Animals across the Carolinas

Speaking of deer and other animals this story from the Charlotte Ledger sums it up here in Charlotte and the first ring counties of the metro.  Deer are overpopulated on Hatteras Island too due to no hunting as most of the island is national park.    We have a population boom of both humans and wild animals in Meck County and surrounding metro counties.

If you don't subscribe to the Ledger you should.   Great article about the explosion of wildlife in the urban and suburban areas.   That is why coyotes are moving into the Charlotte area due to abundance of their food mainly deer.  I have heard the howl of a coyote  and yes it is bloodcurling when it is outside your house. in the middle of the night.

In terms of black bears in NC the highest concentration in the world (yes world)  is not in the mountains but in swamps and forest of inner banks area of NC  of eastern NC think mainland Dare County, Tyrrell County, Hyde County,  Washington and Pamlico counties etc.  Biggest black bears in the world.  So next time you on your way to the Outer Banks from Charlotte be aware of bears and they are not joking.  I have seen one in the daylight at the edge of a field and forest.

vexillologists consulted and Minnesota has a new flag:

old flag:

I actually preferred the winning design (which was definitely the best of the final 6). I think they watered it down just a little too much in the final rendition.

Finally… haha I always felt like MN needed a new flag.

First new foal has been born on the northern OBX in Currituck County to the family of wild horses that lives there for this year.    If you have not been to this special part of NC make plans to do so hotels in Corolla and nearby Kitty Hawk.
