It will still be one of the most skyline-changing towers since the AT&T building and make our downtown skyline look less squat and flat. The Fifth + Broadway towers nearby will also help create a denser CBD with this tower at the center. Once this is built, let's hope the lack of a crown encourages some other developer to build a taller tower with a true signature feel.

^ If not there, I think an urban Target similar to the one proposed for Columbus would be well-suited for Capital View in the North Gulch.- 121 replies

Yes, I think the "fins" are going to look really cool on this especially if they are properly lit at night.

It looked like glass for the fins up the side of the building was being installed when I drove by yesterday. I didn't get a chance to take a pic.

I think it's great that the city has found success playing up its country music heritage with tourism downtown, but it's getting a bit overboard now, IMO. The saturation of country music themed businesses is very off-putting for those of us who are not into that scene at all. I've heard the same from both residents and visitors alike. I cringe each time something I actually enjoy downtown is replaced with another tacky, uninspired honky tonk. All I can say is that I cannot wait until the Emery/OliverMcMillan project is finished so I'm compelled to venture into downtown more often in my spare time. I love the vibrancy that we're building downtown. I just wish it wasn't so homogeneous and more of a true reflection of all that Nashville has to offer. -
The thread contains the other proposals as well: https://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/topic/116247-former-convention-center-site-development-5th-broadway/?page=5

I liked the Giarratana proposal as well. Pretty much all of them are better than the chosen one. Let's cross our fingers that this ends up like the former convention center redevelopment and the design is gradually improved over time.

I like it as well. The design is much improved and it should look pretty decent next to the highway.- 148 replies

The underwhelming lineup was the main reason I didn't attend Bonnaroo this year. I've never found the bathroom and shower situation to be very problematic and I'm not even outdoorsy. There has to be at least 5 acts I would pay to see live on their own for me to personally justify a festival. That didn't happen for me this year.

Glad to see it approved. I don't think I've previously seen the below rendering. It looks like they plan to activate the space underneath the pedestrian bridge. https://twitter.com/NC5_RSchleicher/status/735973261264228353 -

It sounds like the developers were already well prepared to address some of the concerns we discussed during the walk on our last forum meet (traffic, sight lines, etc.). Definitely gives me a little more faith in this proposal. -

These don't look too bad, tbh. I expected worse based on the Solis projects in other cities posted on their website. Looks like we got one of their better design. -
Capitol View Northwestern Mutual/HCA 32 acres of mixed use | UC
ariesjow replied to smeagolsfree's topic in Nashville
With Whole Foods off the table, Capitol View would be a solid location for Nashville's second Trader Joe's now that our wine laws are more conducive to them expanding more in Tennessee. They could also go after Publix for Capitol View if the plan for the Demonbreun Hill development including one is some time away or falls through. -

I love it! Nashville 2016 has no chill. How many firms submitted proposals to MDHA? I'm curious about how many other renderings may be floating around somewhere out there. -
