Just now, rolly said:

@rancenc That was a cool article. They talk about how a small part of downtown, in 1978 was just worth $30M for taxable income, but now is worth over $500M. From increased density of course.

And this great pic, with River Place under construction in the center...

This picture emphasizes the density in the downtown area!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like the scale of Pier 33. It's great mid-scale that helps connect PPD to the main downtown section. And I think this northern waterfront is PRIME for development of this scale. I just don't like that it somewhat cuts off the water from people not living there. It's a massive building, and if the boardwalk/water walkway is extended that far, it would be hard for people to access it unless they lived at P33.

Interested to see how that works out.

There seems to be places to walk just north of the Pier 33 where those restaurants and the new park will be and south of it by the convention center.  I am excited that downtown Wilmington is getting more residents which can only help the city and it helps attract people to the area. If someone could work at PPD in Raleigh or Wilmington why not chose the coastal city and live on the water?

Here is the story on this building and new Dallas based coworking space going in this renovation.  Great renovation and project for downtown.
