It's about time. The ball is finally rolling:yahoo:
  2. With all the residential developments downtown.I wish a developer would buy the old underground downtown and turn it similar to atlanta's. With retail, dining, etc.
  3. It's kind of hard to say that because there are so many areas in columbia that dont get counted in the census. Area like west cola, forest acres, arcadia ,etc. West cola is 2 miles from downtown and there counted by themselves. The numbers might give a false sense of how big the city really is. Plus we need some competition!! We have had the crown for too long!!!!
  4. Have anybody heard the rumor that a cheesecake factory is coming to sandhills?
  5. This will spur more develpment on piney grove rd. It's alot of rural land with housing developments sprouting up on piney grove rd headed towards broad river. I'm glad something is going up to replace the badly burned lizard thicket building. 60,000 square ft is a pretty big sports warehouse.
  6. Charleston is also a known destination for tourist. What developer wouldn't try to squeeze money off of an tourist area. Charleston can really afford to say no, becaue the develpments are going to keep reocurring. But this is also the 2nd time a condo project has been scraped in this area. The first project was because of height which orignally had 4 towers with 13 floors , 2nd project had 4 towes with 8 floors. .
  7. seems as though the developer that planned the 4 condo tower has scrapped the plan due to the neighbors fighting the development. I don't blame the developer, this is the most ungrateful state I've ever seen in my life. Everyone wants the city to grow, but as soon as someone comes to invest money in the city everyone protests it. And they wonder why atl and charlotte are vibrant cities!!!! I can't city cities like Charlotte or Atl turning down the chance to have 4 condo towers near a lake that's a hidden jewel to the city. This state is truly backwards!!
  8. Looks like there at it again. A developer is planning 584-893 homes planned for Blythewood adjacent to the town hall....It would be one of the larger subdivisions in the Northeast Richland town. The Blythewood area is defintely picking up more momentum
  9. Great news!! But why are they moving the Inferno from downtown? It would be more acessible if it was in a downtown centralized location. But what ever work for them. I wonder what's going to replace the coliseum?
  10. If the city discourages that, then the city is defintely not trying to be a regional player in the new south movement. It has to be more than that.... I doubt the city would turn something like this down. Especially how hard everyone came down on the city for not progressing.
  11. maybe one day s.c. will see that the flag hurts us more than it helps us. Im tired of going out of state and when asked where i'm from the first thing people say is the state with the confederate flag on the state house!!! Even states with a more racist history down us for this!! This flag make our state seem pretty backwards. Like were still in the 1800's.
  12. I'm pretty sure it will include some kind of condo tower or cluster of midrises
  13. Hopefully in the future Cola can host some kind of bowl game or a college basket ball tournament. It would definetly gime cola great exposure

I feel the same way. Even though the building might not be the prettiest building it does alot for our skyline. I feel something atleast close in height should replace the previous building.
  15. i can agree with you, its definetly going to hurt the small buisnesses in the area. I wonder why so close and Harbinson Blvd is two exist down???
  16. i read that today also, im glad something is going up in the old target site. I think this would go well with the community.
  17. Go to the business section of the states paper. Or just go to www.thestate.com and click on the business section
  18. I read in today's paper that a group has begun promoting development of commuter rail service that would bring commuters from Newberry, Camden, Batesburg,Sumter and Leesville. A Newberry group has asked the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce to get behind the comuter rail movement. The council of governments feasibility study which should be completed in April, is looking 10 to 20yrs in the future for light rail/commuter car usage.
  19. Good News, the developer for the huge lake muarry condos is going forth with the development despite neighbors concern to build 4 residential towers on lake murarry.
  20. I agree, with high gas prices most people are trying to live and work in the same area. I think thats going to make the downtown and main st successful. Columbia definetly wont' have a high sprawl index. Columbias center core is experiencing significant growth, while other sc cities are experiencing surburan sprawl.
  21. Your right, I can agree columbia does get over looked in so many areas. But some way columbia always pop right back up. As far as other sc cities criticizing columbia thats natural to feel inferior to the biggest city in the state. Charleston might be more urban, greenville might be cleanier!! But the bottom line columbia is the biggest, and is the only city in sc that you get a big city vibe. By the time Charlotte really realizes whats 80miles south, it will be too late. Columbia can easy compete with Raleigh & Charlotte . Charlotte has a hard time keeping people there. Alot of people move to Charlotte, but will later move to atl because Charlotte wasn't big enough for them. I can easily see the most slept on city in the carolinas becoming the greatest city in the carolinas
  22. Company plans to build the state largest private film studio in Cayce!! There's a write up in the paper describing such. Builder descirbes plan for future film making
  23. Any predictions on when the development is to begin? Next 5-10yrs?
  24. That's great news!! A downtown with non stop activity shows a progressing city.Lately Cola has being taken progressive steps towards growth and development. By 2010 Cola is going to be a whole different city full of vibrancy.
  25. It's a plus for density!! Can't wait until we get a tower taller than South Trust that's not boxy. It will definetly bring out the skyline. I really want to see Columbia start a skyline south of Main St.Were a residential high rise is planned.Though it would be very difficult since much of usc's campus is located there . But it would be nice to stretch the city skyline similar to atl's skyline.
