  1. Anyone know whats going on with the Kemps River shopping center redevelopment? I saw it was approved by the city council in June but haven't heard much since.
  2. Get us to Canada or Mexico and i’d be happy
  3. Denver, (Lived there and loved it), Salt Lake City, Boise, or Spokane. Maybe Bozeman, but that isn't something i've really thought about.
  4. weeds not even recreational yet so i know they must have a med card. i want what they’re smoking.
  5. Article Just read that article and was pretty interesting. My favorite takeaway was that ORF currently has two airlines “extremely interested” in starting service out of ORF. Any guesses on who? Id definitely bet Alaska is one of them. I can’t really think of another. Maybe Air Canada?
  6. There are many many many delivery stations across the country, this is true. However, Amazon only operates 13 other major fulfillment centers like this across the country and one is in Suffolk. The major sort center will be Amazons 17th of its size. Hampton Roads after its construction will hold some of amazons largest buildings.
  7. Amazon to Open two new fulfillment centers in Virginia Beach, creating over 1000 jobs. Amazon is loving hampton roads!!
  8. With now two new major Amazon fulfillment centers opening in Virginia Beach, I wouldn’t be shocked to see AmazonAir start freight service out of ORF. Our region is quickly becoming a Denver like hub for them. Interesting to watch and see what happens.
  9. Two new routes from Spirit: ORF- Tampa ORF- Fort Myers Both will compete with Breeze. I couldn’t find an exact start date for these routes but it appears around winter time.
  10. 466k is an insane number. Bring back the seven gate expansion!
  11. https://onemileatatime.com/news/breeze-airways-losing-money/ Breeze Airways is losing massive amounts of money.
  12. It's their own fault. They cancel and delay routes before they even start. Even more, most people have no clue what "Breeze" even is. They have time to turn things around, but some big changes are going to have to take place.
  13. The airport has narrowed down the hotel options to 3. Set to select a final option in September. Looks pretty interesting. Along with the hotel, it looks like the international gate has been expanded. It also looks to include (could be very wrong) its own baggage carrousel, after customs. This would be interesting as it would allow for transfers from an international flight to a domestic flight. (You must re-check your bag after clearing customs if you were not aware.) I am also willing to guess this "white" space with an X in the middle passed security is going to be shops/relocated burger king. You can read about it here.
  14. New Breeze Route: ORF- RSW (Fort Myers, FL) Starts November 2nd. 2 Days a week.
  15. Best June in History! In the month of June alone, the airport saw a 7.5% increase, or 431,637 passengers, which made it the busiest June in the airport’s history.
  16. Guess what? RDU just nailed a direct flight to Paris on Air France! I gotta say, that's pretty cool and interesting news. RDU has been killing it in terms of growth, and that's a big win for their airport. You know what? I'm willing to bet that in the next 10-15 years, Hampton Roads as a whole is gonna head in that direction too. And let me tell you, with this announcement, ORF is sitting pretty for the future. Personally, I think our chances of getting a direct international route just shot up by a huge margin. Now, here's the thing. RIC is just a two-hour drive from DC or RDU. So, any airline would think twice about offering a non-stop international service there. Mainly because people would just hop in their cars and drive. But you know what's great about ORF? We're perfectly situated, making it a no-brainer for a foreign airline to serve us. We're a coastal town, and we're the gateway to the Outerbanks. I can definitely see that being a ad on some billboard in Germany. I don’t know if you all have been keeping up with the news, but Breeze just submitted documents to the government to authorize them to offer international flights. From what I hear, the first offerings will be to Mexico out of Provo and Tampa. Very interesting news, as ORF is soon to be the proud keeper of a couple of A220’s. Since the launch, we’ve only had the E190 and E195s. Who knows, maybe that non-stop to Cabo is only a couple years away.
  17. Yes very true. Wouldn’t mind seeing Alaska to SEA or PDX. Or Air Canada to Toronto. Even Spirit, Frontier, or Breeze to the Caribbean would be great. Also patiently waiting on Delta or Breeze to give me a non stop to SLC!
  18. busiest may in history “According to a press release, ORF saw a 3.3% increase last month with 405,894 passengers, making this the busiest May and the second busiest month overall in the airport’s history. In comparison, the number of passengers in May 2022 was 392,942.” The fact that we surpassed 400k in one month in mind blowing. End of year numbers are going to be crazy.
  19. 500k year over year is an amazing achievement for the city. Hopefully they consider to bring back the 7 gate concourse instead of the revised 3.
  20. I wouldn’t imagine. The Amazon in Suffolk opened nearly 2 years delayed. Its one year anniversary is coming up on the 1st of August. Plus, with the upcoming recession I’d bet we have at least a few years before anything happens.
  21. Interesting read Apparently Norfolk Airport Commission has partnered with the Newport News Airport Authority to find a way to drive traffic to the Airport. Apparently the Airport is hanging on by a thread. Its final airline, American, is losing money on every flight. They are looking for assistance with brining the airport other uses. Such as cargo or drone flights. The talks of shutting the airport down and building a housing development were thrown out. Not fully norfolk airport news, but still interesting that we partnered with them.
