  1. Like DMann said the banner has been there for a long time, but the letters on the construction office door (across Tryon from the project) has had the "Intercontinental Hotel" lettering removed. This was the tower I was most looking forward to seeing built. I do hope this project comes back to life, but I could see an Intercontinental as part of the LU project possibly if they still have an interest in CLT in the future.
  2. I noticed dirt moving at the corner of Trade and Caldwell across from the Hyatt House Hotel.
  3. Looks very nice. I hope the windows for Morton's are as inviting as the rendering appears. It is so bland and uninviting as it is now.
  4. Does anyone know what this work is about at the Carillon Tower entrance?
  5. Agreed. Also wish the building had been set back toward College Street (much like Truist). Such a great building but it is easily lost amongst the other towers. If it were anywhere else in the skyline, away from other buildings, it would look more amazing. Imagine the impact this building would make in other cities, yet here it is invisible from certain angles when looking at the skyline.
  6. Interesting info - thanks for posting. Both metros very similar in office size, though RDU in land mass is much bigger the Mecklenburg. Wake County alone is more than 30% larger. I wonder how much difference if any of the counties surrounding Mecklenburg were added (York, Cabarrus)? Also interesting to see how much office space is more urban in Mecklenburg vs. more suburban in RDU.
  7. NCPA June 16, 2022 The New Mexico Attorney General announced a $13.7 million settlement with Centene Corp. The settlement was a result of the state attorney general’s investigation of Centene’s subsidiaries’ pharmacy benefits pricing and reporting provided to the New Mexico Medicaid program. The investigation had focused on concerns that Centene was layering fees and not passing on retail discounts to New Mexico’s Medicaid program.
  8. I walked by today and sadly see that the demolition process has begun. Such a shame this building is not being saved. The only positive is there will be more housing units for uptown and especially N Tryon. I would be happy with residential projects built on every vacant lot uptown - regardless of height. More housing = more people on the sidewalks = more retail, I hope.
  9. I am hoping for a large residential component and/or hotel rooms to support the potential retail. The Duke building conversion to residential will also benefit the area.
  10. Uptown was bustling today - great to see so many out walking and enjoying the weather. A few eyesores exist, however. The empty and often abused paper boxes look awful and need to be removed. The park at the Square needs a good cleaning and a working fountain again. The strip of ground between the street and sidewalk along Church Street between 5th and 6th Street needs infill dirt and grass. If anyone knows who is responsible for these issues could you please pass them along.
  11. From this weekend - soon there will be leaves.
  12. Agreed. We need more condo ownership in SouthEnd and Uptown. People are not that invested in the community if they can rent and then be gone in a year. Of course we always need plenty of rental units - just wish more condo towers would be built as well.
  13. Check out the Raleigh Wiki Highrise page. "57 completed high-rise buildings" "14 taller than 250 feet" "22 taller than 200 feet"
  14. I don't think this building is listed as a proposed project on WIKI yet.
  15. And we think having NC after Charlotte is so bad, imagine how Frankfurt and Madrid residents must feel after this statement in the business journal. At CLT, American expects to offer daily flights to Dublin; Rome; Frankfurt, Germany; London; Madrid, Spain; and Munich. It could be worse - Charlotte, United States of America, or Charlotte, NC, United States of America.
  16. Looks to be the 2 car trains we currently have now. Not sure the freeway will go away soon. The state leaders keeps the DOT budget so tight that they will never spend the money to remove 277. I like the John Belk in this area as it is rarely congested but I hate the merge with 77/Wilkinson and we all know most of the ramps are too short and congested. I think it has been proposed to redesign some of those. This thing was built by removing space for development. While that may have been a mistake I do not see that removing it anytime soon would be wise given all the space available for development downtown. I do like the idea of selling air-rights to develop above it. I like the benefit of having freeway access directly to the center city. I think other cities (even some in Raleigh) would love to have direct interstate access downtown.
  17. There is still some type of uptown ambassadors program (in orange shirts and grey slacks). Not sure they carry radios or not. I do see them on occasion., however. Also, the police presence uptown is not very good - never see any on foot. There are some on bikes but they usually ride together in groups of 2, 3 or 4 and sometime congregate together at Trade and Tryon. If the large group of off road motorcycles and 4- wheelers of bikes that love to block traffic uptown pass by they just ignore them. Gone are the days of old when they were posted on foot at Square all day. I am sure the budget does not allow for that anymore.
  18. A-terminal needs its own drop/off check-in, etc when complete. I hope there was planning for enough room to do this. If not that will be a shame. Many airports have multiple drop-off and check-in points even if all serviced by the same road. I love the expansion of lanes at the existing airport but the length for drop off is not nearly as long as it needs to be. It is no longer than before (just wider) and now you have to navigate through several more lanes and therefore it gets very congested. Maybe when the expansion is completed things will be better if they add more traffic islands.
  19. I agree. I am getting nervous that so many of the projects are taking so long to get started. I know things take time and the market can demand tenants in advance but many are residential (rental) proposals and they still have not started. The project across from the Arlington on South Blvd has had no movement for so long. As for office projects, there is so much discussion of COVID/work from home or hybrid models in the future that I wonder if there is enough demand. I really hope so! I want to see as many tower cranes as possible too! It seems that Raleigh has so many proposals out there as well with a desire to have several 40 story towers, but I just worry about the demand. Is it going to be there? I guess I just need to wait and see what happens as I have not control.
  20. NCPA October 4, 2021 Centene Corp. will pay more than $71.2 million to settle allegations from Illinois and Arkansas that a PBM subsidiary submitted inaccurate bills and failed to disclose discounts. The company will pay more than $56 million in two installments to Illinois and $15.2 million to Arkansas. The lawsuits stemmed from allegations that Envolve, Centene's PBM subsidiary, was overpaid by state Medicaid programs. Envolve allegedly used inaccurate reimbursement requests that inflated fees, according to an announcement of the settlement. In June, Centene settled a similar suit with the state of Ohio for $88.3 million and with Mississippi for $55 million, even though Mississippi had not yet filed a suit. NCPA
  21. Yeah, I have seen that too, that may help the situation here. But many airports have more than 1 terminal so drop-off and pick-up is more spread out so somewhat less congested. It always depends on location and time of day.
  22. The new façade will be amazing when complete. The additional lanes for drop-off and pick-up help but we still have the same limited amount of curbside so the traffic is still a mess at times. So many cars all jockeying for the right hand lane that many people just stop in any lane (including far left) and black all the traffic. I only hate that the A terminal extension did not have its own pick-up drop-off as a separate terminal. Maybe someday in the future we can hope for that and have so much more curbside for drop-off and pick-up.
  23. I am hoping for something great in the former Rock Bottom space.
  24. God save the Quee.... uhm HALL HOUSE!!! Just glad to see more potential housing in uptown. Would be nice for every empty block to have residential. Imagine the retail we could support with more residents. This project, Inlivian and Publix project will go along way to help North Tryon retail thrive someday. But someone please, save the Hall House. Such a great looking building.
