  1. Railroad chief urges cooperation among cities If they expect to alleviate traffic congestion and resolve other problems, Hampton Roads cities must work more closely with one another, the chairman of Norfolk Southern Corp. told a business gathering Thursday
  2. I know, but you never can tell. We may have some outsider visit that may not understand our humor. This could be touchy subject for someone who's father was a fighter pilot that was killed in battle.
  3. To all out there, I'm only kidding around. This will be a wonderful monument honoring heroes who fight for our freedom.
  4. OR that same family of four in a nicely polished bronze U-HAUL.
  5. Oceana can't leave now VB has monument for them. LOL!
  6. MLB and Vegas are banking on tourists to fill the seats. Many people say we could never support a team because of our transient navy population, but what do they call the tourists in Vegas? I can live with that. And maybe one day we could lure an NBA team here. If they leave we still have a new arena to lure all the stuff you listed above.
  7. Good! Let MLB go screw another city out of millions. We've got towers an a LRT system to build. I was all for the Expos coming, but now I'm just over it. That ballpark in Miami was going to cost $420-$435 million...that's a lot of money. I don't feel any city/state should have to pony up that kind of $$$ to have MLB team in their city. Then in 5-10 years they'll be bi+ching about a "NEW" stadium or else they are going to relocate.
  8. Nothing big but... The significant increase in construction activity in downtown this year is expected to continue well into FY2006 based on ongoing as well as planned construction projects. This increase in construction activity has also resulted in a corresponding increase in requests for street and sidewalk closures. Currently, the City receives an average of 25 permit requests per month in the downtown area. The Department of Public Works has taken the following actions to facilitate the processing of permits: Assigning a construction inspector specifically for the downtown area; Meeting with the various utilities, including Dominion Virginia Power, Verizon, Cox and the City
  9. They continue to move closer to construction. Wal-Mart closed on 10/11/05 on the 37.9 acre piece of land for $12 million +. The roughly 210,000 sq. ft. building will occupy the parcels that used to be the MAACO building, Norfolk Multi-Service Cneter building, Farm Fresh HQ, & Rack & Sack Store, plus outparcel buildings occupied by Blockbuster & others.
  10. I didn't know that leveling Freemason and Fort Norfolk was part of the cruise ship proposal. Good pic, thanks.
  11. Wow, Portsmouth is sure trying to get their stuff together! DT Norfolk, DT Portsmouth, Fort Norfolk all under construction...and a train running right through it. Man, it's going to be a beautiful sight.
  12. It's still alive!! Granby's "restaurant row" is spreading to Monticello. The Welton
  13. Hey guys, Is this new? Link
  14. Well, in that article it stated that it would take at least 18 months before construction started. I think the article came out in the summer so we are still in good shape.
  15. Hopefully by then construction will have started on the Kotarides tower, Brambleton tower, and who knows what other tower.
  16. Me either. I can't even find it on WAVY and that's where I heard it. Actually I first heard it of FOX43 at 10, but can't seem to find it anywhere.
  17. BIG NEWS! Mayor Fraim is planning a news conference today to speak about the LRT project. Norfolk just purchased the Norfolk Southern rail line for $3 million +. Norfolk now owns the roughly 5 mile line, which will make way for the LRT system. Construction is to start by '07!!
  18. That is one building that I hope I never have to visit. Though, I wouldn't mind going to the top floor to snap some skyline pictures from the waiting areas. Good find.
  19. I know this off the subject that you all have going here but... Site of the Dockside Inn & Lynnhaven Seafood Market & Marina was listed during the week of 11/07/05 for sale at $6.5 million. The site has already attracted 4 offers, some above asking price. Each prospective buyer plans high-rise condominium development. The buyer will have to buy out the restaurant & marina's lease. The site is across the street from the former Duck Inn, which is also going to be replaced with condominiums very soon. Just thought I would pass this little bit of info. out if you didn't already know.
  20. That's not the MSA. That's the CMSA, which I and many others feel is not very accurate. Their true metro population (MSA) is between 1.4-1.5 million. The CMSA does make metros sound bigger than they really are, so people will be more than happy to use that number.
  21. ...or Charlotte (1.4-1.5 mill) which is one of the cities said to be in "talks" with the Marlins.
  22. Over at SSP there is thread that says Charlotte, Vegas, and Portland are in talks with the Marlins. Why is Norfolk not in talks with this team? Have our guys just give up?
  23. This is similar to what Norfolk is planning. (Houston's METRO)
