  1. Just seems like GSP is trying to get service. If this was anywhere close to a done deal why would the Staff be "in the process of gathering information for Air Canada"?
  2. No. That's not an actual flight to GSP. DL131 is a nonstop to ATL from MUC and then a different plane ATL to GSP. I assume since it's marketed MUC-ATL-GSP the airport board got confused!
  3. looks like Allegiant quietly cut service from GSP to Punta Gorda.
  4. Somewhere around 6 months ago. They use the Super 80's to go to DFW twice a day. In May they switch to 737-800's as AA continues to retire their Super 80 fleet.
  5. Through Nov 2017 load factors were: Allegiant: 81.5% American: 79.8% Delta: 87.9% Southwest: 74.6% United: 84.3% Total: 82.9% https://gspairport.com/site/user/files/1/GSP-Commission-Package-20180108.pdf
  6. AA has now loaded the flights in their system. They are going with 3 flights a day on EMB-145's operated by Envoy Air. Departing GSP 8:10am, 10:05am, and 6:20pm. Flights arrive at 9:35am, 5:35pm, and 9pm. During this time United will be running 4 flights a day to ORD. The 6:40am and 5:23pm departures will be on EMB-175's and the 10:17am and 2pm departures will be on 145's.
  7. Looks like initially it will be once a day service on an EMB-145 operated by Envoy Air. Departing GSP at 8am and arriving at night at 9pm.
  8. American Airlines has announced service from GSP to ORD starting July 5th. Not a new destination for GSP, but part of what looks to be the beginning of a turf war between UA and AA at ORD with both airlines announcing expansion plans there. Always a good thing for consumers. Flight times and fleet type have not been announced yet for this service. http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/flights/todayinthesky/2017/03/10/battle-ohare-american-expands-chicago-route-map/99000902/
  9. Here's a couple pics of a touch and go and another of an arrival of the 747.
  10. Actually it was the same plane just circling around doing touch and gos. Military planes do that all the time at GSP. They'll circle back a few times then fly off. They never actually land there.
  11. Yes. It goes back and forth from Germany 2 to 3 times a week.
  12. Incorrect. The Hudson News/Tech on the Go and the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins in the new grand hall opened Saturday, Oct 29th.
  13. That's odd talking about PSA "eyeing" GSP and "finalizing a deal." PSA has been hiring for a couple months now for GSP and they still list multiple positions available. By mid August AA has GSP-CLT go almost exclusively all PSA CRJ 7 & 900. This deal has been locked down for quite sometime. Odd the story acts likes it's not even a done deal yet. http://www.psaairlines.com/careers/careers/
  14. Sure does. I dont have the best pic of it bc it was closed, but as you can see you enter the precheck line to the right.
  15. When the new security area opens it will have a dedicated TSA pre-check line. Also, not all of the airlines had their kiosks ready when the move was made to the new ticket counters. United and Delta are fine and have always had them. American and Southwest should be getting theirs soon!
  16. Southwest recently extended their lease with the airport.
  17. Southwest is down to 1 gate at GSP, but with their current flight schedule they have 2 planes that overnight. Currently at GSP American/US Airways operate gates A1-3, Southwest has gate A4, and United has gates A6 and A8. Gates A5, A7, and A9 are common use gates and airlines pay on a "per use" basis as opposed to the monthly lease they have on their own gates. Also, those gates have common use computers and do not have any individual airline setup. Hence why when Southwest uses A7 they do not have the priority boarding line setup 1-5, 6-10, etc like they do at Gate A4. At the common use gates there is a flat screen TV and when the airline using the gate logs into their system, their logo pops up on the tv. When no one is logged in it reads GSP Airport. Previously Southwest used Gates A3 and A4 and American used A5, but American took A3 as it aligned with US Airways. All of the airlines have more planes overnight than they do actual gates. Delta parks and tows their planes and also uses the extra B gate. USairways uses A5 overnight and United uses A9.
  18. They are temporary but that's gonna be the look of the new ticket counters when they are completed. Airlines have been told they will be housed at the temporary ticket counters for approx 18 months.
