  1. Oh, that is good news. I was getting scared that this project wasn't actually going to happen. Maybe you should tell them to remove the "For Sale" sign from the top of the mill.
  2. You shouldn't be scared to go to Eastland Mall. If you're a little nervous and you want to go check it out, go Saturday morning right when they open at 10am or Sunday at 12:30. Yeah, it does have many "corny urban stores," but it has many stores you would find in other malls too. I don't think you'll feel uncomfortable if you go early.
  3. What is the disadvantage to living near a stadium? Just the noise?
  4. Just curious--is there no Mecklenburg County Fair?
  5. That sucks. I can't believe there weren't more people there. All those people who work downtown--couldn't they have stepped out of their offices for a few minutes? It was during lunchtime after all.
  6. According to their website, the only thing they have in Columbia is East Pointe Plaza.
  7. What's weird is that it isn't listed for the other contending cities. I guess the Emporis editors for Charlotte are just better.
  8. I'm not sure why it isn't on their website, but the Charlotte Observer reported that it was being built there. I believe the article was posted in this thread a few pages back.
  9. I saw a sign yesterday that the aforementioned NorthLake Village is the name for the previously unnamed group of stores east of 77 from the mall, where Boyles and all those furniture stores and hotels are now. They are currently building the HH Gregg in the middle of it; I would say the frame is about 75% finished. Unfortunately because different pieces of this shopping center have been added at different times, all the buildings look haphazard. The newest section, with Quizno's and Azteca, has entrances that face the middle (where HH Gregg will be), leaving quite an ugly view to the road, but some other portions have entrances that face Statesville Rd. Ultimately I think it will be like that grouping of stores across 85 from Concord Mills, where BJ's and Garden Ridge are, but not as large.
  10. Exciting news for teen and pre-teen girls--Delia's is opening in SouthPark this weekend.
  11. And the staff at Dish are actually friendly, as opposed to the staff at The Penguin.
  12. If you make it to Plaza Midwood, you should try either Dish or The Penguin. They are across the street from one another on Thomas Avenue. Dish is southern comfort food with a slightly modern twist and The Penguin is a former 50s drive-in that specializes in burgers and fried pickles.
  13. FYI, North Mecklenburg High School Marching Band is selling tickets for a Hecht's preview day, September 13 from 9am to 9:30pm. They are $5 each and only ticketholders will be allowed in. There are supposed to be special items and special prices for this day.
  14. There is an Ice House in Pineville. I don't believe there is another ice rink in Charlotte.
  15. I love Metropolitan! I definitely don't think the store was full of junk--there were a lot of cute, unique items, though maybe overpriced. I do think it would do better in an area like Plaza-Midwood or NoDa. It probably isn't fancy enough for the South Park shoppers.
  16. You're not going to leave out American Idol superstars Clay Aiken and Fantasia, are you?
  17. Yeah, I think it's still going to be difficult to access and the thought of walking through/near a cemetary at night is not appealing to me.
  18. There is already a WalMart on Eastway at Central, but I suppose they could close that one and build a Supercenter. When Winn Dixie there closes and HT at Eastland closes, people will need a new grocery store. I'd hate to see that Eastway WalMart vacant though, because I don't think anything else could fill that huge space.
  19. Yeah, I went over there a few weeks ago to see what it was like. We had to wait for at least 10 minutes for a train to pass before we could take the little road back there. It would certainly not be a path I would be willing to walk, especially at night. I hope they get something worked out because I think it has potential to be cool, but right now I don't see how many people would go back there.
  20. Too bad for me--I work at Harris and 77. I'm biding my time until September.
  21. WHAT?!? This is awful. How can they close Athens? Where are all the drunks supposed to go at 4am? They're not even relocating?
  22. Eastland Mall is totally fine if you go early in the day. I've been there numerous times by myself and never felt uncomfortable. Yeah, there are some groups of teenagers just hanging out, but there are a lot of families and other people shopping and it's no big deal. I think as it gets to be night time, especially on Friday and Saturday, more people are there to hang out than they are to shop.
  23. Here is a website with info about Northlake Commons: http://www.faison.com/property_detail.php?pid=42 If you click on view brochure you can see a few restaurants--O'Charley's, Chik-fil-a, Panera Bread, Olive Garden, Mama Fu's, On The Border, and Chili's, as well as a Men's Warehouse. I did a search for NorthCrest and all I could find was a blurb saying it was to be the open-air portion of the Northlake Mall development.
  24. Does anyone know exactly where the Target is going to go? They are clearing off land east of 77 that is in the middle of a few furniture stores and hotels and I'm wondering what's going there. I wouldn't think it would be the ideal location for a Target.
