  1. As MB said, the construction around the mall is aplenty. I wonder how significant the impact will be on restaurants and stores near 77 in Huntersville, besides just Birkdale. Many people that I work with go to Huntersville almost every day to eat lunch or go to Target, Old Navy, etc. When all the restaurants and the SuperTarget open, there will be no need for them to go to Huntersville anymore. Northlake Commons plans to have O'Charley's and Chili's and I'm sure there will be some other repeats of what's nearby in Huntersville too.
  2. The press release from Taubman in May said it would be 1.1 million sq ft, but I don't know if that is actually the case.
  3. If we're talking about the same houses, the last time I drove through there it looked like they had stickers indicating they were condemned, so I am hoping they will be torn down. I asked before in this thread if anymore houses were going to be torn down for the current Tuscan projects and was told they were not, but the houses I think you're talking about are closer to downtown. It looks like they haven't been occupied in a long time.
  4. Haha. If they carpool then they won't have enough room for all their purchases.
  5. When I left work last night, getting onto 77 I could see people slowly circling the mall parking lot looking for space.
  6. Maybe I won't go over there then. It would have taken her less time to walk, although she probably would have gotten killed trying to cross the street.
  7. I got to work around 9:20 and traffic at exit 18 didn't seem any different to me, though on Harris I turn the opposite way from the mall. I did notice that they are having their employees park east of 77 by Hickory Tavern and take a shuttle over to the mall. I guess they think they will need every parking space today! I may try to go over there--if so, I'll report back.
  8. Yikes! I just put my CDs on my ipod. The only time I would buy a song is if I didn't want the entire CD, just one or two songs, but that usually isn't the case.
  9. Haha. And what a store it is. This is why CD stores now carry and often rent DVDs as well. Of course there are still those of us who prefer to have the actual product in hand to keep CD stores in business.
  10. I do think it would be odd to have a big, tacky FYE in Southpark. Are there any music stores that seem nicer?
  11. Well it will be fine if it can be replaced with something, like the Burlington and Fred's stores did, but what do you think could go there and be successful? I forgot to mention yesterday that the Dick's Sporting Goods at Northlake is already open for business, so you don't have to wait until tomorrow!
  12. I don't think it's really all that different from Carolina Place, but all those people who live in North Charlotte and north of Charlotte won't have to drive so far for a mall.
  13. I just got back from Hecht's. Nothing special there, but it was really crowded and these are just the people who bought the fundraiser tickets. It's going to be packed on Thursday and on through the weekend. The inside of the mall is not open, but I could see it from Hecht's and it does not look like it will be ready by Thursday morning, but who knows. I found it pretty easy to drive in and out, but people have no idea where they are going once they get on Harris Blvd. Mall traffic has to move from the left to the right lane very quickly for 77S. Needless to say, that will be a disaster on Thursday.
  14. You think? I really don't find it to be a problem, granted I only use it coming to work around 9 and leaving around 6.
  15. I'm thinking (hoping really) that the mall traffic won't affect the commuting to work traffic too much. Except for opening day, the mall won't open until 10am and it closes at 9pm, so it shouldn't have too much impact on the 8-5 drivers. Just don't try to use 77N around the mall on Saturday.
  16. Good to know; I've thought about trying that place. Has anyone been to Creation on The Plaza near Central?
  17. Oh, I bought one of those fundraiser tickets to shop Tuesday. Mine is for Hecht's, but I think the other dept. stores participated also.
  18. Nope, it's still blocked at Statesville.
  19. Haha, yeah I'm not sure I would want to leave that thing open with no screen or anything. It's a cool idea though. I think the rendering of the building is pretty ugly.
  20. Any update on Tuscan's condo project on Central Ave? http://www.ucanroll.com doesn't appear to have been updated in a while.
  21. I didn't actually go in Dillard's, but it looked like only the deck was under construction.
  22. That's odd. I always thought every county in NC had a fair. I wonder why Mecklenburg doesn't. I guess going to Columbia for the SC state fair would be closer than going to Raleigh for the NC state fair.
