  1. Hopefully it will be Chipotle, so I can have somewhere to eat on the way to visit friends in Knoxville. Marshalls and American Eagle would do well in this market, too.
  2. MTSU announces Science building renovations. http://www.dnj.com/story/news/local/schools/mtsu/2015/07/21/mtsu-announces-renovation-plans-science-buildings/30477287/
  3. Murfreesboro 2035 Chapter 6 update. Consultants discuss land use, density, parks, and recreation.
  4. A large apartment complex, retail strip center, dentist office, and Tennessee Technology Center are under construction across from Nissan on the long vacant Smyrna Commons site. http://www.apartmentfinder.com/Tennessee/Smyrna-Apartments/Copperfield-Apartments?refer=FP42A http://www.tcatmurfreesboro.edu/new-tcat-nissan-training-center-ground-breaking-ceremony
  5. That will change very soon with the Cherry Lane Extension, Sulphur Springs Road Improvements, and the long anticipated Thompson Lane and Jefferson Pike widening projects. Phase Two of Cherry Lane extension has begun and will be completed over the next two years, including a new interchange with SR 840 and intersection with Broad Street. Sulphur Springs and Hanes Drive will also be widened to three lanes each with improvements to the Sulphur Springs interchange with SR 840. Jefferson Pike and Thompson are still in the design phase, so those projects will likely be completed in the early 2020s. I admit that Thompson Lane should have been first considering the amount of development and traffic already present, but the same tune continues to play in Murfreesboro, develop, then build the infrastructure last.
  6. MTSU/Murfreesboro's new indoor tennis facilities are mostly complete. A grand opening is scheduled for July 15, 2015.
  7. Flyer for new strip center next to Wal-Mart and Sonic on Fortress Blvd. Plans call for restaurant and retail. Already in the area are the new Toyota Dealership, General Motors Dealership and Exxon Station. http://www.investmentpartnersllc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Fortress-info-flyer.pdf Hardees will open a new location on South Church Street at the site of the former Yum Yum Donuts. Liquor Planet will also open soon across the street from Wal-Mart Super Center. No word on the Baker Storey McDonald Marketplace at Savannah Ridge site on South Church Street.
  8. That's the oldest trick in the book. When your rates go up, you threaten to leave for another company and the representative usually makes an exception to keep you there by adding a free month or reducing the price. Be careful with the direct deposit payment system via mobile devices. Always check your bank statement. They claimed that I never paid even though I signed up for the program. They tried to add late charges but told them I had recorded the conversation and got names of the representatives I talked to in the past, and they magically changed their minds.
  9. Near the Sonic Restaurant. Publix had plans for a store in that area as well but those plans have been put on hold, indefinitely. The Kroger manager told me the Lascassas store will become a Marketplace in the next few years.
  10. Three new Burger King Restaurants are under construction in Murfreesboro at New Salem Highway (99), Thompson Lane, and Lascassas Pike (96). An additional Burger King is also under construction in Smyrna at the Almaville Rd. exit.
  11. Mixed use development proposed for empty corner of Brentwood. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/real-estate/2015/05/developer-pursues-huge-mixed-use-development-in.html
  12. Engineers are making modifications to SR 96 by lengthening turn lanes into mall area shopping centers. This project is in conjunction with the new interchange under construction at Broad Street and Memorial Blvd. In the long-range plan for 2025, Old Fort Parkway will be increased from four to six lanes from Broad Street to Interstate 24. However, no timetable has been set for this future project. Several improvement projects are also listed on the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization website. http://www.dnj.com/story/opinion/2015/01/24/stump-scott-bridge-broad-project-adds-old-fort-parkway-lanes/22280303/ http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/sr1/ http://www.nashvillempo.org/docs/TIP/2014_2017/RutherfordCountyProjects.pdf
  13. The preservationists always complain after the fact, but made no effort to purchase or restore the property while it was still standing.
  14. Gresham Smith and Partners have released the initial rendering of Rutherford County's new judicial building to mixed reviews. http://www.dnj.com/story/news/local/2015/04/02/judicial-centers-design-questioned/70872010/
  15. Phase II has begun construction on East Main Village project. Plans call for 44 three story town homes fronting Middle Tennessee Boulevard. Construction stalled 8 years ago due to the recession but is back on track. https://www.facebook.com/RegentHomes/photos/a.588463597875818.1073741825.216387555083426/829933243728851/?type=1&theater
  16. "I'm really grateful that the city of Brentwood is not a high-density community, we're a high-quality community," said Mayor Betsy Crossley. "And I think tonight we're making an important decision to continue this not being a high-density community." LOL, the Antioch shade...ouch.
  17. Providence Station is moving forward in Mt. Juliet. The mixed use project will include a 100 room Courtyard by Marriott hotel and mix of office and retail space. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/real-estate/2015/03/near-providence-marketplace-new-mixed-use-project.html
  18. U.S. 231 will end up looking a lot like the U.S. 72 corridor in the Madison/Huntsville area, as many new restaurants and retail establishments have opened up in the past few years. It's mostly sprawl, but at least having options on all four nodes of the city will provide much needed relief from congestion on Old Fort Parkway. Medical Center Parkway is continuing to thrive with a new La-Z-Boy Gallery, Jonathan's Grill, Dollar General, and Wal-Mart coming soon, and will most likely see the most upscale dining options. Just announced today, Stones River Mall was sold to Sterling Organization, that has plans for new tenants. http://www.dnj.com/story/money/business/2015/03/11/stones-river-mall-sold/70144260/
  19. J. Alexander's would do very well in Murfreesboro. We really don't have any upscale restaurants with good food in town, at least one's that aren't overrated. Taziki's, Zoe's Kitchen, Chicken Salad Chick, Atlanta Bread, etc., more healthier options would be nice other than greasy chains. I heard that Yeah Burger! is coming to Nashville which would also be great to have here in town, somewhere near MTSU. Yeah Burger! is a lot like Burger Up but better (fast casual) with locally sourced grass fed beef, more gluten free options, and faster service. https://www.facebook.com/ybnashvillemidtown
  20. I thought so when they mentioned the bulk grains part. This is great news. Sprouts is a full service grocery store, and a much needed addition to Murfreesboro. They also mentioned at the planning commission that two high end restaurants will also be part of the site...interesting what "high end" will mean lol when they just approved a strip center to be anchored by Arby's across the street.
  21. I hope we don't either, but it is looking pretty empty inside the mall. I just walked in there last night and the only place that was somewhat busy was Dillard's and it is not even attached to the mall. I don't see Sear's being open another year, same goes for J.C. Penney. The mall needs better anchors and tenants to compete with the Avenues. A Macy's would be a welcome addition to the mall as well as a sporting goods store like Gander Mountain.
  22. Yeah it's definitely not an organic grocer lol. All the hype had me laughing. I am also surprised Nashville doesn't have any more locations either.
  23. It is a hybrid between Whole Foods and Trader Joes. They have all the same departments (meat, deli, bakery, etc.), but their stores are in an open format and typically not as large as Whole Foods. They are significantly less expensive than Whole Foods because they offer most of their items in bulk. No fancy shelves, snobs, or Hipster gimmicks. Just quality food and service that have been missing in Murfreesboro. I have petitioned all of the organic stores to come to Murfreesboro, and after reading the comments it sounds like Fresh Market is finally coming. Whole Foods and Trader Joes managers and reps told me they have no interest in Murfreesboro because our demographics don't meet the requirements. Fresh Market's hot bar and deli are very very good. Kroger better watch out.
