  1. Interesting that they’d use the Atlanta skyline in the background in this rendering. Does anyone know what they’ll name this building now?
  2. Meant to post this yesterday. They were installing this logo yesterday.
  3. No party at your house. Biz Journal reporting today that it’ll be a US Bank branch. How unsexy.
  4. Went to the FC game tonight and parked in the Duke deck. There was a Knights game also, and a word to the wise/cheat code - when we drove up to the attendant she asked us which event we were attending. We said the FC game and she said “$40”. I handed her my card and asked, what would it have been if I said we said the Knights game. And she said “cheaper”. What a rip! I don’t know what they were charging for Knights parking tonight but it’s usually $10 in that deck. That’d be a $30 diff, or not quite the equivalent of two beers at the FC game ($15.69 each + tip)…
  5. If Simon really wanted to checkmate, they could turn it into a Motel 6.
  6. Let’s see if she still upholds the values she campaigned on. Scroll down to “Where Tricia Stands”. https://www.triciacotham.org
  7. Was supposed to meet my parents and visiting aunt and uncle at the new AC hotel tower tonight for drinks but stomach bug keeping me home. My dad sent me this pic he took when they went there with some friends last week. Can’t wait to check it out! The view from the inside is definitely better than the view of the outside.
  8. So, Restaurant Constance.... Went tonight with two friends. Got the waffle with pimento appetizer and it was great! Waffle was flavorful and perfectly prepared, pimento cheese (which I normally don't care for) was very tasty. Had a jam component incorporated so it played on the sweet/savory. Very good. Kale salad next, which was good and a good sized portion (shout out to the sweet potato "croutons" that were so delicious by themselves I could have eaten a whole bowl of just those). Salad could have had half the amount of dressing. It was sweet and there was lots of it so I could only eat half of it before I had to stop. Only vegetarian option on the menu was the mushroom gnocchi, which I was very excited about, but very disappointed in. Two of us at the table got the same entree and neither of us took more than two bites before we called it quits. It was presented with a ladleful of white foam in the center, which was very unappetizing looking. Not to sound too gross or over-dramatize it, but it literally looked like spit or dog foam vomit. I later learned it was a parmesan foam, which I didn't know was a thing, but couldn't really taste it. I patted it down and mixed it into the dish just to make it go away, but the gnocchi was nearly flavorless. I just stopped after two bites to save the calories. Wine was great. The service was excellent and our server was so sweet, really. When she came to clear our plates, she asked us if we wanted to-go boxes for our gnocchi and we said no (very politely). The manager that had apparently been eyeing our table and two of us not eating came over and asked how we liked our entrees and I was honest with him. I didn't say spit/vomit - I'm not a neanderthal - I just said it was visually unappealing and I didn't care for the dish. He said "the strong, earthy flavor of the mushrooms were too much?" and I told him I wished, and that we felt like it had no flavor at all. He sincerely apologized and I said No big deal, and I meant it. You win some, you lose some. Then the chef came out to our table to talk to me about it. Sam something, I think. He was very nice and said he was sorry the dish disappointed us and shook my hand. We joked a bit and that was the end of it. They didn't charge us for either entree ($29/ea) so that was nice. I didn't ask for that. Somebody said he was kinda famous and beat Bobby Flay? I have no idea - I don't know who anybody is. Passed on dessert. Anyway, that was it and not sure if I'll go back. Acoustics are very loud in there. I could hear the conversation two tables over like they were sitting at our table. Kinda distracting. I hope everyone tries its and I hope it succeeds, it just wasn't the experience I had hoped for.
  9. Agree 100%. I really miss Busy Bee Cafe though...
  10. Thanks for this! I'm going on Thursday for the first time.
  11. That stinks but isn’t surprising. I kinda wish they did wait. Wait until better economic conditions to build something memorable and not half-baked. This is supposed to be kind of iconic for the city, is it not? Is it worth waiting to do it right?
  12. It is absolutely nutso to think that with the exception of the old Duke bunker, the buildings way down N Tryon, 2WF, and the soon-to-be-gone Enterprise building, that nothing in this photo existed prior to about 2007. That’s crazy to me.
  13. Great article. He also says this about capping 277 to connect to Southend: “You really don’t know how we’re going to get over the belt (I-277). But if you think about it, all you’ve got to do is go to Dallas. We’ve got to all wake up, and we’ve got to build a wide enough cover to get us over and we could do parks and do everything. We can do that. We’ll get that done.” …but not before he retires, he says.
  14. They look like giant middle fingers to the neighborhood to me.
  15. Rumblings of another attempt to bring Historic District status to Elizabeth. Article says there’s an ECA meeting tonight about it. Article doesn’t reveal much actual news, just that debate is swirling again and the usual arguments for and against by residents. There was a vote back when I lived in Elizabeth in the very late 90’s that failed, in addition to a few more since then, I believe. There’s also a link to a video of a 2hr zoom meeting if anyone is dealing with insomnia. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/development/article273122760.html
  16. I also have no idea where Zara would go in the mall, but I hope we get a decent sized store that reflects the size of the city. The Zara at Crossgates Mall in Albany NY has been there a few years and is 30K sf on two levels. For comparison, our H&M is 21K sf.
  17. I've been in that Macy's recently and the lower level where the Men's Dept, housewares, and Basement or Backstage or whatever that is, looks like a Ross. Crap strewn everywhere, unfolded merch, sparse inventory in sections. It has major "Everything Must Go" vibes. Just trashy.
  18. So is US Bank still going here? Isn’t that what’s been hinted at here for about a year?
  19. I LOVE this Camden Cowork building! I’ve never seen it before.
  20. That's how it was when I first moved here. Drum circles and barrel fires. You had to drive 2mph through there because of all the people crossing the streets randomly. Good times. But I digress...
