  1. And now its time for the the latest installment from Torgo's Free Advice Network! If you live near a park or some other undeveloped area, be sure to close your garage before it gets dark, and keep the windows in your car rolled up. That way, a rogue raccoon can't spend the entire night trashing your garage, scratching the aforementioned car all to hell, and then taking a dump on the roof. This has been the latest installment from Torgo's Free Advice Network.

I'd guess that the top three now have to be USC, LSU, and Cal... then what? Wisconsin? This is why I love college football! USC almost beat themselves with three turnovers and 16 penalties!

Wow, Tulane is giving LSU all they can handle so far! LSU is playing terrible and only leads 10-9 at the half edit: nevermind...

I like Cincinnati too, if for no other reason than their coach Brian Kelly was formerly the head coach at my alma matter and led them to a National Championship. I expect good things from this team. Picks for this week: Cal over Oregon - This could be a really good game. Both Cal and Oregon are ranked in the top 15 and have crazy speed. Could be the best game of the week! Cal by a TD. West Virginia over S Florida. The WVU offense of White, Slaton and freshman Noel Devine is scary good. WVU by 14, maybe more. Florida over Auburn - Auburn won't be able to contain Florida's offense. Will anyone in the SEC be able to do that? LSU maybe, but that might be it. Florida by 2 TDs. USC over Washington - USC almost lost to the Huskies last year, but I don't think that will be the case this time around. USC has way too many weapons and a excellent front 7. USC by 30. LSU over Tulane - Will Tulane even manage to score at all against LSU's ridiculous defense? Maybe against the third stringers in garbage time. I'm guessing the final score will be something like 55-0.

Florida looked more vulnerable than LSU did this past weekend, but I think that game (UF-LSU) will be a great one. I still think LSU will win if they can contain Florida QB Tebow. I am kind of on the fence regarding the extra game in the Pac-10. Unlike most (if not all) the other conferences, everyone plays everyone in the Pac-10, so there isn't really a need for one. However, it would make sense to have all the BCS conferences play a championship game, just so its even and teams are playing the same number of games. Michigan definitely has a chance to win the Big 10, because no one in the Big 10 runs the spread offense. I think they are definitely good enough to beat everyone in their conference, but as we saw in weeks one or two, if they play someone who effectively runs a pass-happy, speed-oriented offense (Oregon, USC, FLorida, etc), then they are doomed. Michigan (and the rest of the Big Ten) needs to realize that you can't win by running the ball down everyone's throat. If Nebraska can barely beat Wake Forest, Ball St then they aren't that good. They won't contend for the Big 12 title unless they improve a LOT. If they played Oklahoma tomorrow they would get murdered.

Predictions for this week: - LSU over South Carolina. LSU is fortunate enough to be playing most of their big games at home this year, and they are probably going to dominate everyone (except maybe Fla) in Baton Rouge this year. LSU by 20. - Alabama over Georgia. Alabama is having a good year, and I don't think they'll lose to Georgia at home. Alabama by 10. - USC over Washington St. USC has won 34 in a row at coliseum. I don't see that changing anytime soon, especially against Washington State. USC by 30. - Michigan over Penn St. Penn State's 3 wins were against Florida International(SI Power Ranking #118), Notre Dame (#75), and Buffalo(#106). UM by 7. - Arkansas over Kentucky. Just a hunch. Arkansas by 10.
  7. Nice job! You shoulda said "you can use it, only if you give the fine folks at UP-GR a plus in your speech"

I think a big reason USC is #1 is because they started out #1, and the voters aren't going to demote them since they have posted 2 lopsided wins. The points the USC defense has given up are a little misleading if you ask me, because the starters only gave up 3 to Idaho and 17 of Nebraska (USC was up 49-17 at one point). Everything else came against the reserves. The stats aren't as eye-popping as LSU's, but they are getting the job done. The USC D seems to spend the first half looking rather ordinary, only to come out and dominate in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Both LSU and USC have a slew of tough games ahead. Right now, I'd say LSU has a better chance of running the table, mostly because their big games are at home, whereas USC has to play them all (most notably Cal and Oregon) on the road. Florida vs LSU could be a great game. Both teams have great offenses, but LSU's D is absolutely suffocating, and that should give them the edge.

