  1. Per OBJ... "The Tao Hotel will rise within the City Center at O-Town West component of the larger development, at the corner of Daryl Carter Parkway and Palm Parkway, adjacent the under-construction headquarters for Marriott Vacations Worldwide." https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2022/11/09/unicorp-o-town-west-tao-group-luxury-hotel-resort.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_11&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s
  2. I doubt this space will be another grocer and I'm not betting on it being traditional retail. My guess is on something medical... hope I'm wrong.
  3. Forts, Jernigan (X2), questionable namesakes and Walt's parents. A 50,000-foot view of the area's history. https://www.mouseplanet.com/13264/Orlando_and_Walt_Disneys_Ancestors
  4. FTX has spent the year acquiring other companies on their downturn. Meanwhile, Binance, who was 70% of the market, was holding large shares of FTX token FTT and when the FTT value fell, Binance dumped it- causing even more of a spiral. In the end, it all works out for Binance, who I assume will now hold 80%+ of the market. Drama worthy of an HBO series...

  6. Did anyone know this property is now called "Ridley on Main". Also, everyone knows EarthFare is gone. Today I got a notice of auction of the contents. Let the guess for the next tenant begin.
  7. Orlando has been by the US Olympics Committee to host a 2024 US Olympics team trial marathon event. 500 athletes will compete on Feb 3, 2024. "The event has the potential to generate $10 million-$12 million in economic impact, draw 100,000 spectators and create 10,000 hotel room sales," https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2022/11/08/orlando-lands-marquee-u-s-olympics-event-in-2024.html
  8. A few months ago, I saw a MarketWatch article that declared the Four Seasons at WDW to be the most expensive hotel in the country with an average room rate of $1440. Well, something has changed. The hotel is still the most expensive in the country, but the rate is now $1733. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/with-a-rate-of-1-733-per-night-this-orlando-resort-is-the-most-expensive-u-s-luxury-hotel-11666375171
  9. If it makes anyone feel better, OMA wasn't the only one... "A Work Attributed to Basquiat at TEFAF was Made by Artist André Heller — He Called it a ‘Childish Prank’" "Heller glued sketches by Basquiat to strips of wood, applied red paint, and hammered nails and pieces of a black broom handle; a genuine portrait by Basquiat, acquired by Heller in 1990, was placed in the frame," https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/basquiat-forgery-tefaf-andre-heller-1234645236/
  10. This is cool. I haven't had a chance to look at DALL E, but question: did you provide the base image or just ask for "Orlando"? I ask, because of the perspective of looking over the lake is basically the same in all your takes. Are you able to take a view from say the west looking east?
  11. Per GS and OBJ- Mill Creek has submitted plans for what would be the 3rd Modera in downtown. The 25 story apartment building is on the 2 acre site planned for Highwoods Cap Plaza at Pine and Rosalind. Interestingly, "Highwoods jointly submitted plans for a 100,000-square-foot office building called The Commons. Both are seeking master plan approval and requesting a courtesy review by the city’s Appearance Review Board". "A pedestrian promenade, called the via, would separate the two buildings. The residential building would have 400 units and about 6,369 square feet of ground-floor retail space." https://www.growthspotter.com/news/downtown-orlando-developments/gs-news-modera-south-eola-commons-arb-20221107-yxvsejwqdraexmwbamx6hfnhiu-story.html
  12. The Orlando Dining Awards are out. There is always stuff to quibble about, but @spenser1058 will be thrilled to see Ronnie's, all these decades later, made the list (Editor’s Choice: Restaurant We Wish Would Come Back). https://www.orlandomagazine.com/orlandos-2022-dining-awards-winners/
  13. Incentives would have been guaranteed if they hit targets. I assume (maybe wrongly) their financials haven't gone as planned and they are cutting back expansions.
  14. As a follow up to the bad Lake Nona jobs announcement... Florida loses satellite factory project with thousands of jobs to California Per OBJ, "Terran Orbital Corp. has scrapped plans for the $300 million satellite production facility it planned to build on Florida's Space Coast, which the Boca Raton-based company instead will build in California."... "would have brought 2,100 high-wage jobs and millions of dollars in construction and development to the region." https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2022/10/31/florida-2022-jobs-tech-california-factory-lockheed.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_11&cx_artPos=1#cxrecs_s That kinda sucks. "Terran Orbital will use the Lockheed money to buy more satellite assembly space, and the advanced manufacturing facility it planned to open in Melbourne now will be based in Irvine, California,"
  15. Not a banner day for Lake Nona jobs. Amicus Therapeutics sells land back to Tavistock, scraps deal for future Lake Nona facility That was expected to create hundreds of high skill/ high paying jobs in the area. https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2022/10/31/amicus-therapeutics-sells-orlando-land-to-tavistoc.html

