If I were unfamiliar with Charlotte and I saw that picture, I would think that there is no highway right there.

It's funny because I was literally having this argument with someone at work the other day. I lamented about the massive deck at legacy and they said something to the effect of "they probably did it for the panthers so it's cheaper to park on gameday" *insert eye roll emoji here*

Big parking decks do NOT benefit the public, they only go to line pockets. Once the people of a city have been programmed to accept high parking rates they will question less why the number of decks has increased, but the cost has gone up. 

On a semi related note, if someone parked at the Whole Foods to go "shopping" and then went to the game, returning a few hours later to have lunch there, and then validated their ticket, could they hypothetically get two hours of parking free still? Or is the hourly rate jacked to where it wouldn't make sense to do this (because you'd be there more than two hours obviously)

I would not do that unless you really like to pay for parking. I once stayed about 2.5 hours and even with the validation it was like $5 for that half hour.  There is cheaper Panthers parking on surface lots and garages just a few more blocks away.

Skyline looks great tonight, driving north on S Tryon.  LU1, DEC and BofACC all in red white and blue.

The skyline also looks awesome coming in from Camden and Southend.  The city really feels like it includes Southend.  The buildings of LU have stretched the city to the point where it is hard to tell where Southend stops....that is until you see the massive valley known as 277.  

Really like the Deloitte building’s presence.

LU 1 keeps growing on me - although I have always been at least a lukewarm supporter. Not sure if i'll ever come fully around on the dunce cap, but with other buildings around it I think it will stand out nicely without being overbearing.

on a serious note I don't like everything on every project.  For example I think Ally at Tryon Place is great but their garage is huge too and has zero retail on the ground floor.  A big missed opportunity if you ask me.  Now I hear it will have screening so we will see.  Yes the Legacy garage is huge but it is lined with retail on 2 sides and blocked by the new Honeywell Tower on the 3rd side.  Leaving only the side facing 277 exposed and it is quite screened.

Really cool show on the BofA Tower Lobby TV......while waiting for the redlight on S Tryon, watched a lot of aerial shots of CLT. Not as good as Angry Birds, but definitely cool to watch while waiting in traffic.

^If you look closely at KJ's last pic, there is a teeny tiny "Now Open" banner on the mega parking garage.

At first I thought it was permanent signage, but no just a banner.

I freaking love tower cranes, for some reason they really signify to me that a project is rolling. Even though I obviously know that this tower has been for a few months now.

Two things.

The Curtainwall on DEC accentuates the cantilever more than it would by itself. 

The geometry of a shorter building allows for a more drastic looking cantilever.  If this building did that it would hit the Ally building besides breaking the laws of physics with its structure.
