I know nothing of the inside scoop. Is there something in particular that is mismanaged? My only experience with the airport is as a passenger, and my experiences w the airport in that capacity are pretty good.

I agree with the criticisms of layout. Whenever I go through CLT it feels overcrowded and inefficient. I try to go on SWA whenever I can, but when I need a legacy carrier I pick Delta every time. Not only is their product better, but I think ATL is a much better designed airport than CLT. My two cents.

Wow that would be a big jump for SW right? Didn't we just bump up to 100 per day? So what would be the timeline to get to 140-150? And if we get there, where does that put us on the list of SW stations in terms of flights per day?

I like the fact that they say they are including a reworking of the school's frontage on 21st. For a school of Vandy's caliber, 21st is a missed opportunity at present.

It's interesting. I used to live in Montgomery, AL and in Birmingham. Nashville has far more going on now than Montgomery or Birmingham. But I have wondered since I moved here about Nashville's historic structures -- or lack thereof. For a city of our age, I have always thought that nashville was missing buildings in the core that were a link to past eras, or at least to the eras represented by these buildings. Montgomery is a river city or a similar age. Selma is too. So is Mobile . And they have more of the historic structures that give you a sense of their age than Nashville does. Don't interpret this as a knock on Nashville. I love this city and love living here. But I've been surprised we don't have more examples still around of the city that we used to be. Others do. -

I'm so glad to hear this. I love this building but have always thought the HVAC units stick out like a sore thumb and really detract. -
Wouldn't be London would it, given that American had a flight to London in the 90s?

I'm not usually overly critical, but I can't stand this design. I hope it turns out better than I think it will. -

Sometimes the statistics for Birmingham can be misleading if they focus on only the city itself. In contrast to us, they don't have metro government. They tried to adopt it in the early 70s and it came painfully close but didn't succeed. So now there are something like 30 different municipalities (and almost as many school systems) in Jefferson County. It would be like if Green Hills, Belle Meade, Donelson, Hermitage, and 20 other places were totally separate, independent cities. That political division has been a huge detriment. But in defense of Bham, there is actually lots going on. Downtown Bham has a great grid system and an awesome stock of historic structures that are gradually being rehabbed. Their minor league baseball park is a great design and the Railroad Park it sits next to is awesome. They have a downtown Publix, and UAB is a huge driver for employment and growth. There is a noticeable resurgence in the in town neighborhoods. There's no doubt that Nashville is way more dynamic than Bham, and Bham just wouldn't be in the same conversations about corporate relocations coming in that Nashville is. But, Bham is a cool town and a sleeper that I think could see a resurgence in years ahead. -
Ah. Still cool. So if this is put into effect, where will we be in the ranking of SW traffic? What other stations do they consider "Mega" stations?

Hmm. Of the international destinations SW is servicing, what would make sense to serve from Nashville? I know they're building international service out of Houston. Do they need another connecting point for traffic from the east? If so, would we be the logical place? Anyone have a ranking of SW cities by volume? We are closer than MDW and BWI. What other SW locations would make sense as connecting points for traffic to/from eastern us destinations. Tampa?

As a native Mobilian, love that you posted this! -
Been wondering that too. That stretch of Broadway is looking a little forlorn, with graffiti on the old Noshville location and the corner pub shut down. I know all that is because of investment by this group, Vandy, etc., but this limbo period is leaving that stretch looking rundown.

Midtown is well on its way. We aren't going to have the size and scale of ATL, but what we have over ATL imho is that our downtown is vibrant and a real draw almost 24/7. I think ATL has improved a ton in the last few years, but the historic downtown still feels a little deserted in the evenings.
