rating, etc.
  21. They have this vid along with the pics Vdogg put up. I'm not sure why b/c this may be the older design . This vid may not be accurate.
  22. All those maps were a bit much... tedious, difficult to look at / comprehend. Even I lost patience. Just think about what the average person's going to do. If extremely interested parties lose patience just think about how the average Joe is going to react.
  23. Okay, for our few remaining resident commercial real estate experts....and everyone else of course. So my question is, if you will remember in the run up to the development of the outlet mall, there was breathless reportage in local media indicating that property owners and the cities of Norfolk and VB, as well as I'm assuming the airport authority, were fielding multiple calls weekly from developers from all over the place re: development/redevelopment opportunities near the airport, proximate to the new outlet mall, etc. Additionally, we were told that there would be a massive retail/entertainment restaurant development of over 250,000 ft coming from Simon and SL Nusbaum. CEO of Simon made at least one speech... at the Grand opening no less, I believe, wherein he absolutely gushed over the Norfolk Market and his excitement for possible future expansion of the outlets plus the aforesaid partnership with SLN on the major outparcel at the entrance that used to be part and parcel of Lake Wright golf course. However, as you also may know, just about as soon as the outlets opened, Simon dropped the plans for expansion and also cut ties with SLN re: their partnership on the retail/entertainment/restaurant development project. Without comment if I recall. I realize that the economy had shifted somewhat in the months leading up to the Mall's opening relative further weakening in bricks and mortar retail.... even in the outlet space/world, but does anyone else find it strange that it "all" collapsed so quickly? And still nothing. Years later!? Indeed, when you drive through the mall (which I did today...and it looks like a ghost town when you come in off of Northampton ...plus there's trash everywhere) you are immediately struck by those giant, aging black and white signs promoting the aforementioned development. while weeds grow tall and nothing....nothing has been developed besides a tiny strip mall, a hotel, a Chick fil-a and Mission BBQ. To my knowledge none of those other purported (in the media) multiple private property owners, City/ public lands and / or airport authority lands have been touched. Why were the news reports so wrong? What was all the fuss about? I digress, but it's sort of reminds me of what Chuck Rigney said recently about the alleged myriad redevelopment inquiries at the oceanfront. Well, call cynical or crazy, but I will believe all of that when I see it!! Can someone explain why people in power continually blow so much smoke up our arses? All smoke, rarely fire.