  17. So did they make the change when they shifted Orange Ave to cross Lake Lucerne? Also, Kuhl Ave still exist about 500 feet to the west.

No, we paid $3 million for them to design a park, but then we pulled the plug on that idea after the contract was let.
  20. Pretty much every municipality and company (at least those of any size) do these "vision" documents. They aren't generally based on concrete future plans- that is not really the purpose. Page 103 of this document says it is "A focus on dreaming big while developing overarching networks, frameworks, and strategies". So much of it is pie in the sky thinking- see the "greenway" walk in the previous DTO document- but does NOT indicate that will happen. The next phase looks like it will contain projects, policy and programs. But to the Under I plan, I'm hopeful that the eventual plan will be to improve the gateway between Church and Pine (about 4.5 acres), with ride share/ parking on the rest. That may not be what we get now, but as more garages are built west of I4 I think these spaces will be needed less. That area is not defined as the CBD. Also, most of that area is residential and has different needs than the CBD. However, I'm really surprised the City has never done a visioning for South Eola like they've done for SoDo, Parramore, Curry Ford, Semoran, etc. Btw, from the City's 2021 Indicators report, "South Eola has a Walk Score of 91, which is considered a Walker’s Paradise where daily errands do not require a car." The best in the area. Good for them.
  21. That's not what he said. He said construction in the 70's and 80's was not as good as previous decades. He didn't imply there was a problem with construction in the post 2000's homes when, as @jack indicated, new standards were applied.
  22. Wednesday was the kickoff reveal of DTO 2.0 next phase. The presentation is lengthy and very image heavy, but I think it is a pretty valid (and not attractive) look at where we are. Page 34 seems to sum it up. https://www.projectdto.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/20220922_City-Council-Workshop_Final.pdf

I didn't care for the old proposal anyway. But it seems this group has overlooked it was a "proposal"... a "concept". Remember how CV changed? How about Sodo? Uptown? When these conceptual ideas are floated, Bungalower, OW and others promote them, and we all start to form opinions. Meanwhile, did you notice there has not been a public meeting about this project? Was it ever funded, other than for study (No)? Did the public give input? Six years in and none of that was done. To me, that means it was not gonna happen. Btw, that is now on the schedule- The first phase of the project will open up the space for ride-share parking while the rest of the project is constructed. Public input will be heard during phase 2 as part of the DTO Plan process, Papagni said, which will be in about nine months. https://www.yourcommunitypaper.com/articles/under-i-project-altered-to-be-mostly-parking/ Color me not disappointed, not surprised. I'm happy they will return some parking. I think a ride share area is great idea. I hope they dress up the Church to Central zone. I don't think they're through with the planning. It can be much better than it was. Nonetheless, it will be incremental improvement.
  24. Everything is cool now... they sold the building /s "A new high-rise luxury apartment community that opened in downtown Orlando in 2021 sold this week in the largest multifamily deal recorded in the market this year."..."with a closing price of $155 million" per GS- https://www.growthspotter.com/news/residential-property-developments/multi-family/gs-news-radius-apartment-orlando-sells-millions-development-20221027-tnnygsm3gvdpznyppfdxltrtli-story.html
