North Tryon (re)Development: 277 to Old Concord

this fits perfectly for this thread.  This was texted to me recently about all the apartments planned and under development along the North Tryon corridor from uptown to Sugar Creek.  It is staggering and will be transformative for this area that was not a residential corridor in the recent past.    And this actually misses a few apartment projects planned.

this is probably a good idea.  This project on N Tryon converting to more retail uses instead of office space.

That property was for many years Moss Trucking a heavy hauler and rigging and logistics company. The trucks and trailers were distinctive yellow. The property had a billboard advertising "We Moved Tweetsie" to say they carried a locomotive up the mountain by truck many years ago. If you are unfamiliar with Tweetsie go elsewhere for your information. Moss was owned by T. Bragg McLeod. Yellow trailers and tractors on the lot regularly as I drove by when I worked on Atando in the early anthropocene era

 

Bragg started driving trucks with tobacco leaf to warehouses in Harnett County. Later, and in my time, he bought and restored the John Price Carr house. This is at McDowell and 5th street.

Question - Is The Large Apartment Project under construction on Twelth Street (adjacent to the vacated Tent City) considered to be part of this thread?  Anyway - It’s moving along at a steady pace but I’m slightly worried about the brutalist cinderblock look so far.  Anyone have the final rendering for it?

I'm pretty sure the cinder block will be covered in something, whether it's brick, stucco, or otherwise.

I just posted some photos in the Misc Uptown thread but I am sure it will be covered in stucco or something.  Not seen a rendering at all of these apartments.

Another N. Tryon project, sorry for all these, I haven't had the time to search for these projects for MONTHS. This is directly across the street of the previously posted project. This is between 26th and 27th between Church Extension and N. Tryon.

WOW that sounds like some of those Nashville proposals.  New mid rise apartments are rising across the street and I am pretty sure this is an Opportunity Zone.  But really?  Unless financed by EB 1 visa holders I cant see how this could financed and the webpage read like ChatGPT.   But hey I would love to be proven wrong!   Reminds me of that tall 35 story apartment tower proposed by the silos off N Graham.

Yea, I looked up the people on the "About Us" page and most people left the company pre 2020, one even worked for my curent employer (!!!!!!) they are just paying for this website still for some reason.

Came down N Tryon and this area is so rapidly changing with multiple new apartment complexes underway. 

1. Avery Hall project with grocery store space that will sprout a grocer some day at 36th and N Tryon

2.  cleared site is Embrey of TX apartment community

(this warehouse building on left side of southbound N Tryon is being marketed by Ascent) but think this is another large apartment complex with retail too.  

3.   Prose apartments rising at Matheson and N Tryon   Alliance's project   From their website about their Prose brand:

Through years of research and development, we created highly cost-efficient product constructed to a lower price point, targeting rents up to 20% lower than comparable apartments. Went down N Tryon again today and stopped by the new Starbucks location site at the split closest from uptown across from the Amtrak station and WSOC.  First photo is the 2nd Avery Hall apartment building on 36th St by the tracks.  Then the new Starbucks photos.   Last photo shows the new shop with skyline in the background.  

Normally I would never take a photo of a new Starbucks but this one is significant for this area and at least if you get off the train in Charlotte you can walk to it.  Also a sign of a changing neighborhood with many apartments being built within a few blocks.

This is a significant change for this area.  Seems like 2023 will be the year that the NorthEnd \ N. Tryon Area really began opening up with sustained Development.  I dont think this is a surprise since SouthEnd lot prices have now graduated to mostly High Rise projects and Lower SouthEnd is flush with Midrise Construction.

I can imagine that Lower SouthEnd and Gold District would have easily developable lots from now until the early 2030s at the current pace.  NorthEnd could have developable lots from now until the 2040s making this area ripe for the next several Development Cycles.

Love this use of the creek. Charlotte could really use more water features wherever possible. Already missing an urban river (unless 277 gets converted) so need to add smaller features elsewhere. Really adds to the urban experience in my mind
