Here are some reported facts:

• Developed by Raleigh-based SLI Capital and New York developer Mack Real Estate Group of New York
• Located at the corner of South Saunders Street and Hammell Drive
• The total cost across both phases is expected to come in at around $600 for phase 1&2
• The companies are hoping to kick off construction by the third quarter of 2022
• Towers will be mixed use: apartments, office, and retail space

Photos of the park.  However right outside Dix on Lake Wheeler Rd I did see a construction site maybe for some apartments.  From yesterday. 

are the buildings going to be torn down or restored or a mixture of both?

that upside down side was weird. the other side was correct and I think I know what happened maybe they tried to reuse the piece of granite but turned it the wrong way.

""A two-tower development with hundreds of residential units near Dix Park in Raleigh is moving toward going vertical.

Real estate firms SLI Capital of Raleigh and Mack Real Estate Group of New York have secured financing for the first phase of The Weld, a development that's years in the making along Lake Wheeler Road.  

The $700 million project calls for 1,200 apartments. The first phase will be two 20-story towers holding 675 units with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments that will be market rate. The 3.5 acre site is at the corner of Lake Wheeler Road and Hammell Drive. Site work is underway on phase one with a completion date set for summer 2025.

Site plans filed last year showed phase one would total more than 1 million square feet of space.

Each building will include a ground-level restaurant and retail space and share a central green space that will serve as a gathering place for residents. The glass-fronted units will offer expansive views of Dix Park.

There are two projects going on right now along Lake Wheeler.  The Kane one is at bottom of hill where Lake Wheeler hits S.Saunders.   But at top of hill, they have cleared a large area that used to be tiny houses.  I assume that will be some kind of higher density housing...
