i purposely shop in north attleboro and seekonk because the traffic is nowhere near as bad as rt 2... but i'd shop in RI if there were better options than rt 2).

I do exactly the same thing. When I absolutely need to do the chain store shopping thing, I often will purposely do Seekonk over Rt 2 just because I can't stand the traffic flow there.

rt 6 in seekonk isnt as bad as rt 1 in north attleboro or rt 2 in warwick

but rt 1 in north attlrboro is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabsolutely brutal EVERYDAY during evening rush hour between rt 295 and rt 123 in south attleboro, not to mention christmas that ride can take you a half hour, and its only about 1.5-2 miles between the two!

but outside of rush hour and christmas, rt 1 in north attleboro still isn't as bad as rt 2.

at christmas, they're all hell, which is why i try to do as much online shopping as possible.

There are plenty of box stores at Apple Valley, Lincoln and others here and there. You might have to do a little more driving , but as long as you keep going to Mass for shopping those stores won't come here. It is almost like the Casino argument. Money passing us by for Connecticut Casinos because there is not one here. Rhode Island retail going to Massachusetts because a box store isn't here.

if studies have shown that a shorter runway would essentially be a waste since airlines will not be able to fill their planes to capacity... then what is up with this stupid mayor? Why was that area allowed to build so close to the airport in the first place anyways?

from today's Projo...

The FAA process will determine if the evirnomental impacts of expanding the runway to the full 9350 feet and if it's too great an impact on the Warwick community - they will likely recommend a shorter length - they just need to let the process takes it's course!

so now the governor is jumping on the warwick mayor's anti-expansion bandwagon? argh...

why can't they simply trust the FAA in the fact that if the planes have to fly at partial capacity, we'll lose airlines (or rather, not gain any additional service) since it's not cost effective to fly at partial capacity?

I know - aggravating. IMHO, the governor is playing politics on this one. I think he knows enough to feel that the study will recommend a slightly shorter runway length that still meets the vast majority of the airlines' needs at PVD. This way, he still backs the need to lengthen the runway, but it seperates himself from the 'destructive' length that Warwick opposes. This way he saves face with the town's political types and the citizens of the second largest city in the State. It is an election year isn't it...

this is one strike against him in my mind.

In reality though, there is not much difference between 8,800 and 9,350. BOS launches 747s off of Runway 9-27 (7,000') all the time.

Anything over 8,500' gets pretty much unrestricted transcon and translantic. Perhaps the slightly shorter length will help it to materialize and come to fruition faster.

The Governor seems to see the big picture now. I think the Warwick mayor is afraid that the study comes back and finds that the impact of a 9350 foot runway won't be that severe - he keeps pushing for a shorter runway length now, instead of after the next round of reviews...

it was my understanding that some of the new, bigger, and more economical planes that TFGreen would attract in the future that are coming out of boeing and airbus are going to require the 9300' runways

check out their websites, its considered to be a major step forward in the affordable airflight of the near future

wish i had the links to the particular article i read it in, but there company websites might have press release pages

Weird news: Harragansetts join against Green expansion (ProJo).

Wow do I hate this development. The bones of the Narragansett? Technically, doesn't that allow them to play NIMBY anywhere they want to in this state?

Yes it does. In some cases its legitimate, but in others its bordering on irrational. They opposed a simple enhancement project in Portsmouth I think because it would affect spirits at the site... I'm not trying to be insensitive but come on, how is planting some shrubs and putting in some sidewalks going to piss off spirits?
