  1. Wow! got to see some friends play saturday night at Reveler in Carytown. What a unique and freeky cool place - I had no idea. Not sure how widespread this concept is (kind of a mixture of a classy club and a victorian acid trip) but it sure adds more depth to Richmond's nightlife! https://www.revelerexperiences.com/
  2. Im also impressed with plans for this development - hopefully it pairs with whats happened across the street at the old cloverleaf mall site to create some momentum in an area that could use some love.
  3. thats great news - now I want to build a tiny house in my back yard
  4. its great to see a new neighborhood coming together right there!
  5. wow thats really cool but pretty brutal - no windows? Looks very "modern" (50's) but is probably older - anyone know? I did a quick look and saw that Southern Bank and Trust was established in 1916 and headquartered there - theres no way that building was that old is there? Interesting history of name changes and mergers from Southern Bank and Trust (1916) > Southern Bank (1978) > Jefferson National Bank (1985) > Wachovia (1998) > Wells Fargo (2010). Its a shame it didnt make it - would look great with some big tapestries/murals on the front/sides
  6. I cant wait to see how this one ends up
  7. I like this one - a great use of a small space, and looks pretty cool
  8. By the way, the new Ember Music Hall on the south side of Broad between 2nd and 3rd street is fantastic! A top tier sound system with big video screens behind the stage and along the back wall, 2 bars, VIP seating, etc. We had a blast a couple of weekends ago when they opened and will definitely be back, I wish them well!
  9. lol - never met folks so against parks/greenspace. I know alot of people in Richmond and I swear 100% of them would love to see more parks integrated into the urban fabric. Im a big booster of dense development, but thats why greenspace has to be intentional - we can have our cake and eat it too. Its not like the burbs where greenspace surrounds every house. Quality of life? literally cooler temperatures? better air quality? proting healthy activities? generally grounding folks into the natural world? nah - give us another blah apartment block! Much has been written about the ecological/social/health problems caused by cities not integrating enough greenspace. Theres so much development going on and lots of empty lots to build on it seems like contiguous green spaces is (in most peoples minds anyway) a slam dunk positive. So the linear park in the diamond district is supposed to cross the tracks right about there right? It would be really cool to have that connect to the museums via trails, etc. I swear its a net draw for regular folks to move to the city. I honestly dont mean to be rude because I love the enthusiasm on this forum and only jump in when I disagree - but until Richmond starts getting a bad wrap for being too beautiful and healthy Ill stand with the Lorax
  10. The National Registry of Historic Grasses - classic
  11. what a wasted opportunity I like Toast though...

Bring it on! And Id love to see them build another school down there, no matter what they may think now. I dont understand why the school districting wouldnt be expected to naturally change to accomodate changing demographics, including building a new school (or fire station, etc.) if one became necessary?
  13. hmmmm. like I said, everyone's different. It raises an interesting question though - are you really suggesting that going ahead and having the demo taken care off (and planting a few trees) makes it less likely to be developed in the future? I guess I could kind of see an argument that tearing down a rotting building wasnt worth the expense, but wouldnt it let the next development happen more quickly? I suspect some of yall may have fallen out of trees as kids and have been holding a grudge ever since (jk)
  14. wow - prefer a rotting building to a treed parcel? were they suggesting leaving it as a hole? I suppose everyone is different but that really surprises me...
  15. well.... "green space" is way better than an empty 3 story building. Hopefully they find a good (and tall) use for that block, but until then Id rather see it green (and shady) then whats there now. When you're actually walking these streets shade matters alot -especially on these 95 degree days. Walked down for lunch the other day and shade makes the difference between going out and not bothering. Of course one block with trees doesnt make the difference, but cumulatively its a real quality of life issue
  16. what a fun interesting space - glad theyre able to weave this into whats happening down there
  17. I agree - whats the STR downside, rowdy neighbors?
  18. great to see! Theyve also just taken the fencing off the rehab of the nice looking building at 2nd and Broad (on the N side). For lease signs are up...
  19. a fantastic new feature - now restore the old locks so we can kayak up to the turning basin!
  20. lol - at the risk of being heretical, I'd take the "smallest big" or "largest small" airport anyday over most of the truly large airports out there. How'd that commercial go - "cost of airfare - $199, cost of parking = $15, cost of breezing through security and the gate with absolutely no wait or drama = priceless". I used to fly alot and coming home late at night to an almost empty airport had me joking about it being our own personal airport. True luxury - in the car less than 10 min after stepping off the plane! RIC should grow just as big as it needs to to hit the right balance of destination choices, downward price pressues, and still avoiding the crazy delays at giant airports. If you've got to show up 3-4 hours before your flight leaves you might as well drive to alot of places.
  21. GA building should open later this year. It wasnt ready for THIS years session as originally planned...
  22. nice! signed and shared on FB...
  23. Glad to see this happening! We walked through it a year or two ago when thinking (dreaming) about a potential event space - its really cool inside but a real mess. Theyve got alot of work to do, I hope some of the features of the theater (like the concave wall where the stage is) are preserved in the commercial spaces...
  24. ...Im in Stratford Hills and we have street lights
  25. I love to see this one happening - I dont know much about this group but expanding the biotech incubator and access to capital should have a positive impact! Really fits the Innovation District idea
