  1. On the north side of 277, do they own all of the land shaded in blue? Or do they own out to Morehead? Can't tell because it seems like there might be some other businesses on the northside tract. Hard to tell...
  2. Over the past few weeks they’ve been scrubbing or doing something to the glass domes. Looks much better. Old on the left. New on the right.
  3. Time to turn this into a badass outdoor rock climbing gym. Paint the concrete shafts with some wild paint schemes, throw up some cool lighting, and add a bar. Then demo the whole thing when the time comes for a redevelopment. But honestly a climbing gym here would be badass and buzzworthy in the interim.
  4. This crane really changes the north end of the skyline! At 384', and from this angle, the Ellis may optically match the height of 201 South College. Now we just need the Intercontinental and Spirit Square to fill in the gap.
  5. Birds' and squirrels' behavior will forever be altered.
  6. Does anyone have an update on the CPCC 7th Street Parking Deck? (Student deck 3). It's been closed since late 2017 for structural repairs. Based on what I can find, Rodgers was the contractor and there are concerns with welding and grouting (not saying Rodgers is to blame). Allegedly, another deck owned by the city (CATS) and built by the same group had similar issues. Considering this was publicly funded and built on Mecklenburg County land, it would be nice to know the project status and the financial remedy. There was a deck in Cherokee that had the same faulty construction, and there was a partial collapse. The Cherokee Nation ended up suing Metromont and some others for $4 million. Hopefully Mecklenburg Co or CPCC (who leases the deck) is getting some sort of payment for loss of use. 7. Well said @cltbwimob. I’m a registered Democrat, the only one in my immediate family. These past few years and the political climate have introduced some strain and tension at family gatherings because of differing beliefs (when politics are brought up). Ultimately, it’s very hard to convince or change anyone’s beliefs.. The strangest thing is I know my beliefs are right. But the exact same can be said for Republicans - they know in their hearts that they’re right. And so with family and strangers alike, I think it’s valuable to pause and ask if it’s more important to be right, or to have a relationship.
  8. I am very concerned about how the finished facade will look on the grand bohemian. It’s shaping up to look cheap. As always - thanks for the photos KJ
  9. I would LOVE an MLB team and would prefer that over MLS. Though I genuinely would be ecstatic with both announcements. If we landed a MLB team the Knights would probably relocate because there's no need for AAA ball at that point. Then you tear down the current ballpark for something else if the site doesn't work for the show. If you build it, they will come.
  10. Looks like I almost nailed it! Yours seems to have better structural integrity though.
  11. I'm not classically trained in the art of photoshop. So, this is my best attempt at showing the finished height using keynote and bit of copy/paste. Feel free to laugh!
  12. Driveby of the screening during this morning’s commute. Forgive the reflections in the glass.
  13. I’ve had Jeni’s twice now and have been underwhelmed both times. It’s a beautiful space and very “grammable.” But Kilwins ice cream is much better in my opinion. The spot is great though - that plaza between jenis and hawkers almost feels like a pocket park.
  14. It may be because I live in Elizabeth - but I like the direction this is heading. This corner needs to be lined with retail and restaurants along both Caswell and 7th. Hopefully the office component means higher quality materials than stick built apartments that won’t age well. And to echo some concerns - this corner doesn’t NEED apartments (and I promise I’m not a nimby). It needs street level retail and restaurants. Say what you will about the ECA, and I agree that they slow down and even torpedo projects at times. But I’m ok with a slow approach here and ECA having a voice. All of the retail mentioned across the street has been great for the community vibrancy - and if Asana is definitely on board I think this corner could become a greater asset to our neighborhood. Also - @atlrvr sandwich max is incredible!! No punch line there. The dollar general is fair game
  15. Hmmm. That surface lot would be perfect for BB&T/Suntrust building. If you built a 900' tower (I'm dreaming, I know) on that lot it would be the focal point in the skyline.
  16. $190 million worth of federal payroll taxes is what I read. I'm assuming SC has a state income tax, so yes. The practice facility is also a 53 minute drive from uptown (with no traffic). So good luck to all of the players, coaches, and front office staff who live in Charlotte. Makes it harder on everyone now with the commute. Imagine the grind of the season and having an hour drive both ways.
