Sorry PBJ. In your speculations, this is for everyone, please do not call out specific forumers. It may put them in a VERY precarious position.

Thanks

Keep going though.....

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to post the user name...

Anyways, that's my 2 cents that I'd place a $10 wager on.. I have a feeling I'm on to something and will continue digging using the glory of the internet

Trump has also been looking in Dallas, and has a project going up in Philly along the DELAWARE RIVER.. he likes river devlopment.. just sayin

Here's another thought. Why in the WORLD would little ol Grand Rapids need a JW MARRIOTT with rooftop helipad with DAILY takeoffs??????

I thought it was necessary to show off the city's style and sophistication to big potential donors at VAI. And to transport them from GRR to DT.

Personally, I'd prefer rail rapid transit.

Without giving away the ending... you need to start thinking taller, larger, and more complex in nature. Comparing this to the development in Oklahoma City would be a mistake. This conversation needs to start exploring more exciting possibilities, if you know what I mean. Yeah, maybe you don't. But you will be hard pressed to guess this before an announcement. Pretty exciting!

Ok, so a really out there guess would be something like a biosphere cityin a city with a glass dome covering it. Something they would want to test out in a cold weather city like ours.

I think its a light rail wonder land... An experiment to test if Grand Rapids is ready to support a small working model of light rail. They will round up innocent people and put them on the lines to ride endlessly until someone stands up and says "ok it works..."

lol you guys crack me up! All this speculation, I'm going to send everyone a couple ritalin pills to calm you all down, i'm starting to worry about blood pressure. I plan on taking a more shrewd wait and see approach. But keep talking, I go away from my computer for a half hour, and there are two new pages, definately giving me something to do! :)

Maybe a biotech research firm? Perhaps the emphasis the city and the state are trying to put on the life sciences is bearing fruit...

What I am speculating is a massive riverboat casino/entertainment complex with hotel(s), restaurants and the works or some sort of amusement park complex. <snip>

After all this speculating I'm going to be deflated like a popped balloon if all this buzz is about a casino. There are those who would fight against that for all they're worth -- adding years to the approval process and millions to the costs.

I know that some on the Grand Action committee and others who have given and invested all the private money to rebuild downtown over the past decade would cringe at the thought. Personally, I detest casinos and the role they play in destroying people and families. I'm no prude, but have personally witnessed the destructive influence of gambling on those with addictive personalities and their families.

The positive feeling of Chicago's Navy Pier or Boston's Fanueil Hall do a lot to set the mood of those cities. Hopefully, whatever this is, will be good for the community in measures way beyond "tall buildings and tax dolars". A community has a soul too. Let's hope this is good for the community's soul as well as a few folks' pocketbooks.

Just a thought.

ps: What really made me smile was the GRBJ scooping the GR press on this one.

I think every kid way back in carrer day requested to hold "the gun." I like the GRPD badges. I go for the short crested NYPD padge design, not the long oval LAPD badge...

Rizzo, I would say I get that request once a tour. I tell you what though our Dept. gets a lot of bad press but you couldn't ask for a more professional department. Everyday I go to work I'm proud to wear the uniform.

I would imagine that if it were some type of entertainment venue, it would have to be more than a regional attraction with the amount of money they are talking about on this secret project. It could be anything, everything I have heard people talk about thus far, I can see happening. Well I guess some things are a little more far fetched than others. Personally I'd like to see something more along the lines of a corporate presence. I think it would benefit the area most.

Yes....but I think that site is a perfect stage for a riverboat Casino complex. Take a look at this arial photo of a riverboat Casino in Kansas City area.
