The Value Place has been a joke...with south Louisiana heat & humidity how is the interior not rotten and full of mold & mildew??

Was not aware that BR's Red Lion was the only location East of the Rockies....will the Radisson keep the funky orange colors??

Second change in a year: The Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center at South Acadian Thruway and Interstate 10 is switching flags, effective Wednesday. The hotel will now be the Radisson Baton Rouge Hotel and Conference Center. The owners of the hotel, Cajun Lodging, say it was a business decision to switch the brand to the better-known Radisson. The Baton Rouge location was the only Red Lion east of the Rocky Mountains. The hotel previously underwent a two-year renovation that wrapped up in June 2008 to bring it up to Red Lion standards; the main overhaul this time was bringing in new beds and 32-inch flat-screen TVs for the rooms.

They better damn well tear them down. Maybe the city will file suit or something. The chain has open hotels in other parts of the country....granted they suck, but they are open for business.

Those things are eyesores.

I still want the one by Cortana to get built, I figure it might help revitalize the area.

It's possible, but that particular chain is aimed more towards business clients....I think what would help Cortana immensely would be a renovation combined with a widening/improved Airline Hwy north of Florida and Florida Blvd itself.

I think a full blown facelift and remerchandising of Cortana would be in the best of interest for everyone. . Clearly we all see that Mall of Louisiana is taking big steps to becoming more of a high end shopping venue. . why cant Cortana remerchandise to better suit the needs of the middle class.......... or better yet, since Cortana is the largest mall in the state, transform the mall into mini-Galleria, if you will (I think we are the only state without one . . well, Mississippi..lol) and that area will really spark growth . .. just my two cents. .

Cortana seems like he has been keeping it's head above water...hope that can continue...the power center that surrounds the eastern-half has helped; but the area in general has been a bit stagnant...all the undeveloped land along Tom Drive extension is zoned industrial...still has never developed.

Another new hotel??? When will it ever stop?? Small number of rooms for 4-stories...curious to see the design

Hotel planned near Siegen-Industriplex intersection

A 58-room hotel is being planned near the Siegen Lane-Industriplex Boulevard intersection. A permit for a four-story Highland Inn on Honore Lane has been filed with the city-parish building inspector's office. A 104-room Holiday Inn Express opened up near the proposed Highland Inn location earlier this year.

Staybridge Suites at Southgate Towers is supposed to be opening today...just in time for LSU Football Season! Within walking distance of the Tiger Stadium!!! The 117-unit extended stay hotel will also have 13,000 sq ft of retail space on the bottom floor; which includes storage units for tailgaters!

Another hotel in the area is a possiblity if demand is strong.

Saw this in Advocate last week...no article on website for some reason.

Wasn't a major hotel supposed to be built where the University Shopping Center once stood? I'd thought it was supposed to go up somewhere around where the old theater used to be. I'm surprised that a major hotel hasn't been built immediately next to the LSU campus. BTW, hello again, I know it's been ages. I'm back again.

I have not heard about any hotel being built the old University Shopping Center; that would be interesting...that land is still vacant(been a while since drove past it)Something sure should have been built there now/prime location

A 6-story/121-room Staybridge Suites at Southgate Towers on Nicholson(just south of Tiger Stadium) recently opened before LSU football season took a pic...See POST #221 above

Good to have you back posting with us Tom

If I had the means, I'd try to develop a hotel in that area The closer to tiger stadium, the better.

^Yeah the Staybridge Suites at Southgate Towers really seems to be doing well...s hotel at this location in the shadows of Tiger Stadium was a long time coming!

After the renovation at the Hotel Indigo(old Hotel King downtown) and this LaQuinta Inn in suburban EBR...not too sure how many hotels we will see...rumor has it the hotel market may now be saturated with all the new hotels that went up with help from GO Zone funding...the run was fun while it lasted..

Like yall... would have liked to have seen the Renaissance Hotel go up off Bluebonnet...will the 12-story concrete monstrosity forever remain?? It would be nice to see Perkins Rowe get a hotel...and a true convention-type high-rise hotel for the River Center...

A 65-room La Quinta Inn is under construction near the Interstate 12-O'Neal Lane intersection. The hotel, the fourth La Quinta in the Capital Region, is set to open in August

Another hotel!! :D

"Holiday Inn Express to break ground at Satsuma development

A groundbreaking was set for a Holiday Inn Express at 10 a.m. today at the northeast corner of the Satsuma Road exit of Interstate 12, the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce says. The north side of the interchange is the site of retail and housing construction for the Suma Crossing development, across the highway from the future North Oaks Livingston Parish Medical Complex. Sherman Messer of Messer Real Estate, the sales agent for developer Garry Lewis, says the hotel will have 80 rooms and will take about six to eight months to build. Nearby, 80 condos are set to go up, and a building designed for a restaurant is ready for lease. For a longer version of this story, click here."

Maybe there is a little more room for a few smaller hotels for the outskirts of the metro in western Livingston Parish...I think the dude was talking about BR-urban proper now risking being over-built....the old 12-story unfinished dorm on Bluebonnet is a real eye-sore in a booming area...that has been as disapionting as anything..do not think the project qualified for TIF's like Hotel King(new Indigo) did...

Those new hotel(s) going up/just went up in Denham Springs are on the opposite/wrong side of I-12 from Bass Pro IMO...

BTW looks like that Value Place at I-12/Sherwood Forest Blvd is FINALLY coming along...

Belle: Sheraton leaving ‘mutual’... Mayor defends hotel needs in BR

Dropping the Sheraton flag from its 300-room downtown hotel was a mutual decision made with input from Sheraton, said the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino owner on Wednesday. Also Wednesday, Tropicana Entertainment Inc. said it won’t pursue another hotel chain affiliation. Instead, it will stick with the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel moniker that the 10-story hotel assumes today.

And Mayor-President Kip Holden, countering comments made by a hotel consultant about the situation, said Baton Rouge’s hotel inventory isn’t overbuilt and additional downtown rooms are needed to raise the city’s profile as a convention destination. The mayor disagreed with comments by hotel consultant Jon Fels that the city’s hotel industry, including downtown, is overbuilt.

Holden said developer Pete Clements’ description Tuesday of plans for two hotels in the proposed River Park area in north downtown underscore that demand exists for more hotel rooms.

Those hotels may be several years away, but a Hotel Indigo project under construction across from the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center will add about 100 rooms and raise the downtown total to 700 by the end of 2010.

The hotel consultant, Fels, said it’s doubtful Baton Rouge can continue adding hotel rooms without economic repercussions for the existing lodging industry.
