  1. According to an employee Sidewall Pizza is scheduled to have a 'soft' opening this Tuesday. OPEN to public on Thursday.
  2. Stopped by the new downtown Peddler a few days ago to grab a beer. What I saw was really nice. The bar area was comfortable and welcoming with a fireplace. Did not venture upstairs to where most of the dinning seating is. Good addition to downtown.
  3. Probably 'user error' but, had what happened? IMO Todd Horne should have run for council before mayor.
  4. Heard rumor from two different sources. The corner of East Main and Pine Street is going to be redeveloped. That the Village Inn and Town Square building will be demolished. Has anyone else heard something? Maybe Mellow Mushroom would consider-relocating to the old Wild Ace pizza spot. (historic C&S building). Or move across the street to new United Community Bank building.
  5. Eat dinner last night at Bar1884 for the first time. Food was great, but service was fair. Lot of folks downtown!
  6. The lot where this small development was planned is still vacant on Avant Street; one block from Converse College. There is a new rezoning request for most of the entire block from the Marathon Gas Station on East Main to Garrett Street; including a number of lots on Oakwood Avenue. The request is from Ray Billings , J. Hiltabiddle Construction to change the zoning to R-6 POD s. They plan on building a townhome development. Not sure if this is the same group who planned the original units.
  7. What about a stadium that can convert from baseball to soccer/lacrosse.
  8. Great vibe in downtown tonight. Nice weather helped, but still I was impressed. Have not been to Rockers on Saturday, but great band and good crowd. We are on a roll!
  9. I heard today that the Peddler was moving to the old Abby's location downtown. any conformation? i heard
  10. I would like to see Horne on City Council for at least one term before he is mayor.
  11. I think this is great! But not sure why Spartanburg has such long traffic arms. Even if future left only turn signals are the reason, many throughout downtown are way too long. When you look down Church Street all you see are these huge traffic arms that seem like they belong on a six lane highway. Do not see this in other cities and these poles can not be cheap.
  12. Recently heard that Becky sold the NuWay. Also, that there will be a goodbye bash later this month. Does anyone have more information? Thanks.
  13. My wife and I ate at Nacho Taco tonight in the old Refuel Wine Bar location. Very disappointed and probably will not go back. Broncos and Monterrey's much better. Great space but......
  14. Spartan, have you thought about an H-J letter to the editor? Or better yet an op-ed.
  15. From Spartanburg H-J: A Greer-based Mexican eatery is bringing its flaming fajitas and fresh guacamole to the east side of Spartanburg. California Style Guacamole Mexican Grill plans to open its first Spartanburg restaurant at 1071 Fernwood Glendale Road. The restaurant's owners will lease the 7,600-square-foot building, which was formerly occupied by the Four Seasons Restaurant and later Roots Deep South Eats.
  16. It is my understanding that the Deli's main owner is Elizabeth Evans. She is not connected with the Local Hiker or Scoops. But she has a lot of experience and owned Elizabeth's downtown and across from Converse College a few years ago.
  17. A little confused...Main and Liberty is where the Bishop Furniture building is. Denny's has land/park on another corner.
  18. Saw where Mother's opened in the old Lil' Ds location near Dudley's. Has anyone tried it? .
  19. Just saw where RJ Rockers Brewery has added more days and longer hours for their Tap Room: Tuesdays 3-8pm, Wednesdays 3-8pm Thursdays 3pm-9:00pm, Fridays 3pm-9:00pm and Saturdays 12pm-8pm
  20. OK, Thanks. Drove by today on St. Johns side.
  21. Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know what the deal is with the Subway at St Johns and Magnolia? Looks like there is construction and that site may be something else. Pure Barre expansion maybe?? That Subway seemed to do a pretty good business.
  22. It is my understanding that the city also assisted CH2M Hill with looking at the Beaumont Mill complex over a year ago. (Plus the site behind the Marriott)
  23. A mini Dave and Buster's would be cool. That would mean high tech games and a bar with beer/food. Maybe too expensive???
  24. I am surprised they did not close sooner. Have been there a couple of times. Was never impressed. The last time the owner was on her computer and did not say a word when we left. The time before the server was clueless about wine. Although, a cool place for a new tenant.
  25. Texas Road House opened yesterday. Nice addition for Spartanburg.
