A few more top-10 teams lose today, with #9 USC losing to #5 Oregon and #9 FLorida losing to #20 Georgia. USF dropped its second in a row, to a (apparently) very good UConn team. Other surprises are #14 Kentucky getting beaten soundly by Mississippi State, #6 West Virginia took #25 Rutgers to the cleaners. I figured West Virginia would win, but not by that much.

Lots of big games this weekend...my predictions: Florida over Georgia USC over Oregon Ohio State over Penn State USF over UConn Texas A&M over Kansas Tennessee over So.Carolina Cal over Arizona State
  3. I think it looks better than the old one too. I do like the roof, and the signage. The rest of the building is very "blah." I was just wondering the other day when we were gonna see a design of this thing.

Unbelievable the number of highly-ranked opponents falling this season! Its gotten to the point where its not even that surprising any more. Its becoming increasingly clear that at least one, if not both, of the teams who play for the title this year will have one loss. The field is about as wide-open as it could possibly get! Richyb83, I don't think Ohio State would have survived to this point against an SEC schedule. I don't think they would survive this year against a Pac-10 schedule, either. The Big 10 is definitely having a down year, and Ohio State has played almost no one up until now. The second half of their schedule should get a little tougher, with games against Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. However, only one of those teams (Michigan) is ranked, and they are only #24. I actually think that this weekend's game with Michigan State has "upset" written all over it.. (and I use the term "upset" loosely) Predictions for this week (if its even worth trying any more...): Florida over Kentucky Texas Tech over Mizzou LSU over Auburn Michigan over Illinois USC over Notre Dame And..another big upset: Michigan State over Ohio State

In the case of Kentucky, yes they only lost once to S Carolina, but they aren't a traditional college football power, so they dont get the benefit of the doubt that Ohio St or LSU gets. Is it fair? No, probably not. I think Kentucky is going to lose once or twice more this year anyways. Heck, Arizona State hasn't lost to anybody and they can't even crack the top ten (yet).

No. I think a close win over a good team is much better than a blowout over a lousy team.

Nebraska canned their AD today after a second blowout at home to Oklahoma State. I'll bet Callahan and the rest of the coaching staff is next...

How about Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson?!? 224 yards rushing, three TDs (67, 73 and 35 yards), and a 53-yd kickoff return in the 4th to set up the game-winning FG against the Bears. Incredible!

Here is what my ballot would look like if I were a voter: 1. Ohio State 2. LSU 3. S Florida 4. BC 5. Oregon 6. Oklahoma 7. Cal 8. W Virginia 9. S Carolina 10. Kentucky I don't think LSU should drop too far, seeing as it was a 3-OT loss on the road to a quality opponent. And, if LSU played BC, Ohio State, or Cal next week, my money would still be on LSU. Ohio State is #1 only by default, as they have played no one this year. USC has no business being in the top ten any more, seeing how they barely held off a lousy Arizona team. Their offense is just pitiful right now. This year is just screaming for a playoff system.

Another crazy weekend! LSU falls to #19 Kentucky 43-37 in 3 OT, what a game! #18 Illinois #19 Wisconsin also fall to unranked opponents. #2 Cal is also currently trailing to unranked Oregon State... could we get yet another top-5 loss?? Freshman Joe McKnight finally showed up to play for USC, with a 45-yard punt return and a 59 yard run in the 4th quarter. Arizona punter had an 83 yard punt, from his own 16 down to the USC 1!

Technically, are the Universities of Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana all private? I always thought the public schools had the word "state" in the name.

Very interesting ohioian! I always assumed ND was a bunch of snobs or something . One benefit that ND would enjoy if they joined a conference is that they could play non-conference cupcake games for the first three games of the year like everyone else does. Who did they have to start against this year? Ga Tech, Penn St and Michigan. Yeesh. Granted, that might not fix anything this year, but at least they would have a few more wins.

I always assumed it would be the Big Ten too. Geographically it makes sense, and the already have annual games with Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State and sometimes Purdue. I assume they stay as an independent because their alumni and boosters don't want them to join a conference, and I suppose if they joined the Big Ten it would mean that they couldn't play some of their current annual opponents, like USC, UCLA, or Boston College. Plus, its probably easier for them to get into a BCS bowl as an independent with an at-large bid. If they were in the Big Ten, last year they would have finished 4th behind Ohio St, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Not to mention that fat NBC contract that would disappear...

