Some reflections on A few random street levels from this past week: 

I think the biggest difference over the past couple years is the expansion of urbanity coming into Southend from Uptown. Just a couple years ago, the true urban core of Charlotte diminished as soon as you crossed 277. Now  it’s pretty continuous. Southend is quickly becoming my personal favorite area in Charlotte. The projects, the walkability, the rail- everything about it is coming together nicely.  It also helps that it’s between two historic neighborhoods : Dillworth and Wilmore.

Shot 1:  it’s not Charlotte unless you frame it with power lines and trees.

Shot 2:  Better when framed only by foliage.

The building in the middle could’ve had the best bank name and logo of them all:  Wachovia!  It was not meant to be.

a good friend reminded me that tomorrow is my 5th anniversary on UP.  I got off to a rocky start and my first post ever was panned LOL.  Then back in the spring of 2016 I started taking photos and have not stopped.  Bad good and sometimes great I kept shooting.  So here are a few from the spring of 2016 and how Charlotte has changed in those 5 years.  I might celebrate tomorrow with a 3 pack of my favorite doughnuts.  On my 3rd camera since then and through dirty windshields, my famous drive by photos continue and my walk bys.  

Lets see who can identify all these and the last 2 photos are the same shot taken early this month from Southpark area see anything different.  and back in 2016 my pro friend took some great photos of the rubble uptown. 

Charlotte UP has more photos I think they all the other very active UP sites in the south  combined and that is a great thing.   We have many fantastic photographers on here keep shooting the growth of Charlotte!

I feel like this stretch has super potential...those parking decks are prime real estate

Anyone know of any plans along the couple of blocks north of the park up to Trade? That stretch should include majority residential, hotel and retail, with a smattering of office IMO.

There have been discussions about those decks being built upon or removed in favor of new development. I think their days are numbered.

Looks like Metro tower is a little taller than the JW Marriott now.

There were a couple projects in this view that would have been announced by now if there were no COVID. I have no idea of their updates, or if they are still planned. The enterprise rental site has been very quiet of late.

What’s the story with 512 N Tryon? I love this little building. Would make an epic townhouse. I know it had a diner once in the bottom floor, but it looks like it had some reno done on the bottom floor.

Tic Toc coffee shop was the ground floor.  The owner's built the apartment above it (was an addition 15-20 yard ago)  for themselves.  I believe (but I'm not sure) that they have moved from Charlotte.

TicToc Diner was on the ground floor and owned and run by Walter Fields IV, known as "Quad". His father WF III was a city planner for years and has been in private business advising for real estate development for some years. Quad sold his business to a married couple ~11-12 years ago and I lost track of him and the business at that time. It was a breakfast and lunch place.
