  1. How has Charlotte been affected by the recent fintech and financial services mergers/acquisitions?
  2. American Airlines from mid-February 2020 is launching codeshare partnership with Brazilian carrier GOL, covering various routes within and beyond Brazil. Planned codeshare routes to commence on 13FEB20. The oneWorld carrier since 01FEB20 discontinued codeshare partnership with LATAM Airlines Group, including LATAM Airlines Brasil. https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/289431/american-airlines-gol-begins-codeshare-service-from-mid-feb-2020/ Will be interresting to see how the battle for South American partners ends up. I do find it funny how Delta and America have switched between the same South American partners many twice now I believe.

  4. There is a lot of money in paper... someone has to make those shipping and take out boxes after all.
  5. Continuum Global Solutions notified the N.C. Department of Commerce on Thursday that it will soon close the company's center at 2745 Whitehall Park Drive. Debra Davis, the director of human resources for Continuum, wrote in the company's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter of plans to lay off 383 workers and close its facility in Charlotte on April 30. https://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2020/01/31/call-center-to-shutter-in-charlotte-impacting.html From a paywall article.
  6. Southwest has actually cut down service from peak AirTran levels. It’s still a large base, but I think southwest is doing around 30% less flying into Atlanta than when AirTran/Southwest we’re flying.
  7. https://news.alphastreet.com/american-airlines-aal-q4-earnings-rise-19-tops-street-view/ I think American surprised quite a few people with its earnings for the quarter and year, but it still has some catching up to do if it wants to reach the level of United, Delta, or Southwest.
  8. WoAh... we don't talk about Truist Park here in Atlanta. 0_0 Maybe the Rollins execs are happy with all of the business they get in the ATL?
  9. Atlanta really exposed itself on this one
  10. Ahh no... I was using IBM’s acquisition of RedHat as a comparison for GA losing SunTrust. While they’re not the same, I was trying to show that there still an ebb and flow with companies with both NC and GA gaining and losing F1000 and F500 companies.
  11. On Forbes's America's Largest Private Companies List there were four companies from NC that made the list. Rank Company Revenue 86. American Tire Distributors Holdings 5 Billion 121. Belk 3.6 Billion 144. SAS 3.3 billion 201. Alex Lee 2.3 Billion Of the list, both ATD Holdings and Belk are headquartered in the Charlotte area (correct me if I'm wrong 0_0). Overall, that's some nice representation on the list with some large companies. https://www.forbes.com/largest-private-companies/list/#tab:rank
  12. There is a Botiwala in DT Alpharetta and all the people around here have said it's fantastic, so I presume that your hope will be matched or even exceeded.
  13. Hmm... I don't entirely think those deals will affect numbers too greatly except in the financial sector. Even then, Invesco/Synovus have already started to and will pick up some of the "scraps" of the BB&T merger and Suntrust. In addition, you have to take into account IBM's acquisition of RedHat, NS and Newell Brands moving to the ATL, and the big hiring sprees by companies in both NC and GA. However, NC definitely has GA beaten when it comes to Fortune 1000 HQs. Honeywell and the new Truist are undoubtedly larger than NS and Newell and will hire more people (esp. since Atlanta was already almost the Newell HQ). GA also lost a Fortune 1000 (TSYS) but will gain a new F500 (GP). Anyways, I think both states will have strong prospects going into the 2020's. I think an interresting factor will be if GA's secondary cities will be able to grow and begin to compete better with their peers in NC,SC,etc.
