    The VUE

There is a lot of paint on it, and as of now it's about as white as you can get. If they are planning on changing it let me know.
  2. Rumor has it the FSU game at the Citrus Bowl will be a one game series similar to this year's Alabama arrangement, and they will be playing Notre Dame.

    The VUE

I can't get into the Vue. I drive past it every morning and just wonder how it's gonna look in 10 years when nature starts to discolor it a little. Not a fan of the design at all.
  4. I wouldn't say "never" but we won't have a basketball team to play in a new arena, and we might be looking at a lower rung bowl game(s), and Live Nation might leave some shows out of Orlando off the broadway tour. I thought that for awhile. 19th best TV market, control of Tampa's TV market 12th, some of Jacksonville's. I believe that is the big reason the Magic have remained here while most professional franchises would have uprooted by now. I really believe that if this vote doesn't go through the Magic will start looking elsewhere.
  5. The Magic has selected HOK to design the arena. HOK is one of the leading sports venue designers in America these days. They have designed Philips Arena (Atlanta), Pepsi Center (Denver), and locally UCF's new arena. Most their work has come from baseball, but they have built the "modern gems" like AT&T Park (San Fran), PNC (Pittsburgh) and Camden Yards (Baltimore) If you want to see some of their work. http://www.hoksport.com/projects/index.html# Reminder, this all means nothing if the vote doesn't pass, so if you haven't sent letters to the commissioners and would like to visit orlando-arena.blogspot.com for a prewritten form and addresses (email and snail) of the commissioners. Every voice counts!
  6. The sad thing is this is a crap proposal with no legs.

    The VUE

Hands down the Vue is the ugliest building I've seen put together since this. http://miami.metblogs.com/archives/images/...nivalcenter.jpg
  8. I've heard good things. How was your expirience?
  9. There are a few. Bill Davidson has done it twice. Once for the Detroit Pistons and once for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He did this after fighting with the city of Detroit over his arena in the early 80s.
  10. FCS, The Orlando Magic, and Orlando Arts have started a petition for support. If you agree feel free to sign: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/orlandocommunityvenues/
  11. Shard, I am hearing its still a little over $50M; any overrun, and be a cosurety on the bond. I think there is less money from boxes and parking, etc. This same source (which I cannot reveal) was right about the initial offer to the arena and PAC. Whether they are right on this we'll see. I'm not 100% sure.
  12. Yes I know the pyramids were built more efficiently and faster than a Turner project, but it's a step...
  13. Update: Turner Construction has been selected to build the new arena (if the funding comes through) Least that is taken care of.
  14. HOK (Architects are designing it) They have started designing. The cost is based on projections of what the venue is going to include 800,000 SqFt, suites, etc. They have made the projection I believe.
  15. There were several points that I did not know myself and several commitments made to Orlando if they built an area. 1) Professional Bull Riding - Week long International Championship held at new arena, will be a major event on the PBR. 2) NCAA - will return to Orlando with 1st/2nd round AND Regional matchups in the NCAA men's and women's basketball tourny, along with several other NCAA sanctioned events. 3) Conference - ACC/MEAC pledged that they will put Orlando at the top of their lists as possible sites for conference championships. (MEAC championship, be it smaller schools is very successful event) 4) David Stern - Orlando guarenteed to get an Allstar game and will be on a rotation for this game as the NBA tries to rotate the game like the Super Bowl. 5) Magic - Cannot give EXACT number as there is too much to still plan before giving the number (location, size, etc.) Will give more than most NBA teams have given in the past. Further...They will pay any OVERRUN in the $385 Million construction cost. The Magic also pledged a large donation to the PAC and will help the FCS to obtain a BCS game with refurbished Citrus Bowl. Seemed well received.
  16. It had to be the "Capital One Bowl" because of the deal with Florida Citrus industry. When they dropped they got to take the name I believe.
  17. Actually my brother is a local performer who has performed at the Carr, SACS, and Lake Eola (shakespeare) and several other venues in the area. Thus the reason I am so big on the PAC getting done. However, the presentation was very bland. I didn't mean to sound like I was leaning towards the Citrus Bowl. Would I like to see it done? Yes. Is it the priority in my book? No. I think the problems come from the fact that the fact that we will lose the quality of the bowl games if they don't fix the stadium. Whereas the Broadway Series and Symphony aren't leaving. Thus the reasons the PAC doesn't seem as urgent to the commissioners
  18. Gotta add to the fact that the Big 10 and SEC commissioners told the country commission directly that they would pull the Cap One Bowl's 2nd Big Ten and 2nd SEC selections. As of now it's the biggest game outside the BCS. In my belief, in the end the PAC will get priority over the Citrus Bowl. However, I personally thought the Citrus Bowl presentation was better than the PAC. I almost fell asleep trying to take notes on that one.
  19. I think the PAC is going to be in phases regardless.
  20. I don't think any of the facilities will make money either. However, because of the high cost of running and keeping up the facility, factored into other things PAC around the country have lost millions at times. While being used by less than 5% of most communities, the reason comes from the fact that most shows at a PAC only draw from small demographics. I put the PAC as number 2 on my priority list of the three venues. I would love to see SOMETHING other than the Carr.
  21. Yes, and UCF's new stadium will be nice, but it's a basic steel frame stadium with 45,000 seats and a few club seats and suites. Mostly bench seating. The Citrus Bowl is talking about creating an enclosed facility. Redoing most the seating from benches to chairs, expanding some areas, adding a lot of suites, etc. It's a much more extenstive and larger project, thus the reason it costs so much more.
  22. That's probably because it's been proven that PACs lose more money than any other public venues built. If you notice they haven't really said much about how much money the PAC can make. Whereas theCitrus Bowl and Arena have made that a major issue. That being said a new PAC is needed.
