  1. In the future, we will be banned from bringing literally anything on an airplane. This picture is prescient
  2. It needs it, for sure. The upside is the total lack of traffic makes getting around easy. That said, there are numerous roads that aren't even PAVED let alone have sidewalks.
  3. "That's it?" is the reaction I get as well. But most of these people live in metros with either: a) Urban development boundaries enforced by laws b) Development boundaries enforced by natural landscape c) 4+ million populations that don't get to that number by counting half the state
  4. As a Southern California native ... careful what you say about Del Taco ...
  5. It's an age old argument. I like it, some don't. If you like it, Uber sucks. That said, Uber sucks for a whole world of reasons, with tipping being minor by comparison
  6. Hands down ride share is the way to go now. And for what its worth, just about every time I ride with a driver that does both Lyft and Uber, they universally praise Lyft over Uber for driver treatment. I'm pretty much exclusively Lyft now. Added bonus: you can easily tip within the app. With Uber, you must bring cash and if not, you have no means of tipping. It's terrible.
  7. Driving through downtown on I-4 and over 50 is pretty exciting. So great to see all this steel and concrete rising out of the earth. Long overdue and a great improvement for the area.
  8. Unlikely to ever happen but I support this.
  9. Yes, and I've been told that is the motivation.
  10. I do a lot of business with Hard Rock. I was not happy to see them leaving Orlando.
  11. I'm as bullish on autonomous vehicles as the next guy, but we are not already there. Autonomous vehicles are only just now beginning to be tested in the snow, for example. Now, don't get me wrong, people are ALSO terrible at driving in the snow. But until computers are near perfect at it, people won't entrust their lives to one.
  12. Wonder if/when we can see some minor improvements to transit out here. A Plant St. express bus that connects neighborhoods and downtowns along Plant/Oakland Ave would be great, but I'm not sure the demand warrants it yet. And go out to Oakland the city as well. Oakland-Winter Garden-Ocoee on a 20-minute or 30-minute loop during business hours would be cool. But again, not sure if demand is there. Maybe just one bus to begin with. Of course remember that Plant and Oakland will be more like one road if the master plan is implemented:
  13. I'm afraid I disagree adamantly and without hesitation. Traffic accidents cause a tremendous source of tragedy and healthcare cost in the United States. Humans are terrible drivers. All of us. You, me, truck drivers, everyone. We are biologically ill equipped for piloting vehicles. We need computer assistance. The leading cause of death for basically everyone under the age of 45 and not an infant is accidental injury. It absolutely dwarfs all other causes. See here: Ok, so that's accidental injury. Let's look at what those accidents were: Notice a pattern here? We suck at driving. Computers are already better at it in some circumstances, and it's just a matter of time before they beat us in all situations. We're not there yet, but it is coming, and I look forward to it. Personally I have lost 4 people in my life to 4 separate car accidents. I watched my friends dad bleed to death on the side of the road because he over-corrected. This is an enormous source of tragedy. Please do not downplay it. Edit: fixed pictures
  14. Likely a long exposure due to low light level.
  15. It can and will happen. Technology wipes out millions of jobs every generation. It's inevitable. You can't stop it. The trick is building systems (at the government level or otherwise) to help transition these people into other jobs. We are all better for it. The luxury we live in today is owed to it.
  16. Electric cars + auto pilot is going to change our entire conversation on this. Highly efficient autonomous vehicles could completely re-imagine transit. Imagine if transit picked you up at your door, and as soon as it dropped you off at your destination it picks up someone else. 24/7, point-to-point continuous transit that scales up and down automatically during rising demand and fall. It will change the world.
  17. Are you arguing that it's not low brow entertainment? I mean. Don't get me wrong. I like all kinds of low brow stuff. I have said repeatedly that I'm unaplogetically low class. But let's be real here. It's soap operas for men. Nothing wrong with it. But it is what it is.
  18. I promised myself that if I ever signed up for Blue Apron I had reached full yuppie privilege level and it was time to cut back on podcasts. Still resisting ...
  19. Yeah the 429->TP->408 route is pretty smooth most of the time. Except last week when the 429 caught on fire for some reason.
  20. Welcome to downtown! Here is a gray Pizza Hut that sells pet food
  21. Sees massive post. Skims it. Sees the word Soros. Cries. Closes window.
  22. Nabbed one more, ha! Spenser and I will have this whole forum living in Winter Garden before the decade is out.
  23. Winter Garden and the areas west definitely get bonus points for having slight elevation changes. Not mountains. Not even really hills. ... Slopes? I love them.
