Knoxville will be hosting the US PRO cycling Road Championship again next year. I really hope to make it to this one as I was out of town last year. I know it isn't huge, but it probably does have somewhat of a positive financial impact for the city. A TN native won it this year

To address population growth in Blount County, several major roadways are slated for expansion via funding under the State of Tennessee's IMPROVE Act.

Courtesy of The Daily Times (Blount Co. newspaper), here is a graphic of the roadways that are currently being widened or will be widened by 2022.

Your wishes came true! It's now home to Regal Cinemas HQ and residential units. I need to post another picture of it soon.

Ah, I see that now!  Went through a caught up on some of the posts on this board.  Very nice!  Seems like a "few" new things have happened since I was last there around 2011!  The campus is looking good.  I know they were starting to really begin to invest and had some cool looking plans.  Looking much more pedestrian friendly, especially Cumberland Ave.  The old hospital would have been a cool reuse, but I understand it probably wasn't feasible.  However, I am more of an extreme reuse patron!  It seems they did keep a couple of buildings there?  Glad to see good stuff going on there.  Knoxville is a good city.  They have some very cool things there.  However, there is a lot of potential there as well.  Glad to see some taking advantage of it and trying to make it better!  Unfortunately, I have bitter-sweet feelings with the city, but it will always have a place in my heart!

Knoxville/Knox County government is rewriting its 60-year-old zoning codes. This will enable mixed-use developments in the county proper, which has experienced rapid population growth in the past decade and is forecast to continue growing. This is great news for thr proliferation of sustainable development and will help mitigate Knox County's sprawl problem.

Did you know that Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the few popular parks that does not charge a fee and why is that?   We can give a big thank you to the state of Tennessee which said US 441 the road that both NC and TN built through the park would remain free of a toll FOREVER.  This North Carolina native thanks you and no wonder this national park is the busiest national park in the country and benefits both states immensely!

^^ You got that right.  Tennessee was birthed from North Carolina because of few people who did not want to  travel all the way to Raleigh to the state capital.

The former Sevier Heights Baptist Church is being converted into a mixed-use development that will include a "microbrewery, bike rental shop and restaurant with an event space."

Baker Creek Bottoms will be in South Knoxville, a revitalized neighborhood now sporting renovated homes, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and beautiful parks.