  14. HBM Holdings (“HBM”) announced today it has acquired HarperLove of Charlotte, North Carolina. HarperLove, founded in 1978 and a portfolio company of Graycliff Partners, is a leading provider of specialty adhesives, performance additives and wet-strength resins to corrugated packaging manufacturers. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200102005092/en/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The parent of Charleston-based CresCom Bank kicked off the new year by extending its reach into the Charlotte market while also preparing to be acquired by a bigger out-of-state lender. Carolina Financial Corp. said Thursday that it finalized its $100 million purchase of Carolina Trust BancShares Inc. this week. The deal, announced last summer and financed with a combination of cash and stock, closed on New Year’s Eve, about two weeks after shareholders voted to approve it. Carolina Trust Bank, which was headquartered in Lincolnton, N.C., is now part of Carolina Financial’s CresCom subsidiary. The newly acquired franchise operates 11 branches and a loan office mostly in and around the Charlotte market, including Concord and Gastonia. Two of its locations are across the border in South Carolina — in Clover and Lake Wylie. (Paywall on the article)....(I used one of my free articles for the month ) https://www.postandcourier.com/business/sc-s-crescom-bank-seals-m-buyout-as-a-bigger/article_f61e7276-2d9d-11ea-9285-6b0255f5a073.html
  15. From the citydata thread 50 States & DC Q2 2019 GDP and 5-Year Growth Rate and data compiled by 18Montclair https://www.city-data.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3115633&referrerid=2160197 Just from the data I saw, it still appears that GA and NC have been growing at great rates and are still neck and neck with each other.
  16. GA Power/Southern Company hasn’t built anything new for 2 reasons. First, their plant Vogtle Project has been BILLIONS over budget (Than Heaven the first reactor will be ready around 2021). Second, Southern Company bought AGL Resources for 12 billion. AGL also just so happened to be headquartered in Atlanta too, so they have a ton of smaller building around the city and in the suburbs.
  17. Honeywell announced that it has acquired Rebellion Photonics, a Houston-based provider of intelligent, visual gas monitoring solutions that help maximize safety, operational performance, emissions mitigation and compliance in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power industries. Rebellion offers a real-time monitoring platform that visually identifies and quantifies gas releases to quickly detect and analyze leaks and keep workers safe. The intelligent monitoring system incorporates a sophisticated AI-driven software platform that automatically alerts plant operators if a gas leak, fire, or security issue is detected and provides detailed analytics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and there is no change to the company's 2019 financial guidance as a result of the acquisition. https://www.arcweb.com/blog/honeywell-acquired-rebellion-photonics-its-intelligent-visual-gas-monitoring-solutions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced today that it is acquiring TrueCore, LLC (TrueCore), an insulated metal panel manufacturing company with a facility in Laurens, South Carolina. TrueCore produces insulated metal panels serving the cold storage market, with future plans for additional commercial and industrial applications. "This acquisition fits well with our strategy to profitably grow our value-added product portfolio and provides great synergies with Nucor Buildings Group. As the market leader in metal buildings, we currently utilize a high volume of insulated panels for buildings we design and manufacture," said Chad Utermark, Executive Vice President, Fabricated Construction Products. TrueCore currently has 26 employees and will become part of Nucor Buildings Group. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/nucor-acquires-truecore-insulated-panels-300973201.html
  18. The nation’s second-largest hard cider brand will soon have ties to Charlotte. Charlotte-based Artisanal Brewing Ventures is acquiring Bold Rock Cider in a deal slated to close later this month. Financial terms of the deal were not released. https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/charlotte-brewery-acquire-nations-second-largest-cider-brand/SBWTCTBFXRB3NMBNHSY426N7MM/
  19. https://www.noradarealestate.com/blog/atlanta-real-estate-market/ This seemed pretty comparable... but I’ll try and find some more things later tonight. Ik it’s the same in Nashville, but these averages have had very different affects in certain places where home values have greatly increased, stated similar, or even decreased.

  21. Let the games begin!!! (We all know ATLUTD will win though)
  22. Stayed at an AirBNB in West Village and it was fantastic. If you're still in town, check out Dame's Chicken and Waffles, all the staff and students at Duke and people who live in the area recommend it.
  23. One of the prospective "Atlantic Yards" tenants is a Fortune 50 technology company that is considering relocating its headquarters from another state to Atlanta, said Terri Kerr, managing director with site developer Hines. https://saportareport.com/fulton-panel-turns-down-buckhead-developer-seeking-incentive/ A report about a F50 company looking to relocate their HQ. I'm only adding this because often times ATL and CLT are locations being considered for corporate relo. Could this be one of the big companies y'all have been talking abt?
  24. Ditto...I'll be very interested in how the new Truist will brand in ATL considering they both have very high profile buildings (BB&T at AS with great views from the Connector) (Suntrust has Atlanta Financial Center, their tower DT, a ball park). Idk about the situation in Charlotte, but I am glad they Cousins got a juicy lease agreement from them with option to buy.