    - USC had a good win over Nebraska. Their passing game still needs to get on track.. and when it does they are going to be very tough. - Florida big over Tennessee! (told ya tennbear ) - How bad is ND this year? Through three games, the offense has scored exactly zero touchdowns, gained -14 yards rushing, and have been outscored 102-13. I can't see them winning more than two or three games. I think the top 5 will stay pretty much the same, but you could make a case for any of them at #1, since all but West Virginia has an impressive win over a good team thusfar (Fla over Tenn, USC over Neb, LSU over Va Tech, Oklahoma over Miami)

My picks for this week (with commentary! Good idea tennbear ) USC over Nebraska. USC needs a better day from its offense than we saw 2 weeks ago to keep their #1 ranking. As much as I hate to say it, this one has upset written all over it. Nebraska is taking on the #1 team, in Nebraska, they lost to USC last year, national TV audience, and want to show everyone that they are a national power again. I expect the Huskers to bring their A game. USC better do the same. USC by 10. Florida over Tennessee. For some reason, I don't think this one will be that close. I see Florida winning this one by at least 20. Louisville over Kentucky. Louisville QB Brian Brohm will out-pass pretty much anyone (except maybe Colt Brennan). But they better shore up their defense if they want to stay in the picture after they gave up all those points to Mid Tenn St. Michigan over ND. The biggest variable is Michigan playing without QB Chad Henne. Homefield advantage doesn't apparently do much to motivate Michigan, but the ND rivalry will. Of course, ND got clobbered by UM last year, so they ND will have a chip on their shoulder. However, ND is really lousy this year. Michigan is only moderately lousy. I expect 200+ yards from Michigan RB Mike Hart. Washington over Ohio State. It seems that OSU has been disappointing this year so far, and I see the Pac-10 stepping up and knocking off another Big Ten team (although probably not as convincingly as Oregon beat Michigan last week). This one will be close, margin of victory will be less than 5 points.

LSU siphoned a bunch of #1 votes off of USC this week with their beatdown of Va Tech. Hopefully USC will get those back with a beating of Nebraska this weekend! So who does everyone think is going to win the Disappointment Bowl when Michigan takes on ND this weekend? I predict Michigan. AP Top 25: 1. USC (40) 2. LSU (25) 3. Oklahoma 4. West Virginia 5. Florida 6. Texas 7. Wisconsin 8. California 9. Louisville 10. Ohio State 11. UCLA 12. Penn State 13. Rutgers 14. Nebraska 15. Georgia Tech 16. Arkansas 17. South Carolina 18. Virginia Tech 19. Well, Michigan has fallen out of the AP and coaches top 25, which is not surprising. I agree jungletobacco, Georgia looked pretty darn good. They will cause some problems in the SEC this season. They are at #11 this week. Did anyone see Cal's DeSean Jackson run that punt back against Tennessee? Incredible! That guy has got to be one of the most dangerous big-play guys in the country! AP 1. Southern Cal (59) 2. LSU (5) 3. West Virginia (1) 4. Florida 5. Oklahoma 5. Wisconsin 7. Texas 8. Louisville 9. Virginia Tech 10. California Coaches 1 USC (49) 2 LSU (4) 3 Florida (7) 4 West Virginia 5 Wisconsin 6 Oklahoma 7 Texas 8 Louisville 9 Virginia Tech 10 California

A Division I-AA team has never beaten a I-A opponent ranked in the top 25 until today. Personally, I think Michigan should fall completely out of the top 25, but I would think they would fall to around #20.

  20. Exactly! If downtown had been this way for the last twenty years, then this guy's letter would have more merit. Someone else mentioned that we are going through a transformation. "Rich people" are often viewed as a good place to start when trying to revitalize the central city. Just because DT is a certain way now, it doesn't mean that is what it is going to be forever, or that is what the city wants its downtown to be.
  21. Possibly, but participants would have to pay for all that land somehow. The windfarm referenced above results in about a half-acre of windfarm land per household, plus the costs of building and running the thing would be added on. I don't know if that would be too expensive for not, but its worth taking into account. I dont think windfarms are realistic on any large scale, but in small towns it might be feasible, and contribute to a piece of the overall "sustainability" puzzle.
