here is the sign for the latest Amazon warehouse off Sam Wilson near 485 and 85 interchange.  It says CLT9 which is interesting as I only count 7 Amazon facilities in the area 3 in Cabarrus and 4 in Mecklenburg unless there are 2 more I don't know about.  They usually name their centers like this as they have multiple locations in one metro.  I know they have an office in the Railyard but don't think they name their offices that way.

actually Atrium just proposed today to move 18 beds recently approved for main hospital to a new proposed Cornelius hospital.  You have to put beds near where people live and that is why all the suburban hospitals have grown greatly and new ones on the way like the Atrium Union West and the Novant Ballantyne hospitals.  We have a growing population all over intown and in the suburbs but you have to spread the hospital beds around somewhat.

Isn't outdated that Atrium and Novant have to seek state approval to build hospitals and add beds? Why all the rigamarol to add very needed services?

State law called a certificate of need so there are not too many hospital beds built then there is an oversupply.  some states like NC do this others do not.

Since Amazon warehouses are mostly around the 485 beltway or beyond this is interesting development.  Basically Amazon which developers have leased millions of square feet of warehouse space to (including a couple million sq ft in the Charlotte metro) now says they want to own their warehouses.  This approach is somewhat unusual but it sounds like now they buy land and build the warehouses.  This story mentions such an arrangement in Bessemer (City) in Gaston county which I was not even aware of.

Amazon recent leases include 1 M sq ft in Pineville,  2 locations in north Charlotte.  They have 4 warehouses near the airport, 3 in Cabarrus County, a new lease off Billy Graham.

Huge Childress Klein mixed used development mainly warehouse and industrial but retail and hotel and apartments as well off W Arrowood across from Top Golf.  And from the article they say they might have a major tenant wanting to be near the airport.

Drove by this the other day. Couldn't get any pictures but the site is basically totally clear now. A bit depressing actually as not a single tree remains and it is a HUGE field of dirt at this point.

For those considering end of year tax issues and general good feels I plan to donate to Trees Charlotte.

Mine of choice is Dogwood Alliance out of Asheville. Been fighting the good fight for decades. Lately, they're on to the biomass scam.

Sprawl at all cost.  Is anyone on this board really surprised?

the problem with this huge clear cut is the need for huge warehouses.  Don't buy from Amazon and that would be a start as they have been gobbling up more warehouse space than any other company.  People want something in hours yet there is a cost to that.   There is no cost effective way to build warehouses multistory (only a few in the country) but their ceiling heights have greatly increased which adds more volume.  New buildings have 40 foot ceilings vs. 22 just a decade ago.   But if you dont like big huge warehouse stopping buying online at places like Amazon.

Yep, and the "Amazon" effect pretty much forces other retailers to open up multiple warehouses as well. Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Macy's, CVS, HomeDepot, et... all need regional warehouses now in every decent sized city in the country in order to meet next-day delivery expectations of customers. Gone are the days of having a couple warehouses to serve the entire country with a 5 - 10 day delivery window. You now need to be in the heart of each metro area. Warehouse sprawl is just meeting consumer demand.... and Americans right now are buying A LOT of stuff. We love things and we love online shopping.
