  1. From what I've read Trader Joe's is cheaper. TJ's has a pirate theme with food signs written on wooden planks. The manager is referred to as the captain and the assistant manager's is the first mate. The Whole Foods design is clean and cheerful, modern but designed to not intimidate. Whole Foods is probably like Fresh Market on Laskin. I've never been to WF or TJ's so I'm only going on what I've read.
  2. Yeah, you would think that they would keep it updated daily. They should have a job just for that, call it Telecommunications Redevelopment Update Engineer or T.R.U.E. for short.
  3. Are these new? The Millenium Hotel Bodie Noell Restaurant Complex They are on the last page of the PDF.
  4. Haha, I was waiting for that scary chic that's in all the "turn up the volume to hear videos". I'm always really hesitant when someone tells me to crank up your speakers to hear something. It's must be my machine too!
  5. Sorry I posted the SoNo development PDF here in error...it has been moved.
  6. ...in late breaking news Grace Sherwood could not be reached for comment. Maybe we could get Montel & Sylvia on the case?
  7. Most of these types of developments are no different than strip malls. They just spin the buildings so that they face each other so that it doesn't look like a strip mall. The office component that these developers like to throw in there usually turns out to bank branches, State Farm, and Jackson Hewitt or something like that. The retail will be pretty much the same as you'll find in any other strip type shopping center in the metro. Sure, they will probably pull in a few new named stores, but in general it will be the same old song and dance.
  8. Median income for a household in the Virginia Beach is $48,705 Birmingham $26,735 Knoxville $34,055 Memphis $32,285 Louisville $19,883 Pittsburgh $28,588 Norfolk $31,815
  9. So they are telling us that there is more of a demand for $1000 suits in Knoxville, Memphis, Louisville, and Birmingham than there is here? The article also didn't tell you that Pittsburgh already has a regular retail store in it's airport.

Now just imagine the in your face factor the combination of Harbor's Edge and the 24-25 story Ghent South Towers will present. You're right though it is a massive building and it's hard to capture that in pictures. You just have to see it in person. I have a feeling that Harbor Heights will have the same effect.
  11. If they add a few more zero's to that $94,000 figure we may actually get a train thats works. Trust me, 94K is just pocket change when it comes to maglev. We will have many more articles in the future about more money being dished out to make this project work.

Man i wish those tower cranes to the left had more to do with construction and less to do with ship repair. But I do understand where those cranes are in relation to DT and that just wouldn't be possible. Vdogg, you did a great job at finding high points in the city to get good pics. of DT. That's the problem with our area, we don't have any hills so it makes it hard to get pictures of DT from a far. thanks!

    Those pics are great vdogg.
  14. I don't think New England Transplant was commenting on my post. He was asking JWCJ where he got that 100K live in Norfolk comment. Yeah, it only has a few more people. JWCJ Huh, Norfolk does need some more street level (non-mall) retail, but more restaurants is not what we need. DT has more than enough new restaurants.
  15. 100,000?? Maybe he's talking about Portsmouth.
  16. Ahh, Jacks Quinns got to see the power of their customers first hand. I can't feel sorry for them because they did it to themselves.
  17. I don't see a garage and the website doesn't mention anything about a parking garage.
  18. Can you feel the regionalism?
  19. What's funny is that you can leave VB and enter Ches. and not even know it. In other words it already looks like Va. Beach.
  20. Yeah, but it's not the largest in the U.S. Just joking, I'm just glad that the mall is doing better. I hope that they can lure some more retailers DT that are new to the metro.
  21. If you just need to see T & A just type in www.(insert dirty word).com instead of www.urbanplanet.org. That should help feed your "adult entertainment" hunger. *Wanna go downtown for dinner?* *Sure, but where?* *Well, Empire Bistro, Fahrenheit, Flaming Hole, 456 Fish, Havana's, Three Fingers, and Lewinsky's are my favorites.* Note: Three of these places do not exist and DT Norfolk is doing just fine without this type of entertainment.
  22. This part of an article for the NY Daily News. The fire chief of Charlotte, N.C., admits his city doesn't have any national monuments in danger of being bombed. And a spokesman for Omaha is "not aware" of a single credible threat against his municipality since 9/11. Here's how some cities are faring under the new budget: Jacksonville, Fla. 2005 funds: $6.8 million. 2006 funds: $9.2 million. Increase: 26%. Major landmark: Alltel Stadium, home of Jacksonville Jaguars. St. Louis; 2005 funds: $7 million. 2006 funds: $9.2 million. Increase: 23.6%. Major landmark: Gateway Arch. Louisville, Ky.; 2005 funds: $5 million. 2006 funds: $8.5 million. Increase: 41.2%. Major landmark: Churchill Downs race track. Omaha 2005 funds: $5.1 million. 2006 funds: $8.3 million. Increase: 38.2%. Major landmark: Offutt Air Force Base.
