Read this week where NC is going to add a midday train to the current Charlotte/Raleigh route. I believe SC, NC, and GA should push and fund additiional rail service between Atlanta and Charlotte. Wouldn't it be great to jump on a train and see a Brave's game. (not at 4:00 AM though) I would love to be able to leave downtown Spartanburg and ride a train to attend a Clemson football game. I realize that NC has more money than SC, but it seems they put a priority on transportation. (and education)

(not at 4:00 AM though) Also read where Greenville is discussing a ten year plan to have bus and light rail between Greenville, Clemson, Easley, Pickens, and GSP. Spartanburg should be a part of the plan. At the very least add SPARTA bus service to GSP that would connect with Greenlink (Greenville's transit). Thought maybe Smoke on the Water would be good. I have heard that Oyster's on the West End was not so good......any suggestions? I live in Spartanburg and need some new scenery. THANKS!

Unless something has changed in the past couple of months... Venus Pie allows smoking on the side near the kitchen (main dinning area) Monsoon has a smoking section in the upper level on evenings. Papa's allows smoking. Wade's is completely non-smoking.

Hi, Which of these are completely non-smoking? I try to go with my family to non-smoking places. Although, I do admit that I will grab a burger or listen to music once in a while where smoking seems to be encouraged. Places that allow smoking and have a kid's menu really bug me.

Taco Boy is a great place. When Justin's closed I sent an email to the landlord about Taco Boy. I also mentioned it to Spartanburg's Economic Development Director Patty Bock. A good downtown Mexican place should make it!!!

You mean QS/1? The company that brought hundreds of jobs downtown, built the pocket park at North Church and East St. Johns, main sponor of Jazz on the Square, redeveloped Ezell Street with the city. I love saving old buildings, but not sure about the charm and character of that building....there are so many other empty buildings downtown. Just saying that QS/1 has done a lot for Spartanburg!

To my knowledge when they first opened they advertised as non-smoking inside the entire resturaunt. This weekend people where smoking at the bar as well as the at the tall tables at the TVs. The place is wide open, so in my opinion there is no way to have a true smoking section. Having a smoking section does not prevent the health hazards of second-hand smoke. Last time I ate at Billy Ds I could still smell the smoke even though they have a partition at the bar. This is the southeast, go outside and smoke, it aint that cold.

Please read my post again. Dudley's opened as non-smoking, but is now smoke friendly. As a cancer survior, as well as my wife I look for non-smoking bars and resturaunts. Where I lived in Georgia the area has been smoke-free for about 10 years. Guess I have to move to a more progressive place like Sumter, (yes Sumter) to not worry about second-hand smoke. I would be happy with a law that bans smoking for any resturant that allows people under 21. That way places like Lil'ds and the cigar bar can have smoking. You might want to check out the health hazards of second-hand smoke.

My wife and I went to Dudley's last night. They are now SMOKE FRIENDLY, and not just confined to the bar. Although the service and food were good, I do not plan on going back. Guess I will have to try Two Samuels soon. Are there any other places that have changed their smoking policy? (from/to smoking/non-smoking)

I love the Nu-Way burgers! I can not handle the smoke anymore...so THANK YOU Main Street Pub and The Tap Room. I believe almost every city with a population of over 40,000 in South Carolina has a non-smoking ordinance, except Spartanburg. In two weeks most NC bars and resturants will be non-smoking. Why not require any establishment that allows people under 21 to be non-smoking? I want a smoking ban, but believe places like the Cigar Bar and Lil D's should still be allowed to have smoking. Any thoughts?

I also attended...I believe there were about 14 restaurants. Nu-Way, Justins, Limeleaf, Sonny's, and II Samuels were among those at the event. It was very nice with good music, art, and a family-friendly crowd. The paper did have pictures and a write up on Sunday.

I went in there for a drink last week after Music on Main. Very nice...I hope they are successful.

Two different sources have told me that Terry's Tap Room is moving beside RJ Rockers. Could be true.

Some people, including myself went to The Music Camp Saturday night. It was great. Spartanburg needs a true coffee house downtown...it would seem that the college/high school crowd would support at least one.
