  1. Well said Rescue, a few months ago I found the 1995 NFL study of Orlando and I posted some of the results on here. One thing that had them concerned was the amount of people that work (or were projected to work) in the service industries. Thus working Nights and Weekends.
  2. That's why I said "dare I say" I think the NFL in LA would lead to a lot of stipulations and probably won't happen. The difference with the location you cite with the other teams is the fact that they were established NFL markets. After the Colts darted from Baltimore, the city never really accepted the Redskins as a team. I won't say Orlando WON'T ever get an NFL team, but 15-20% of Bucs season ticket holders live in the Orlando TV market, and the market draws ratings for the Bucs comparable to Tampa. I seriously doubt the Glazers (Bucs Owners) and the fraternity that is NFL owners (they're very very close knit) approve a team in Orlando without some type of huge reprecussion deal.
  3. It's a nice TV market, but the market gets high ratings for the Bucs games. And while they could put a team here and it could do decent, the NFL would much rather have teams in cities without high ratings for a local team. LA, Portland, San Antonio, and dare I say Vegas are all much more attractive markets as a result.
  4. Won't ever happen. They are extremely successful in Tampa and their stadium deal requires them to play every home game there, including preseason to help make pay the financing.
  5. I don't think Kimmel in Philly is that bad. There are a few others out there that aren't architechural masterpieces, but there are some that are very nice and could complement Orlando well.
  6. Sunshine, the final cost of the Miami PAC will be around $500 Million dollars and it's ugly, its already been said that the White design will darken over time and require extensive cleaning annually. It's a building that in 20 years people are going to say that is so 2000s. To build an architechural icon you have to sink in Millions of dollars to get a quality architecht who can create a design that will transend the times. I don't want some mishapen building that might be a cool design today but in 20 years is a "What the hell were they thinking" idea. I'm more concerned with getting the inside done, the acoustics, the layout. The artwork on the walls. Etc. If that means the outside is not some glamourous design...so be it. The outside design is not going to discourage people from attending and anyone who makes that argument. As for the Kimmel Center, the problem wasn't the design of the outside, it was the inside. The main Orchestra Hall literally rattled when music was being played. It led to the architect (forget who it is but he's one of the top in the world), to be sued by the city for the difference to fix the problem I seriously doubt the arena will be some iconic venue on the outside either. I think both the PAC and the Arena will get it right on the inside which is all that really matters.
  7. Sunshine, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but we don't have the money to build this great architectural icon. People aren't coming to Orlando to go to the performing arts center, nor will it ever be the focus of a major production. The reality is that it will be a very nice and much needed venue that those in the community can embrace. I'm excited for the prospects and not going to down the project because it's not breaking the bank on design. In reality it's the inside that matters in the long run.
  8. I think there may be a stunning plan for the stadium beyond the limited events they have currently. We'll find out Aug 29.
  9. On Orbitz I believe they have their own hotel rankings. You have to remember hotels pay them money to get you to stay at their places.

    SunRail

I've voice it in the past and I believe it now, Orlando currently is not a city with a central base of infrastructure. You have the areas to the north of the city, the areas downtown, and the areas by the attractions. Building a GOOD light rail will be very very tough and cost upwards to a billion dollars. This is a decent temporary solution and it gets the project rolling for now. I'm sure there will be more added via the airport, etc. later.
  11. http://magic.realgm.com/ I wrote an article on the arena it for RealGM.
  12. Thats what has me confused this is being bonded by the downtown CRA, I know the money can go all over the county, but... I guess we'll find out in due time, planners are meeting 1st week of August. Commissioner presentation on Sept 12th.
  13. I think someone said it best on the RealGM boards... It's better than the traffic in KC/Oklahoma City. That being said it's a tough area to have the arena, we'll find out soon I'm sure.
  14. Agreed Sadly Old Tiger Stadium is being torn down more than likely. I think it's being sold to a developer now.
  15. Soon! There is a planning meeting in early August. The official presentation to the county commissioners is September 12th.
  16. The Preds want in the new arena, they've just kept quiet about it.
  17. I'm hearing now it's a done deal for downtown if approved. Where will be the discussion of an early August planning meeting between the city, county, and planners.
  18. They seemed to touch on the taxing district and the need to kill it. It will be an issue as how the funds of the 1% increase are to be spent.
  19. They say 2007, realistically it is 2008, 2009. They need to get a design in and buy some of the land along with securing many private donations (up to 300 Million rumored from hundreds of businesses and people)...
  20. Not yet! The arena presentation is September 12th during the county meeting. The Citrus Bowl and PAC are before that, both in August, but I was distracted when Ms. Donahouge announced the dates. It looks really really good for the Arena and PAC at this point, aside from Harris Rosen it seemed like everyone found the proposal reasonable and if they had concerns it wasn't anything that would causehuge problems.
  21. Don't hold me to it because there haven't been exacts released as far as funding, but predictions have it going past 2019
  22. Some Documents Ordinance: http://www.orangecountyfl.net/eAgenda/arch...interFriendly=1 http://www.orangecountyfl.net/eAgenda/arch...interFriendly=1 The meeting is at 3pm today and will be on Orange TV or on the internet at http://www.orangecountyfl.net/cms/ORANGEME...otv/default.htm Please note the vote will be sometime in the 3pm meeting, whether it is at the beginning or the end depends on the time it takes to discuss, etc. There are other issues being brought up i.e. public works, etc. that will have nothing to do with the tax.
  23. That's basically what the NFL report says, honestly. The report focuses on the fact that there is a high Puerto Rican and Dominican population and how much of that population hasn't picked up on football (They cite to the high Mexican population in LA not picking up the game). They also point to the fact that a good majority (forget the % at the time) work in the service industry, thus work weekends. I'll see if I can get the link, it was available on PDF about 2 years ago on a website along with NFL analyysis of Jacksonville, San Antonio, and Nashville. NBA analysis of Louisville, New Orleans (they suggested not to put a team there), and Las Vegas. AN MLB report on Tampa in 1994 (Said baseball would be can't miss there) and several other cities which were considered for expansion in 1997.
  24. Eh, I dunno here. I'd like to say Orlando would be a shoo in for the NFL, however, 2 Million people doesn't mean 2 Million people to draw fans from. A good majority of the population in Orlando is not from the North American continent and thus could give 2 blinks about football. The NFL did an Orlando demographic study in 1994 and found that the population could support an NFL team, but a good majortity would not be what you'd call your typical NFL football fan. Add in the fact that the Bucs draw about 7,000+ season tickets from the Orlando area and hold down the TV market and your pretty much hurting to take that share from them...they are in it for the money...
