  1. That's been happening a lot though. The Pinnacle seemed odd to me when it was under construction, but now it's surrounded by other tall buildings. Same thing with the Westin.
  2. Maybe they acquired it temporarily, but then didn't give it up. There's probably people on here who really know, I just have a strong distrust of government and assume that most everything they do has some dastardly agenda.
  3. When I look at aerial photos, the first thing I think is "look at all those parking lots"
  4. You're joking, but it also seems that there are really people who think that way. Maybe they're wired completely the opposite way we are, de-urbanists!
  5. I can't believe anyone ever considered razing the Ryman. But, the same goes for many buildings that did get torn down.
  6. They're always like that until they rise above the ground.
  7. Getting the Signature might be the thing that cures Nashville's fear of heights.
  8. Have any of those actually started? I thought all of those were still "in the works"
  9. SF also has a great skyline, and again the real winner is the architecture of the rest of the city's 3-4 story houses.
  10. The skyline is cool and all, but I really love the brick row houses found throughout the city.
  11. Philadelphia does have those awesome buildings, but they also have plenty of boxes. The building with the spire makes me yearn for a Signature Tower of some sort.
  12. I hope so too, and that it'll spur more development around dickerson Pike and Main, making the whole area much more urban.
  13. Those pictures look really dense, but it's a little deceptive because of all the undeveloped land hidden in them.
  14. This shot shows the satisfaction of Nashville's recently acquired density, AND the potential of much more at the same time. All that infill in Midtown, Sobro's new buildings, and still many surface parking/unused lots.
  15. I don't know why this is, but some Shoney's I've eaten at were awesome, but others were terrible. Is it the difference in management? I would have thought there would be some sort of company-wide food preparation procedure.
  16. I've always thought of it as frustration at zoning limits. Like in Rutledge, what real reason was City Lights knocked down, as an example? Other than "zoning is limited to just this many floors" is that actually a good reason to make a developer redo their plan into something smaller than they intended? That's just paper and ink as far as I'm concerned. How in the world do other cities build density, but we can't? I'm pretty sure the answer is something to do with "old Nashville" mentality.
  17. That's right it doesn't make much sense, but their vision is admirable. And, it might make more sense than it appears, what with Dickerson Pike and Main's projected growth. Also, (this is probably from my own anti-authority tendencies), who say's CBD has to be the only place with tall buildings? PS: Yeah yeah, infrastructure. Well, isn't the place kind of a blank slate?
  18. I wonder if their building blocks anyone's view of other buildings, or casts a shadow depriving people of essential sunlight for the ferns growing on their heads, or whatever that lady's deal was.
