  1. It would be a bit easier to feel empathy for the complainers in this case if it wasn’t on the east side, where the average time of ownership is probably less than 5 years in one of the most gentrified parts of the city. It always feels irritating when people want the door closed right after they walk through it. It’s why, on principle, I don’t lament with long time White House residents when they complain about all the new houses being built. I don’t feel I have the right to, and I tell them so.
  2. Schools are a huge factor too. I know a lot of people who move to the burbs once their kids are approaching school age. They would rather move than send their kids to Metro schools. The funny thing, as I’ve elaborated in other threads in here ad nauseam in the past, is that we had every intention to stay in Davidson since we plan on homeschooling anyway. We could barely find anything in our budget, and most of what was in our budget was either terrible fixer uppers that I have neither the time, money or expertise to fix up, or they’d get bought cash by investors for way over asking price. We eventually accepted the situation and expanded our search and ended up in White House, where we ended up being happy as clams. So my family of 5 moved out, and a couple moved in to our old house. -3 in one home sale.
  3. Probably has something to do with singles moving to Nashville vs families moving to surrounding counties. Or at least that’s what I’ve seen anecdotally. I’m sure it’s just the station of life I’m in but for every 1 single person I know moving to Nashville there’s 2-3 families moving from Nashville to Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, or Wilson counties.
  4. An a320 is what JetBlue, Spirit, and Frontier fly. Not super small. Personally I think airlines like this are a way for someone rich to make a lot of money in tax write offs when the airline goes down.
  5. I flew round trip BNA-LGA in late January and it was packed as well. Every seat sold on the 737-8M on the way to NY, probably 85% full 738 on the return leg.
  6. I flew allegiant from Washington-Dulles to BNA earlier this week and B concourse was absolutely packed. The flight itself was maybe 80% full or more (it was full in front of me but I was crammed in a middle seat between two portly passengers so I couldn’t see behind me), which ain’t bad for a midweek flight with no connecting passengers in a seasonal leisure airline from an inconveniently located, secondary (as far as short range domestic flights) airport. The new lobby was gorgeous and there were tons of people coming and going, it felt like a much larger airport.
  7. Their routes always seemed thin and scattered. And easily competed with by the likes of allegiant.
  8. The American MD-82’s and 83’s that they used until maybe 5 years ago used to be the loudest at BNA. Which is funny because they only had the capacity of a smaller 737. I used to live in Bellevue and FedEx’s daily 757 to Memphis would fly overhead every evening, and I learned to tell it by the sound of its engines.
  9. Yeah, man, that’s what poverty does. Go to north Nashville or literally any other poor place in America and you’ll find the same. Unfortunately wealth isn’t something you can just snap your fingers and produce. “Bashing” Jackson (80% African American and very poor) isn’t going to convince them to just become San Jose, California.
  10. My grandmother lived the last 3 years of her life in Mississippi and when she died I’ve never been treated better than the people in her town. None of them knew her well but they treated us like family, bringing food and condolences to the church where her funeral was held. They may lack “progress” (whatever the hell that means) but they sure don’t lack basic humanity. I honestly think half of the reason the state keeps hammering the city is because of this sneering, looking down your nose sense of superiority that many of the white progressives in Nashville have towards those who live in the rural counties. Heck, I wouldn’t be on this forum if I wasn’t a big fan of urban development but reading some of these posts makes me want them to come down even harder.
  11. County leaders looking to build new forensics center in Smyrna, TN (wkrn.com) Much needed, as the one in Davidson serves the bulk of the state. Really good scientist jobs, too.
  12. Wasn’t that the last 747 built by Boeing? I don’t know how many have the Kuehne+Nagel on the side, but I thought I remembered this paint scheme being on the last queen.
  13. The spelling or the university? Until they built the new Police HQ/Family Safety Center Trevecca was basically the only noteworthy thing on Lafayette/Murfreesboro from downtown to the airport. Or are you an alumni of Southern Nazarene University and are just throwing shade at a rival Nazarene college? (I had to look up other Nazarene colleges to make this lame joke).
  14. I don’t think so. The growth is about the same as other months, and it looks pretty comparable from other years with the ca. 100,000 pax drop from December. I think this is just the new normal, as far as the insane number of passengers. Historically, it’ll drop by a few thousand in February and then start rising again in March, peaking in the summer. Anecdotal, but I flew to LGA and back in late January and it was pretty packed. The 738M was 100% full on the way there and probably 75-80% on the way back.
  15. I feel like middle Tennessee has 12,000 large strip malls with the exact same store offerings.
  16. I’ve heard that those new scanning machines are just by nature super slow. Hopefully it gets figured out soon.
  17. So I was just clicking around and on the main Nashville page i clicked what looked like a view setting, it looked like something where you'd change it from list to tile or something like that. It basically made the main page of any city on UP unusable - every time I click on the main page its just a white page that doesn't load. I can click around elsewhere in UP, and I can find individual topics like this, which work fine. I tried deleting the cookies and browsing history on my iPhone to no avail, and now I'm using my wife's iMac which also has the same issue. It seems like I switched to some sort of broken view setting that is linked not to my browser but to my account. Does anyone have any idea what to do? I typically navigate from the main Nashville page, that's the bookmark I have saved and I don't post on other city forums. I've looked around my profile but I can't find anywhere to modify view settings. I don't want to have to create a new account but UP seems to be leaving that as the only option... anyone have any advice? I'm an IT guy and I'm normally pretty good with figuring this stuff out but I'm stumped.
  18. Lol well they wouldn’t be wrong. Some may *credit* Nashville for economic and population growth of the surrounding areas, but others *blame* Nashville for the same thing.
  19. Depending on the cost of train fare from Chattanooga to Nashville it could also lead to an increase of people traveling from Chattanooga to BNA for more plentiful flight options.
  20. United is allergic to non-existing-hub growth. I think they’re content leaving the Southeast to Delta and United and concentrating on the west coast and the northeast. They’ve never shown the remotest desire to expand at BNA, unlike DL and AA who will occasionally go through fits of adding seasonal vacation spots and focus cities. I think the last route expansion UA did at BNA was when they added SFO in like 2016 or 2017.
  21. Lol I know the rendering is just to show the possible capabilities of the airport, but it’s a bit rich of them to have 27 A380’s in one bank at an airport in central Poland
  22. Rural voters aren’t monolithic in the issues they prioritize in the ballot box. For some TennCare and prescription costs is a big deal, for others not so much.
  23. I can’t stand all the renamed streets. I’d be 100% in favor of renaming completely to a number or letter system, simply for ease of getting around and giving directions. The problem is that any attempt to do so will be construed as an attack on the civil rights leader legacies or whatever. I think if this change is to be made the impetus would have to come from the state, since city leaders wouldn’t have the political capital to make the change.