  19. Well one big reason would be the partly on time rate United has. If you were a frequent ORD traveler there's absolutely no way you could travel there without being impacted multiple times. Their kickoff flight lists an on time percentage just over 75% of the time and they won't even list the 5pm stats. Probably b/c of how bad it does. Then again ORD is an on time machine compared to EWR. 4572 was list as the 3rd worst flight in the country last year according to the DOT for on time pct and it's not much better this year, especially with the runway construction that's been going on. IAD is pretty bad too when they run those ex ASA CRJ's. Those old birds are so unreliable it's silly. And now they're going bring in turbo props for IAD in August. God help us all!
  20. In defense of Southwest, they at least do somethings right. Their customer service rep is great, considered the best in the business. Checked bags are free (that should be considered when comparing fares). If you check in online the day before you're flight you're pretty much guaranteed a boarding number that gets you a pick of the seat you desire. You can connected to almost anywhere in the US in 1 stop, and you're on a nice, spacious plane that has a much better chance of beating cancellations and delays due to air traffic control that the dreaded regional jets from GSP suffer from so much. I get that Southwest isn't for everyone though and I know it isn't the preferred choice of business travelers, which is why I think it suffers at GSP. Greenville is a business destination and flyers are very loyal to their airline rewards number. Also since their fuel hedging advantage of years past has worn off, their prices have started to rise, taking away a lot of low fare options of the specials they always run. Their was a time when those "ding" fares would offer extremely cheap prices to a ton of places. Now, unless it's a nonstop, those cheap fares don't pop up as much. Still, they have lowered fares across the board and I do think people should give them the benefit of the doubt over other airlines if all things are equal b/c if Southwest does pull out, those other airlines fares will skyrocket again and GSP passengers won't have anyone to blame but themselves!
  21. Unfortunately that was the only positive stat from Southwest. After having a load factor of 57% last year which was 5th worst in their system, looks like they are only up to 65% despite the 80% from May. Not sure where that ranks now, but can't think that moves GSP too high up. Also, while the load factor was at 80.5%, that is mostly b/c of all the flight cuts by Southwest. May of 2013 actually had 2211 more passengers than this year. That's an 11% drop. GSP's avg was a 4% growth and AA had a 1% growth, Delta 16%, and US Airways a 20% growth in number of passenger flown. United was the only other of the 5 major airlines with a decline in passengers at -6% so Southwest's drop is certainly alarming!
  22. Looks like the Dunkin Donuts, Flatwood Grill, and Hudson News next to the new baggage claim are just about ready to open!
  23. CLT-DEN is a nonstop US route. United does not service it though. Atlanta does as well. I guess I didn't clarify well nor was I reading well either. I was kinda zoned in on the whole "fly just to hubs" notion from the smaller airport for some reason as I was reading. I was playing on the fact that Denver and Miami are hubs for airlines that don't/didn't have hubs in Atlanta or Charlotte where they can fly a bunch of folks 6-8 times a day, so it wouldn't be that surprising if they flew there. Point being United and American don't/didn't have close hubs to GSP like Atlanta or Charlotte, so if they were going to fly somewhere from GSP, why couldn't it be from another one of their hubs? Didn't really get the ATL/CLT point b/c it's not like there aren't going to be any flights from GSP b/c ATL/CLT are driveable. What's the reasoning of the 18 other cities those airlines fly to? What makes DEN/MIA so far fetched compared to some of the others? United has a lot of Denver passengers (and even more pax going all over the west coast) mixed throughout their 5 cities each day and I've been told Southwest has a tremendous amount of thru passengers on their 1 stop flight from the GSP-MDW-DEN route. Add that with those who choose to fly AA/US or DL instead and there's a good bet you could fill a CRJ-700 or ERJ-170 to DEN each day. I know I mentioned TYS having a daily ERJ-145 to DEN each day, but I forgot the only real reason they have that is b/c TYS is a maintenance base for ERJ's so that flight helps funnel planes in and out of there. That flight wouldn't be there realistically without it. United's flights to IAH for west coasters are always booked and it always makes me wonder why certain times a year (like now) they only service IAH once a day. Whenever they do it twice it's always full. But that's a different story for a different day...... As for Miami, a ton of people from Latin America come thru GSP and Miami is such a better gateway to get them here. It would open up so many more cities to GSP than can be serviced right now. I know American is considering it. Basically it comes down to giving up 1 of their CLT nonstops each day and make it a Miami run, which as of right now, they are unwilling to do.
  24. Then why are there flights to 18 other destinations? Denver and Miami are also hubs for 2 airlines that, up until this recent merger, did not serve either Atlanta or Charlotte.
