2023-042. Wilmore Preservation LLC. 3.28 acres at 424 West Blvd. from R-8(HD) to MUDD-O (HD). “Mixed use and adaptive re-use.” Site plan calls for 270 apartments, 2,500 s.f. of retail/restaurants and 4,300 s.f. of event space. 

This sounds amazing, I hope my neighbors don't complain too much...

Mr Wilmore I hope not either.  It is a adaptive reuse meaning they will use the school for apartments and then add some I am sure.  School conversions to residential have been done all over the country but rarely here due to the fact we need the school buildings.

Looks to be a few apartments under consideration along S Tryon in Wilmore. One would include the Stop&Go property at 1632 S Tryon and the two adjacent properties along S Tryon. The other would be the parcels next to the Bojangles, 1726 S Tryon.  Both are TOD-NC so by right height up to 75 ft. Anyone have any additional details?

One is being developed by Panaroma (84 units, 0 parking), the other is by the guy who initiated The Square.

I would mourn the loss of the Stab and Go  Stop and Go. Whatever replaces it better have retail with another convenience store

unpopular opinion: its a bummer that these arent in the historic district. While the HDC can seem overbearing at times they ensure a quality project every time and ultimately what they do is for the greater good of the neighborhood. Without HDC purview a developer could easily come in and build some fiber cement garbage. The no-parking aspect is sure to rile up Wilmore residents, too

Agreed, the historic district is the only thing stopping Wilmore from being another McMansion neighborhood.

Related, the houses on West Blvd, while probably not the *optimal* use for that space, look really good right now after most have been renovated.

@wilmoretotally agree. It's a shame that Belmont didn't go for HD designation. It's being littered with some of the worst gray-box mcmansions I've ever seen. Wilmore residents should be very thankful

Initial details of the Wilmore school redevelopment are here. 200+ apartment units. Restaurant space on the corner of West/Mint. Also, repurposing the existing theater to "something" down the road. Next step is to get approval to rezone from residential to MUDD.

^^this project looks great and underground parking thank you Avery Hall!  their apartments going up in NoDa look good too.  Plus saves a historical school building as well and builds on the surface parking lot and removes some 1970s additions.

And tone deaf NCDOT requested adding a turn lane on West for the right turn onto Mint. We don’t need suburban infrastructure in the city. Charlotte would be much better off if the state did not have control over major roads through Charlotte.

I didn’t mean to spark such a lively discussion about the neighborhood in the south end high rise thread but I enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts and wanted to move things to this underused thread.
