  1. "Local developer insiders" are talking their own book. Of course economic conditions could slow it down. The conditions will also slow down their own pet development projects. Local politics BS from the other developers. The cash behind the Lincoln developments and S+ED and another I can't disclose on Rosalind are much deeper than local developers. This chirping makes me think that they are more likely to go than not.
  2. I saw it driving down Rosalind at Washington directly on the entrance to Lake Eola Park last week. Funny car!
  3. Did you see the baby duckies today?
  4. @KJHburg Inadvertently snapped a pic of the new scrim fence in his photos of Society this afternoon.
  5. New sight fence with scrim screen on this site today. Couldn't get a picture because was driving in traffic, but I can walk by later if it isn't raining.
  6. New "art" installation at Orange and Pine pocket park. Iridescent obelisk like towers that light up. May look a bit better at night, LOL.
  7. There aren't any. Tallest is Sociey, but it isn't must-see. A bland ugly grey rectangle mass.
  8. I would give Stuart a much higher percentage than that. The main reasons being 1. Ridership demographics for BL seem to be more higher income and tourist 2. More population in surrounding radius for Stuart (although Ft. Pierce has much more population as a city, the surrounding areas are not as populated as Stuart). 3. Closer to the already successful West Palm to Miami portion that has seen some commuter traffic and is more dense in general. Lastly, the Martin County thing you pointed out, which makes sense to put the station in Stuart to appease that situation. The developable land is a consideration, but BL likes to own the land before announcing stuff, and that "King's Landing" thing is not a benefit to them if it is another developer, it's competition.

  10. Yes. I downloaded it yesterday. Not much different than what was in recent articles, but there are board comments on the design. As for BB, to be fair to them, they can't help it at times that the owner/market dictates that everything needs to be "Value-Engineered" to succeed in this market. Their designs are often bland, but that's often what is dictated to them. The Edge/CSP II is actually a decent looking design and I hope to see that one go up soon. The S+ED is kinda a cheaped out/cookie cutter copy of the "Live" complexes around the country (LA, Philly, DC), and that's about what we are going to get in O-town. Could the design be more inspired, of course, but I wouldn't put all of the blame on the architect in this instance.
  11. Geico is actually really good insurance. Never had a problem with a claim whatsoever, easy to renew and get cards or change policy, got paid a lot more than I expected when my last car was totaled. It is consistently ranked in the top 3-5 and usually cheaper than most above it (exception being USAA which is for Military families).
  12. Hah, yeah, I didn't see an official announcement so didn't link. I got that image from Twitter.
  13. From my understanding they would need regulatory approval to go above 125 MPH with the current locomotive. As we have seen, they are capable of higher speeds, but the regulator will not allow it. This is for safety and maintenance issues in long term service. If we really want HSR, it would be electric with catenary wires. (The top Diesel locomotives top out at like 148 MPH, most HSR is electric technology allowing for much more constant power to the loco.) The biggest problem in america for using this proven technology is ROW, though. So it is not feasible in many already developed areas. The best thing would probably be to use easements/medians of the existing interstate system with catenary electric trains, but the routes were designed/engineered for car traffic tolerances, not train tolerances, so it is still not ideal. We are lucky in florida to lack the terrain and curves that would prohibit some of these circumstances, so should be a leader in HSR in the inital projects. There are very valid reason why HSR and Brightline chose FL as the first project.
  14. Haven't been to the new Pier yet and would love to go. Maybe when I am down in Palmetto for Christmas I can make a trip over the bay. St. Pete is a place I would love to move to long-term, but with the new development Tampa/St. Pete is getting pretty expensive compared to what it used to be. If money was no object I would live in St. Pete or Sarasota right now.
  15. It is the locomotive. They use a Siemens Charger SCB-40 locomotive that is only certified for 125 MPH. They would have to switch locomotives with a higher certification to go faster. ( They can technically go a little bit faster, but the safety regulators limit them based upon their testing certification). RE: Acela, yes it is electric. Also, they are doing trainset tilt technology to allow them to maintain higher speeds in curves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilting_train
  16. Quite an interesting video on Geography and city development:
  17. Yeah, I would think like a little pocket park with some real grass instead of the astro-turf and an art installation in the middle. Also, there was a concrete pour happening this morning at Art2 park as I drove by.
  18. 95 south approaching DT Miami turnoff is still the most impressive. I took that route for a cruise a couple of years back and there is no match in FL.
  19. You guys are worse than my annual performance review at work. LOL.
  20. TBF, this being an empty lot would be better than what was there, compared to say when they tore down perfectly good buildings across from Amway or the 7-Eleven.
