  1. @JacksonH Are you envisioning this crown as a 30-40 ft structure? Or are you envisioning this as a tall structure that could be a part of the skyline? My personal thoughts are that an oddly-designed 30-40 ft crown structure could be fun in a downtown park and be good for photos/a instagram destination for tourists (kind of like the bean in Chicago). But I don't see how a crown could work atop a taller structure and fit with the skyline's aesthetic. I think the Space Needle, CN tower, Gateway Arch, Stratosphere, and Calgary Tower are all thought-provoking, skyline defining structures. For all of those skylines (Seattle, Toronto, St. Louis, Las Vegas, Calgary), I immediately think about that one structure when I recall how they appear... Meaning, to a casual observer, all other architecture begins to take a back seat at first look. So you better make it look great! Only the Gateway Arch and Space Needle have stood the test of time in my opinion. The other structures feel dated and a throwback to another time for me. But I'd be all for an interesting structure that could become a destination and observatory. There was one proposed a few years ago for Jacksonville that I thought had some visual interest - see below:
  2. I would love an MLB team. As previously stated by many - we're in no man's land between Atlanta and DC - and North Carolina really needs its own team. The current ballpark site would be my preference. The only way I see it happening is permanently closing Mint Street between 4th and 3rd. And then building out into the street and the parcels occupied by Park Signs and the surface lots. Green's lunch could probably be saved. A pedestrian walkway around the stadium could maintain walkability in that block (or just use Poplar). Traffic flow could be pushed down to Graham - which feels better suited to handle more traffic than Mint anyway. Just a thought.
  3. And for those wondering - the film featured on the marquee came out in 1931. So the theater was roughly 4 years old at the time of this photo.
  4. Found this photo of the original marquee in a Charlotte history book. I’m assuming this fronted Tryon - but please correct me if that’s wrong.
  5. September 11, 2018. The parking deck at Johnson & Wales (on Cedar Street) affords a great view of the skyline. I need to check out the view from CPCC one of these days, too.
  6. Thought some folks would be interested in seeing LU2 site work and the base of Legacy Onion
  7. This evening. Includes a facade mock-up with the sun setting behind. And a shot of the first floor.
  8. I'm very excited to see this go vertical. Based on the photos below, can anyone tell what phase they're in? I have to imagine they're almost done with the foundation work... I also included a side shot of the Carolina Theater.
  9. Not sure if there's any validity here - But the rumor I've heard is that Tepper will build a new NFL stadium somewhere along the silver line, between the airport and uptown. And that MLS will play at the current stadium site - in a remodeled Bank of America stadium with the upper deck removed. If you look along the Wilkinson corridor, there's definitely room for a stadium in several spots, but I don't think moving the panthers out of uptown is the correct move. So hopefully this is just a rumor.
