  1. This is the kind of rediculous venom that poisons reasonable conversation. You realize of course that people are flocking from "high tax" states to NC an TN in droves right? theyre probably all just dumb fat people right? Why be a hater - especially on a forum like this? Youre statement about taxes being lower now than since the 30s just silly - what data are you looking at? whether fed income tax or total tax burden, thats just not true. Why spread untruths to justify your disdain of millions of people ? WTF? These posts dont do arguments justice so I apologize if Im overreacting but it sounds like your injecting your bitter politics into a development forum. Ill make the offer again, I'll buy you lunch if you want to have a more productive (and interesting) conversation
  2. lol - as for Richmond's numbers being low, Im in the city and never got around to filling out those census forms in 2000
  3. Oh Oh! build a small stage for music and have some RV hookups / camp sites What a fun night that would be!

Hey, I apologize if I came off harshly. I would distinguish european colonialism from Christianity - though I understand not everyone does. (I was trying to imagine how loving someone too much or turning the other cheek too quickly wiped out ancient african civilizations). The world changing subversion of normal power structures (the first shall be last, last shall be first etc.) had a huge positive impact on humanity, though that doesnt discount all the horrible things greedy people have done using religion (in general) as "cover". This isnt the place for this, if you're at all interested let me buy you lunch sometime and we can talk about all kinds of cool stuff Amen brother

sorry I know this isnt the right place for this, but bigotry has to be called out - what ancient African civilizations do you think were "wiped away on purpose" by "Christianity"?
  6. ...and one from today - lots of activity going on! Cant wait to see this one come together
  7. one underappreciated blow to future growth of the midatlantic region in general and Richmond in particular was Dominion's cancelling of the pipeline project over the mountians. There will be lots of manufacturing "reshoring" in the coming years but that requires cheap energy. We were set to benefit greatly, but wont happen now as the cheap energy goes NW and NE intead of E and SE. Not to say we cant have niche industry, but the big stuff cant happen here because of the lack of cheap energy at the kind of scale the pipeline would have brought. oh well...
  8. I think its a nice addition to the ecosystem down there - another reason for people to head that way, an active lifestyle draw. Ive always tried to support the restaraunts down there and love accessing the pipeline down there behind the flood wall - but its always been very underutilized. Maybe some of the folks going down for pickleball will have lunch at Casa del Barco after...
  9. no sweat - theres more people than that at a typical friday cheers and parking isnt a problem (though you may have to walk a few blocks)
  10. maybe I missed something - didnt we just hear they delayed buying the sportsbackers stadium so they could cover the increased costs of the stadium? Sounds like they're building the stadium - is there some indication they're not?
  11. sorry to see them go, but honestly as a guy that lives just a few miles west of there and eats out a lot I thought about checking it out but never did. I cant stand the QR code ordering and why would you go to a food court and pay restaurant prices instead of going to an actual restaurant? If you lived in one of those apartments (which a growing number of people do) and it was cheaper than going to a real restaurant (which evidently it wasnt) I could see it working - but why would you drive down there for that? Im glad to see people trying different things and seeing what works but I wouldnt read much into this not working out...
  12. Exciting times at Aditxt/Pearsanta - Here's to a prosperous 2024!
  13. I think this is going to look great on that block - I love the angled roof

I like the idea of the live-work spaces. Are there any examples of that already in Richmond? makes sense in an era where alot of buildings are adding residential floors above first floor commercial space...

This is great for the ecosystem of the whole region! Phlow has their R&D lab here in the biotech park...
  16. I get it - and I dont disagree with anything you say about the matter, though I think you overstate it a little. I remember some fun friday cheers events doen there in the 80's, and Ive been part of whats a pretty bustling biotech environment in that neighborhood for the past 20 years with plenty of lunches/happy hours etc. Broad street, jackson ward.... I agree we could do better down there and dont begrudge any visions ie city center - bring it on! I was just commenting on not really understanding what seems to be a visceral hatred of the asthetics of the place expressed by some...
  17. I never understood the hate the coliseum gets. While not as nice as Hampton it has the same spaceship vibe and I always thought it looked pretty cool (poor acoustics for a concert though). Ive spent alot of time over the years in festival park there -walks at lunchtime and even a group exercise thing a few years ago- and always thought it was underappreciated...
  18. Great picture by the way! Glad to see that building coming down - I hope we dont have to wait too long for something impressive to rise there. Unfortunately Im not surprised the state isnt jumping right in to give VCU more money for that before the dust has settled on understanding how they lost $100 mil with nothing to show for it. I bet they'll work that issue through and change the way these projects are managed before anything really starts to move there...
  19. lol - its fun to see how different people can be. Another self storage box along the highway instead of some nature? hot ashes for trees? hot air for a cool breeze? There are lots of urban centers in Asia South America and Europe (and America) that are are hell holes - poor planning, paved over everything, killing the very land the city is built on - not a good strategy. Trees may not make cities but human beings need nature - trees, grass, etc. Natural spaces literally cool temperatures, filter air pollution, help rainwater runoff, and have psychological benefits for people. Smart design allows for dense urbanization that incorporates nature into it - Richmond can grow into an amazing city that really incorporates itself into the environment in intelligent ways - and it can complement urbanization and growth. The hubris of last century which didnt understand the value of the natural world led to alot of bleak devestation - inner cities and its residents have paid a heavy price. Not sure I understand your point that that corridor doesnt need beautification - are you suggesting its already beautiful, or that beauty is irrelevant? And how does a storage facility right there promote urbanization? Ive really never incountered hostility to trees before and Im facinated...
  20. While some here may not like it () thats basically a median strip - lose the billborads and plant some trees! So many people's only opinion of Richmond is when they drive through on 95 - and its alweays been pretty rough. its come some way in the past decade but some beautification right there in particular would be nice, kind of a gateway/natural wall between the highway and Diamond District (Im willing to be in the minority in this opinion here - being right kind of takes the edge off ) With that said, I dont know if Diamond District Partners would be interested - I wouldnt want the city involved. Maybe a "make RVA awesome" non-profit...
  21. This is fantastic - Im getting one
  22. A great view from the RVA chamber of commerce on the 17th floor of the Truist building on main...
  23. windows are filling in fast on the building next to the hoff... Isnt it supposed to have a courtyard/pool overlooking the hoffs rooftop?
