  1. i'm hoping i come back from CA to a new laptop... i doubt it'd happen, but that's how i ended up with this one... got back from OH last june and my boss had a nice new laptop for me. i wonder if ipods come with laptops purchased by businesses.
  2. i got my license 32 days after i had gone to DMV... so i had the real license for this trip.
  3. 12 MB is enough if you have a 1 MP camera. i have a 4 MP camera and a 64 MB card. i wish i had more, but i don't take a whole lot of pictures, so i can deal. the only problem i'll have is while i'm out here in CA. I brought my USB cable just in case i need to offload some pics.
  4. 3 hour time differences suck! i'm starving because it's supposed to be dinner time, but it's only 4:00 here in CA. i've been awake since 6am EDT, and the last time i ate was at 10:30 CDT (unless you count the pretzels on the plane that i had at like 1:00 CDT). and UCSD has nothing within walking distance! talk about sprawl (something i noticed coming into SAN). it's really pretty out here, but it's sprawl hell.
  5. so now that you've posted a photo... what is it a photo of?
  6. i find it amusing that you're the king of finding old threads, but you couldn't find that one...
  7. you have to link to the picture. there's a button above the reply box that looks like a green arrow with a + next to it. it's just to the right of the smiley drop down.
  8. looks like it's going about as well as your thayer st boycott...
  9. i had gone to lake compounce a long time ago when i was a kid. i saw the beach boys and the moody blues there. it used to be owned by hershey. i believe it's the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the country. they opened it for a couple weekends a year to keep that status when they were going through serious financial trouble.
  10. i didn't realize it was a lie or a rumor based on where i heard it. my apologies to you and councilman lombardi. he's still a terrible speaker and seems to be one of those classic RI type politicians (though certainly not sassy).
  11. i don't have as much of a problem with ATM/credit cards coming by mail because you have to activate them, which requires either making the call from the phone number that's registered with teh bank or using it at an ATM and entering the PIN. driver's licenses are automatically active. i imagine there might be a some sort of market for stolen licenses. how much money can it save having them do it this way? i think it's a really outdated and ridiculous way to do things. unfortunately, i don't know what i'm going to do now because i am beginning to assume that i won't have my license before i fly to CA next friday. they said i can have it taken again free of charge (free if my 1.5 hours sitting in DMV waiting is worthless). and even still, i won't have the actual license for when i'm in CA, meaning i may not be able to drink or buy beer while i'm there (both part of my planned activities, as CA beer is supposedly really good, though i can't buy it here in RI) because they may not accept this stupid temporary paper license. i doubt i'll get a response back from anyone that i emailed about this matter, but i felt that i needed to complain to someone.
  12. i've heard lombardi (yes, the councilman) has a house in federal hill that he stops by once in a while, but spends most of his time in his house in cranston. UP is the site of conspiracies (jen, you there?). i think hearing about this theory could be good to get us to band together to help prevent it.
  13. would you care to divulge some more information to those of us who are not "in" on this news? if you're talking about paolino and cianci, i don't think there's a whole lot to worry about with either becoming mayor again (not to mention, cianci no longer lives in providence, of course either does lombardi, or so i've heard). and for some reason, i wanna say paolino lives in cranston now, but i could be wrong. so what is this consolidation of power you're talking about?
  14. so in my continuing (unfortunately) saga with DMV, it has been 30 days and i still have yet to receive my license. they told me to call back this afternoon or tomorrow because their mail comes later on. it hasn't been returned to them, but there's no reason it should be as my address is correct on my license. i am really pissed about this. i sent an email to my state rep, senator, the governor, the lt governor, and the assistant director of DMV regarding this issue and how stupid it is (not to mention that it's a bit insecure in that anyone can get into my mailbox and steal my license, while if they printed it out while i wait and they hand it to me, i control the security of it).
  15. then who, if you don't mind me asking since you're being kind of coy about it, were you referring to. you specifically said that the race for mayor got interesting. one would only assume, following the recent discussion that you were referring to cianci.
  16. i doubt cianci would run for mayor again. there's also that thing that was on the ballot last november about mayoral term limits. depending on how that comes into play, cianci may not be able to run (and either will cicilline). however, i don't know if it would include current or former mayors, or if it even passed (i think i remember it passing though).
  17. i'm not overly worried. cicilline seems to be doing a halfway decent job at trying to rid the city government of cianci's old cronies. and carcieri is so pissed about the budget problems that he's planning on laying off 1000 employees, freezing state salaries, and increasing the percentage that state employees pay towards health care premiums (do they actually pay something now?). unfortunately, he can't fire the union employees. that would easily take care of a ton of problems. it'd be nice if the state and city could work completely union-free. i'm not carcieri fan, but maybe this will kick the general assembly a bit and get them to do something about all the social services (not that i have a problem with social spending, but there's a bit too much here) and get them to spend money on things that will actually help the state economically (like mass transit).
  18. there's lots of private car services... my fiancee had one bring her back and forth between philly and providence a few times after she broke her ankle. she didn't pay for it of course, but there was no way she could get through the airport with luggage all by herself on crutches.
  19. does he actually have to come to providence to be a marketing person? i'm wondering if he's just going to stay there and work from where he is.
  20. probably south attleboro... it's right over the border and parking is cheaper there than providence station.
  21. so i guess he'll be able to spin the 903 as being this totally awesome place to live... after all... they have a jacuzzi. btw- is it just me or does his cigarette look like a joint?
