I'm not able to get behind the paywall. Is it confirmed that the city scrapped the tour?
-
How can you say in one line that we were serving as foil, then in the next line act like we actually missed out on something? Maybe i'm misunderstanding the definition of "served as foil," but in the context it seems to mean Microsoft wasn't really ever considering Nashville at all in which case I'm glad Cooper didn't play ball. This whole story refers exactly to what I was saying above. Microsoft knows where they want to go. Now they are going to play games to get every last dime out of their top picks.

And some companies come to Nashville because of the lower cost of living and low taxes as well as the growing workforce. That's my point. Every city has benefits. Hell, they could build a huge HQ in the middle of Montana and have enormous salary savings right? Or they could go to the Bay area where the talent is unmatched in the world. Or maybe they could go to Nashville where the talent is growing, cost of living is cheap(er), and taxes are low. These companies choose the cities they are interested in for a variety of factors. 2.5 million dollars a year is one of those factors but it PALES in comparison to the savings they would have on taxes and lower salary based on cost of living in Nashville. Which is my original point. No way did Microsoft pull out because of the tiny incentives the city decided not to hand out. Only when dumb cities/states like NY decide to shovel money (Billions) at these companies do these incentives become the top priority. Now, don't get me wrong. This may have been leaked by the State to shame the city. We know the state doesn't get along with it's few largest cities. Microsoft may even leak that it was the lack of incentives that caused them to pull out. Why wouldn't they say that? They want every city they are interested in to think they need to scrape together every penny they can to give over to one of the largest companies in the world. Cities need to focus on the fundamentals. Spend that money on your infrastructure, parks, schools. Make your city a nice place to live. That's where these companies really want to go because that's where the talent wants to live. (I don't want to turn this into a long back and forth so I'll end it with this post on this topic.)

I think the HQ2 plan was originally 25k over like 10 years wasn’t it? How many employees do you think amazon hires in NYC in 10 years? It may not be 25k, but it’ll be way more than 1k I’ll bet. All without the city and state paying amazon billions.
-
The city is giving Amazon up to 2.5 million a year for 7 years. That's chump change to these giant companies that profit BILLIONS a quarter. There's no way Microsoft is going to move somewhere else for a mere 2.5 million dollars a year. These companies pick where they want to go, then ask for incentives. They may play cities against each other to get every penny, but they know where they want to move to. Look at Amazon continuing to expand in NYC after they "pulled out" of the deal for the HQ2.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't believe any of that architect mumbo jumbo. I'm pretty sure they forgot to put elevators in this building! I plan to go down this afternoon and advise the foreman on this grave mistake. /s

It’s a bit shocking how long this board has discussed whether a 22 floor building has elevator shafts.

You can see what looks like three floor openings when you drive by. Two seem to have stairs in them right now. Not sure if those are temporary or will be the final stairwells. The other shaft has several large pipes in it right now. I'm assuming some of that is for the concrete pump.

I’m loving the divide this place is showing on the forum. Usually the forum generally has a consensus. This place is so bold some people are even saying it may flop... I think it’s great and I’m a early 30’s straight male FYI. I’d say the actual rooms are a bit feminine for sure though.. I don’t think this will be host to many bachelor parties...

I think someone in the city government thinks it’s their job to process sidewalk closure request forms instead of actually analyzing and approving /denying sidewalk closure requests. I spent a week in NYC and there wasn’t a single time I had to detour for construction. Builders know how to keep them open and protected. They just don’t care and neither does our local government.- 1,920 replies

I toured the apartments yesterday. People started moving in around a week ago IIRC. They are leasing to the 12th floor at this time. Still finishing out the rest. They said they are being told February for Whole Foods opening, but they seemed a bit skeptical of that date as well. There will apparently be an escalator from the public portion of the garage directly into the Whole Foods. Just a few quick shots I grabbed. Looking west towards BroadWest from the 12th floor: Looking Northeast towards Asurion and Amazon from the pool deck on the 8th floor: The pool is rather small for such a large building, but the rest of the amenities area was a pretty good size and we didn’t even get to visit the rooftop amenities

But for real. I don't get it. I thought this was a community to discuss development in Nashville, but if there are ulterior motives and "competition" I'd just like to know what's going on. -

I don’t understand. Can someone explain why we don’t want to tip someone off based on publicly accessible documents? Who is someone? Is the developer not going to build if people on the internet find their water application? -

I think at some point Asurion expanded into part of that building as well. Maybe i'm mistaken, but maybe something will happen when Asurion moves in 2021 or 22. -
HA You act like this city cares at all about closing streets for development. This morning 2nd ave had 2 of 3 lanes closed for this project and 4 seasons had 1st completely shut down. West End was down to 1 lane west bound during rush hour due to the 2012 Residential tower. The city is letting Broadwest close BOTH 16th and 17th for the foreseeable future.

Delta wants a flight from nashville to Europe. “Metal” is a term used to describe aircraft in the industry I think for whatever reason.
