this is a great looking project and will fill the gap. Kettler is from the DC area and this project is a Charlotte or Raleigh like sized project.  It is great that it will be bringing more new people living in downtown Wilmington.

this is proposed for the opposite side of the river from downtown.  I still think this is a very ambitious project but boy would it be nice.

""New Hanover County planning officials will consider a new zoning district that could make way for a major development project on the west bank of the Cape Fear and Northeast Cape Fear rivers.  The riverside project is being called Battleship Point, a $500 million development in the planning stages by a local partnership, KFJ Development Group.  Battleship Point would be located on about 8 acres on Point Peter, a jut of land across the river from downtown Wilmington. Frank Pasquale of KFJ Development requested the text amendment for the new zoning type. Other partners in KFJ are Kirk Pugh of KBT Realty and Jim Lea III of Lea/Schultz Law.  The Battleship Point proposal calls for about 540 condos, 330 apartments, nearly 200,000 square feet of commercial space and a 76,000-square-foot luxury hotel. It also calls for buildings up to 240 feet, or 24 stories.  The proposed new district, Riverfront Urban Mixed-Use Zoning (RUMXZ), “combines concepts from the existing Riverfront Mixed Use Planned Development Zoning (RFMU), Urban Mixed-Use Zoning (UMXZ) and Planned Development (PD) districts,” according to agenda documents for the New Hanover County Planning Board’s meeting tonight. ""

New hotel proposed by the Battleship on Eagle Island other side of the river from downtown.  I am sure there is enough high land to build it on it but getting there sometimes would be underwater from what I have seen.

They did a brownfields agreement with the state already.

Not really downtown but the Star news reports on the latest efforts on developing Eagle Island (now referred to as “the West Bank” to sanitize it from its former industrial days). The obstacles to development remain the same, brownfield, no water, sewer and low (low, low!) elevations.

Saw these under construction.  This is the 4th new apartment complex by the river north of the Convention Center.  Kettler from DC is building the Metropolitan at the Riverwalk right next to the new amphitheater.

In the rendering on the fence you can see the 2 apartment complexes further north and Pier 33 apartments are south of this by the Marina village.

Miscellaneous photos of downtown Wilmington today and it was 75 and partly sunny while the rest of the state was much cooler and foggier. 

Repaving going on Front St with new curbs etc. near CFCC.   Federal courthouse renovation still going on downtown on Water St.  New pocket park on Front St almost done that connects to RiverPlace development.
