sprawl? I'm not seeing that as Mexico City's biggest problem . . . its the smog and the crumbling ecology supporting the city. It was the best place for a city of 500 years ago, it is probably the WORST place for a city in the 21st century, the smog I am told is inducted into the atmosphere, a very bad region for massive polution (though I am told that the city is doing many good things to stem that tide). Just the ground underneath the city too is sealing its fate, a former lakebed, it was probably one of the best sites in the world hundreds of years ago but today the city should consider a Delhi, New Delhi, or a Rio to Brasilia type of transfer in coming years . . . what do you all think?

I have a friend who's currently in Mexico City, I'm waiting for him to get back to hear how it was. Yes Mexico City is a very large city, generally it and Tokyo vie for biggest metro in the world. It basically depends on how far out you define the metro. The smog will be a hard thing to get rid of. I think US cities would also have problems in they were in a similar area. It's surrounded by mountains and it keeps all it in. Los Angeles has problems with smog and it's smaller than Mexico City and it's totally open to the ocean on one side.
