  1. I would like to see more development down N.Main also. I wonder how long before developments start to flourish?? It would be a better improvement for the area.
  2. Light rail would go well with Columbia. I can't believe Columbia hasn't taken a more serious approach on light rail usage. Especially when their goal by 2025 is to have a pop. over 600,000. And they think the traffic is out of control now. We should atleast have someone doing reasearch for future usage.
  3. Have anyone seen the new Bank Head Quarters downtown. I got a peek at it yesterday!! From Grey Stone bridge it makes the city skyline look incredible. Downtown looks so dense!! I use to complain about the height of our towers, but now since we have mutiple highrises, i think now taller towers would look better now than vs if we had them yrs ago.
  4. One that caught my eye is Pentagon City in Arlington,Va. I think the garage ideal might be getting at something. But the way Columbiana Mall is setup, it would be hard to construct something of that nature.Probally a mall in the future could use something like this. The only bad thing is you had to pay to park, and the fee goes up every hr.But not that much! The money could provide assistance for future developments for the mall or the area.
  5. In the paper today, the city OKs project that will add nearly 4,000 residences and parking spots downtown , and the city just annexed 200 acres on Garners Ferry Rd adding another additional1,200 to residences and more will be built. It's just so much development and building going on right now you can't keep up with it all!!
  6. i wonder at what point will cola really consider taking the light rail approach serious. Especially when were only one step behind Charlotte. I wonder will it be in the next 20yrs

It sound like the balling is starting to roll. This would create so much density in the downtown area. I can't wait to see the outcome.
  8. I read in the paper today that a new office village is planned for Irmo. I hear it's to be off St.Andrews and Lake Muarry Blvd.
  9. It also depends on what side of the city you live on. I hate driving all the way to Two Notch , it seems to take forever now a days. I like to go somewhere that i can get in and out without a hassle. Especially, since Christmas is approaching, everyone knows how bad the traffic gets around this time. So i'm just looking for something convienant
  10. I think Columbiana caters to women more than Columbia Place. Columbia Place do have a better variety of urban clothes. I think the most slept on store in Columbia is not in the malls but downtown. Lourie's have some on the best clothing in city. I wonder why People never caught on to Oxford and Louries, both stores keep trendy clothes that most big cities provide like Coogi. Oxford was the first store in the city to sell coogi back in like 99
  11. I drove down that area last month and it's coming along fine. It made me feel like i haven't been there in years. It just seems to take forever traveling from St.Andrews to Lower Richland. Hopefully we'll see more big development escpecially since that farmer sold all that land for development in front of Hot 103.9 radio station. I See that side of Columbia finally catching up with the rest of the city.

    CanalSide

Does anyone have any information on when the development for the Canal Side is suppose to start?
  13. That's great news, as this greenway ball keeps rolling I see the ideas are getting better. All this development is going to take columbia right off. I guess the government and city planners had to come up with some better ideals since the government has been under fire lately for not having a vision for the city and not producing. The downtown area is going to really look different in the next 15yrs, it's just too bad it didn't happen earlier. I can't wait to actually see the city i was born and raised in finally make it!!
  14. wow, one major city has a main st. besides the cities in s.c. there's homeless people in every city. i don't see atl, or d.c. police alot in the downtown areas. but the homeless don't need to be downtown. but i think we should loose the name main. sometime things are affiliated by the name, the name change is a new begginging
  15. i think main street needs a new name, to change the image, i heard somebody say it before. when i think of cities with the main downtown street called main st., i think of small towns. i can't name one thriving metropolitian city with there main street down town actuall called MAIN ST. i really feel that columbia* should loose the name main to a more vibrant name .
  16. i notice the ridership went up on the city buses, i think we should discontinue the use of trolley's until further needed. i read the paper and they planned on cutting back some hours on the weekend because of the gas issues but in away it has helped out because more people are using the city buses. i'm really glad that the buses have extended their services around the city. i couldn't understand for years why the buses never really crossed lexington county. this was a big step for the city of columbia, there is no other city in s.c. with more ridership than columbia! charleston even lost their bus system at one time, and greenville mine as well not even have a bus system, because i never see anyone on there. so that's a plus

that's a good idea, all of south carolina needs to be involved on whats going to take process in a couple of years. but it seems like most of the cities are competing with each other than working together