No, probably not. They haven't even gotten to the tough part of their schedule yet, and all those games are on the road, so I'd be surprised if they still manage to win the Pac-10 this year. Heck, at this point, I'd be surprised if they finish the year with just two losses. USC's loss isn't different from any other upset this year, except for maybe the most embarrassing. But until they lose once or twice again, they will get the benefit of the doubt from the voters; they probably think USC is better than they are. IMO, USC needs to put on a complete clinic and beat Arizona by about 60 points this weekend if they want to gain back some of that respect.

I gotta stick up for my team a little bit here. I agree that USC should have fallen at least ten spots, probably more like 15, but it really doesn't matter for them at this point. If USC wins all the rest of their games and finishes 11-1 they will be right back in the top 5 because not many teams finish with only one loss most years. The number of spots they dropped (or should have dropped) this week won't matter, because they will have proven themselves as a good team since this loss for that to happen, they would have beaten everyone else on their schedule and won the Pac-10. I don't think there is some conspiracy or that USC was only dropped to #10 because its business or economics. I think the voters believe that loss to lowly Stanford was a fluke, and USC will rebound to contend for the title again, just like they did last year after losing to unranked Oregon St (until they blew it against UCLA). Personally, I don't see how USC is going to survive the rest of their schedule anyways, so Cal will probably get the BCS birth while USC will go to some other game, unless they get an at-large bid.

I think USC should have fallen to somewhere between 10 and 15. What I don't know is if is the beginning of a crappy 4-loss season, or if they will bounce back and have another 10 or 11 win season. Remeber, last year they lost to unranked Oregon St and UCLA, but they beat Cal, ND, and a pretty good Michigan team in the Rose Bowl. That being said, I dont know how they are going to survive against Cal, Arizona State, Oregon and UCLA this year. This was supposed to be the easy part! As for the bias, I think that exists only because USC has been so dominant for the last five years, not because its "Hollywood" If Florida or LSU were #1 or 2 and lost to a crappy unranked conference opponent, I don't think they would fall past #10-16 either. And if LSU had lost that game to Florida by the same 4 point margin, I think they only would have dropped to #5 or so, IMO. Michigan dropped so far because there were doubts about the whole Big 10 after the last year's BCS, it was the first game of the year, and ASU was 1-AA. The FL-LSU game was excellent! I think Florida played a better game for the most part, but LSU got it together at the end and got it done.

USC actually lost AT HOME to the Pac-10 laughing stock, Stanford. Forget Appalachian State beating Michigan, THIS is the upset of the year. Unbelievable. What a disaster. I am completely appalled.

This is really shaping up to be a strange year! There have already been so many surprises, and this week we got even more, with Illinois beating #5 Wisconsin, #24 Kansas St losing to Kansas (although that isn't all that surprising), and Tennessee is just manhandling #12 Georgia. The result of the big LSU-Florida game is going to give us a surprise either way...either LSU losing or Florida dropping 2 in a row. Both would be pretty unsusal, but one of them has to happen! Should be a classic! It looks like Michigan State has started their annual mid-season meltdown, losing to a lousy Northwestern team in OT. Michigan won again with RB Mike Hart breaking the school rushing record and piling up 215 yards and 3 TDs!
  21. Oy. So what's wrong with having two of the same type of store? Competition, it does wonders...Maybe they should give that a whirl. I thought the downtown improvement district were the folks concerning themselves with trash and flowers. (they have some kind of board, don't they?) I don't think those types of banners would be a good fit DT. Too small-towny IMHO

At this point, I don't know if we are going to have anyone finish the year undefeated. LSU and USC are probably the most likely to do so, but they both face major challenges ahead. LSU still has #9 Florida, #8 Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama and Arkansas to contend with, although several of those are at home. USC has to deal with #3 Cal, #14 Oregon, #18 Arizona St and UCLA, all except UCLA on the road. I think a lot will get sorted out this weekend with OU-Texas, Florida-LSU and others. Ohioian, IMO the the pre-season polls don't hurt too much. Any BCS conference team who beats everyone will be in the top 5 at the end of the year, probably in the top 2, since most years not more than two teams run the table. Where it really gets tricky is when a whole slew of teams lose once, as we saw last year. I would like to see an 8 team playoff with the 6 conference champions and next two highest ranked schools. Cincy might be this years Rutgers and Hawaii might be the 2007 version of Boise St.
