  1. This buildings at 12 Calhoun were being demo'd when I drove by this morning.
  2. Was hoping to see a connection to JFK for international connections. Maybe next time...
  3. In this case, this is the site of the county's current and future office complex. So the reality is yeah, there is going to be at least some form of government vision in the site development.

My drive home in the evening would be so much better if University Ridge aligned with Vardy. If you take the building at 120 Howe St out, looks like you might have a corridor to come out beside Brick Street Cafe. There is room on the other side to do a bit of a realignment of Vardy. Also, you would want to do it somehow so there isn't such a drop off after the railroad track.
  5. This is about the only time I wish Greenville was farther north. A narrowbody airliner would be ideal for a GSP to Europe flight. Take the proposed A321LR, it has a ~4000 nm range. That probably gets you to Scottland, and maybe London GSP to Munich would be great, but with a distance of just over 4000 nm, the west bound leg is going to be a challenge for any narrowbody in the near term.
  6. One issue to a park, per one of the project applications, this site still has the concrete slab from the auditorium. I'm sure you can improve on what's there, but not sure how.much greenery you can add.
  7. I was at Macs Speedshop last weekend. Looked like possibly some type of cleanup going on inside the old body shop. (Asbestos or mold)
  8. The Spinx at Pendleton and Academy appears to be open!
  9. That is good news. Perhaps they can also redo the street lights. I think maybe two out of the ten or so street lights on the bridge work.
  10. I rode by yesterday, and demolition is well underway already.
  11. Does anyone know where the rule mixed use on main rule is actually published? I've been trying to find it on the Cities website for a while now, and have had no luck.
  12. Who said anything about abandoning retail on main? There is a rule that main street developments have to have retail, it was recently implemented in direct response to this development. And 98 E. McBee isn't on main street, so I'm not sure how that is relevant.
  13. I've always thought that spot would be ideal for a townhome development, and thats exactly what they have proposed. The two homes in the back look like two too many for this lot, and better used as common space. But regardless, should be a nice improvement over the rundown office building that is there now.
  14. I agree that having the shopping center pulled forward to the road would be ideal. However I don't think you could work it out whole leaving the existing row of shops. The grocery store would take up all the parking for the shops. They probably would have to bulldoze the entire plaza to get the layout you are describing, and I don't think anyone has the appetite for that.
  15. To each his own. I believe the developer worked with the DRB on the railing design. A DRB meeting I was at several months ago they mentioned this project as a good example of urban railing design.
  16. Front page of the WSJ today, article about the Panama Canal expansion, combined with the on-going work at the Charleston Harbor plus the inland port has created a "construction frenzy" in the upstate. May be behind a paywall. http://www.wsj.com/articles/south-carolina-will-get-boost-from-expanded-panama-canal-1466674203
  17. Lot of positive things happening recently in The Village!
  18. First Friday for June! http://www.firstfridaysgreenville.com/
  19. The downtown Publix is so crowded I don't go there anymore. Downtown Greenville can easily support multiple grocery stores
  20. 400 Rhett is offering one month free rent, right after they jacked up their rates pricing more people out of the market. With the added apartment supply coming online, I hope we do see prices trend down somewhat. It would be a positive for Downtown
  21. At first I thought this was odd, but giving it some more thought I can see them doing a good business catering to business travelers. Speaking for myself, once I'm at the airport, the company is paying. I see myself eating here before a business flight. It's unfortunate that it has to be behind security, but that's just the environment we are in. You can't relax until you are past security, so it makes sense.

The price has literally gone up to 459 since this picture was posted. Better get in quick I guess??
  23. Yeah, I read those comments as well. Especially frustrating given the city actively advocated for the Greenville county sales tax last year to you know, fix the roads. However it was voted down by a wide margin. I doubt very few if any of the people griping supported that.
  24. To put a positive spin on this, perhaps the rise in rents on Main will encourage retail and development beyond Main Street. Greenville needs to be more than just one street, I think we're slowly moving in the direction.
