I must not have lived in Nashville yet when it was built. What was the intent? Why call it a “landport”?

Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal) at 9th and Broadway has commenced a capital campaign to raise funds for a substantial building project on their campus. A contract with EOA is being negotiated for design work. In the meantime, as was reported a couple on months back, the diocese has approved a contract for construction of a projected 24-story project on the lot the church owns on Commerce between 8th and 9th. The church will be guaranteed 75 parking spaces in the structure and a ground lease revenue stream for years to come that will be devoted to maintenance of the historic structure. The developer is to be HRI Properties, which did the Holston House. Construction expected to begin in 2020. -
Interesting. They could definitely build structured parking west of Natchez Trace. But they have tons of employees in the medical complex. They could maybe move parking to remote locations and run more shuttles.

Boy if they rebuild that block bounded by a Childrens Way, 24th, 25th, and Highland, that will make a tremendous difference. Question ... if they lose the 25th Ave garage, what is the plan to relocate all that parking?

Why all the above ground parking recently? I work in the SunTrust bldg and our parking is below ground. So why would Eakin have done that when ST was developed, if above ground is cheaper? Was he required to for the ST development for some reason? -
Does anyone know ... once the old short term deck is replaced with this new structure ... will the ground transportation move again? The current spot works, but it does seem that it would be better to put taxis, shuttles, and ride sharing cars directly outside the terminal.

So these renderings both look to me as if they reflect a reworking of the Church St viaduct to add bike lanes. I don’t think the width is there currently to add those, right? They would need to widen it?

I used to live in Birmingham. While I love how dynamic Nashville is, there are some things I miss about Bham. It has more going for it than most people assume. And while there is some truth in the NYT article, I think it was unfairly negative to Bham. It’s a great town.

I’ve taken the premium economy on several BA flights to LHR, from Chicago and direct from BNA. The premium economy makes a difference. In contrast to Delta, it’s a totally separate cabin. It’s got a decent amount of room and upgraded other services. I like it.

So I saw in another thread that sales were bad for 505. Was this a miss by the development team? Did they make bad assumptions in the floor plans they laid out?

I think Commerce has real potential and is going to change a ton over the next few years. Nashville Yards is talking about activating Commerce down at their end. A block up from that is the project that HRI will do on the Christ Church parking lot between 8th and 9th. Yes the new federal courthouse won’t add street activation, but at least it won’t be worse than the parking lot that was there. The Commerce side of 5th and Broad is going to add to the street. I’m also watching the two small parking lots at Commerce and 5th. I assume those will fill in at some point. All told, I think Commerce is going to evolve. -
Love it ... but I don’t get the orientation. That amount of West End Street frontage looks like a lot more than just the Jack in the Box lot. Is part of the current Graduate fenced demo area going to be for this?

Notice in the first pic that the gate is labeled T5 rather than D5. Maybe this pic is not from the D expansion and is instead one of the new IAB gates? Which further expansion would be more likely?

So I’ve heard several times that a flight to Iceland is imminent. I’m curious ... why is that? I’ve never been to Iceland and don’t understand why a flight there is significant. Is it a hot destination? Is it a sought after connecting point?

I had that happen at BNA and they said they were able to do it because they dogs out sniffing everyone.

And maybe also help land something like Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton? A Four Seasons at Second Avenue site would be walkable to an AB tower at Fifth and Broadway. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to be satisfied with a nonstop flight to London. Just booked a trip for August. Can’t wait to board the flight at BNA and then arrive at Heathrow with no change anywhere! -

So if they are a sub of AXA and AXA is based in France, maybe a possible Delta BNA to CDG route in the future?
