MTSU's new science building is open for business. The student services building was also opened last spring including a walk way to the new student union building. Inside the student services building is also a food pantry open to all students with need. Here are some photos of MTSU and the city of Murfreesboro's new indoor tennis court arena currently under construction. The facility is located at Old Fort Park and will boast 8 new courts, lockerrooms, press, and concessions. https://www.dropbox.com/s/t5lfzx2lwjgfb9g/2014-10-20%2017.02.49.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/45frbnt0fxeev2f/2014-10-20%2017.02.54.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/arulwkzpcwyepf8/2014-10-20%2017.03.14.jpg?dl=0

Murfreesboro is developing a comprehensive plan for the city. I mentioned a few things about the plan last year. The new plan will continue to 2035 in efforts of identifying plans, projects, and citizen input for the entire city. More information is found here. http://www.dnj.com/story/news/local/2014/08/09/murfreesboro-officials-seek-input-comprehensive-plan-objectives/13852149/ http://www.2035newsletter.com/

^ Actually the Murfreesboro Cookout location was built from the ground up. However, all of this is great news for Cookeville, so much untapped potential. I wondered why it's taken developers this long to realize that it's the place people stop in between Nashville and Knoxville. There are strong demographics, incomes, a superb university and room for development.

What demographics are you referring to? Regarding size are you referring to population or the current number of skyscrapers? Nashville and Austin are nearly identical in size. Las Vegas is actually smaller in city population and slightly larger in metro population, so I don't understand what you mean here.

The apartments fall within the Gateway District which is zoned for commercial, retail, and residential development. Adjacent parcels along Thompson Lane, Robert Rose, and Wilkinson Pike areas near St. Thomas Rutherford are zoned for the Gateway Overlay District. The city planners have finally realized the need for mixed use development and have drafted several proposals for what the area is to become. Mixed use developments are present in the area such as the Avenues with the University of Phoenix (light office) and other businesses. Imagine developments like the Gateway Village (Thompson Lane) and Hill Center (Green Hills) just on a larger scale in the future surrounding the apartments. A new Big D theater and large apartment complex are proposed for the other side of Robert Rose just behind Peter D's restaurant. The area is really starting to take shape, however, there needs to be much more in terms of upscale retail and restaurants for the area to thrive.

There was an interesting article noting the many changes taking place in downtown Murfreesboro. The city's planning director noted the "many condo developers constucting buildings in Nashville call him every month wanting to know the possibilities of Murfreesboro's downtown area" (Broden, 2014). While the article is encouraging news toward the changing attitudes involving urban development, one look at the empty parking lots, metal buildings, used car lots and strip centers that boarder downtown still reflects the many changes that still need to occur before the area can reach its full potential. http://www.dnj.com/article/20140323/NEWS/303230038/Renovating-Downtown?nclick_check=1

Wilma Rudolf blvd. is seeing lots of new development. Toyota is building a brand new dealership near Governors Square Mall, a few fast food restaurants have been approved, and a hotel is also under construction. Governors Square Mall has also been given the green light for renovations.

I say Brentwood could learn from Murfreesboro. Just keep the project a secret, approve it in secret meetings, and start building it immediately. If you build it they will come...or leave in Brentwood's case. Aside from the sarcasm, I think the major issue besides traffic concerns posed by the NIMBYs is that they are uneducated in terms of new urban development and what the look and feel of the designs mean in current times. They have the notion that apartment and retail always means a suburban style complex with a huge parking lot and Dollar General Store in front (Antioch). They think the area will become crime ridden and ruin property values, as evidenced by what they experienced in the past; suburban style, poorly planned thoroughfares, that are eyesores today (Broad Street in Murfreesboro or Dickerson Pike in Nashville). When Tapestry and the Synergy Projects prove successful, then you may begin to see a change in the attitudes of the residents.

I never suggested it carried the same brands, but don't kid yourself about Nordstrom either. The one in Nashville is nice, but certainly not a Neiman's or even a flagship like what you will find in Seattle. There really is no reason to attack Belk and make it out to be "Wal-mart." By your pre-judgement I can confirm you've never visited a flagship Belk.

Key word "standard" Nordstrom and Saks. Trust me Nordstrom in Nashville carries dockers and clarks, those are certainly not high end.
